That's why i wished that Céline didn't turned down these songs

I Don't Want To Miss A Thing

There You'll Be

Unbreak My Heart

They would certainly be huge. Even though she didn't feel like promoting any more, which is understandable when you look at her efforts and promo in the late 90s especially with Titanic, she could have still recorded and released these songs but not appear anywhere and not promote, and I'm sure they would sell like crazy just because of these movies and her reputation. Remember when Ashes came out? She didn't promote the song at all when the movie came out. She only incorporated the song into her shows and that was it. She sang it only once on TV on Jimmy Kimmel, but then she used it to promote the upcoming Courage tour. But maybe back in the eraly 2000s such a strategy was out of the question and that's why she rejected everything. Edited by ryba

Wasn't Because You Loved Me offered to Toni Braxton as well, or is my memory of that wrong?

Anyway, I'm so happy Celine sang it instead of Toni if it was ever the case that those two songs might have been switched.

Yeah! I heard about it BYLM being offered to Toni

Was "Boundaries" offered to someone else initially?

Not sure about "offered" exactly, since I think songwriters and executives send the song to multiple people anyway. But the song was written by a very young singer songwriter, and at some point Katy Perry recorded a demo, and this was I think before Celine ever had heard the song.

I think it's one of my favourite Celine songs now by the way

But my favourite anecdote in this regard is how David Foster wrote Colour Of My Love and Barbra, Whitney, Celine and some others (maybe Linda Ronstadt too?) all wanted their hands on the song!

Then David gave it to Celine because of how she was so madly in love with Rene and was going to/just announced their love and were going to marry.

That's how we know Whitney heard of Celine at least by 1993.

I think she turned down for these reasons…

IDWTMAT - It was 1997, the year she was supposed to take a break. (Not sure if the song was offered to her in 1996, or early 1997 when she was gun ho and planning to take a hiatus). According to legend, she was bamboozled into doing MHWGO, which I’m assuming was offered to her after IDWTMAT.

There You’ll Be - 1999/2000. It was DEFINITE that she was taking a break. There was no talking her into anything at that point lol.

It was. Toni Braxton said it in an interview. She said they kind of "exchange" the songs, since Spanish Guitar went to Toni, and BYLM went to Celine.

Of those two, I'd much have preferred she sing IDWTMAT.

Do you know which interview?

I think Celine may never have done MHWGO if she didn't miss out on Dreams to Dream from that one other cartoon film earlier on in the 1990s. So fate worked out. James Horner remembered she was passed up in favour of Linda and returned to her for the Titanic project.

The album is released towards the end of the month.

I’ve been very lucky to have heard the song a few days ago.

It’s not very catchy and not very memorable as a Celine song for me, but I love the message in it.

For me it’s like “my love” but also “unfinished songs” in a way.

I feel that as a rule her one-off songs are not very exciting. I have low expectations for this song and for Play Me Like A Love Song. but I am happy she worked with Dianne again.

How’s her diction in this song? Are there high notes?

Sorry, but Diane songs are no longer what they used to be. Celine deserves to receive hit material. That’s what she should look for. Only hits and no mediocre songs.

I agree, they are not what they used to be in the 90's and earlier, but she's written at least one really good song in the later years. Paloma Faith's Only Love Can Hurt Like This. I love that song and I wish it was written for Celine.

I was invited to a listening party :)

Then you were lucky! So how was her overall voice?

How was her voice in that song? Any high belted notes? I really think it’s Unfinished Songs part 2 (movie version)

From the snippets we already know her pronounciation is AWFUL but i don’t care this time.. at least we are getting something new for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic

Maybe she was the singer, who rerecorded the song. I hope so.

I thought her pronunciation was much better than a lot of the songs on the courage album… I think Diane is great at what she does and may push celine more with this, but there were a few words that weren’t that clear but I think that was down to her doing her signature playing with her voice, if that makes sense which can make you think she is being lazy.

Someone else said they also thought it was like a new mid tempo update version of my love, but you could tell it was a Diane Warren song at the same time.

Not going to say it’s amazing but I may need a few more listens, ( I first heard that’s the way it is and I hated it at first and it’s now my favourite Celine song) but as I said the message of the song is lovely and suits Celine.

Can’t wait to hear what you all think and to hear it again myself :)

Is there any Celine signatures….long notes/ belts?

Tbh mid tempo songs can easily become more catchy…. Look at Taylor Swift’s last two albums. It took me a while to get into the slower vibe but now I love them.

As far as i remember Spanish guitar offered to Celine and refused it. Not Unbreak my heart.

And for the I dont wanna miss a thing offered, i think they said that back then it was still "active" the My heart will go on storm. That already delayed different project just as the release of Sil suffisait dáimer. I remember that both songs were nominated at the same category for some awards.

Plus they didnt want to do another movie song back to back.

I would love to listen to Superwoman daily. I also think it could be a hit if promoted well, I mean Diane Warren promos aren't bad..but who knows if she will promote Superwoman or not...I hope Team Celine post something regarding this song after its release.

She did “Beauty and the Beast” after The “Dreams to Dream” fiasco, which ended up being much better for her in the long run anyway.
