Celine on "Nurse Heroes Live!" benefit concert

lol sometimes I really think that you and some other fans here say stuff like this just because you want to provoke the others here. Honestly, even you cannot claim that you are happy with the current situation and that you don’t feel frustrated to some degree.

Being openly frustrated and having the high expectations that some of you have kind of cancels each other out. I was very frustrated with the lack of promo for the new album. I was also frustrated that her team didn’t take advantage of social media when everyone was locked up at home. But I’m certainly not going to expect anything and then be mad when my expectations don’t become reality. That’s ridiculous.

when you are frustrated with the lack of promo, it means that you expected or imagined more then what she gave you. Hence your frustration. Nothing ridiculous about it.

What is ridiculous, besides celine's and her team's lack of regard for her hardcore fans, is the incapability of some fans to respect fellow fans' opinions/feelings. This useless discussion will not happen if only some people here don't attempt to invalidate the reactions of those who feel disappointed in celine and her team. And, btw, our expectations of celine are not unreasonably high. We only wish she doesn't make it seem like she's lost her passion and artistry.

The hypocrisy in here is running loose.

People are all pretending that it's okay with have no content from Celine at all, no performance, no videos, no talk, no definition about a tour - BTW, a tour with only a couple of new songs, let's not forget about that - and poorly done participations on charity events.

But everyone gets extremely excited everytime something is about to happen, with expectations of her singing new songs, dropping a new video, a new single... Then, the expectations are frustrated, as always, everybody complains and it's all ok, until someone point it out that this is all Celine's own fault. That's when the blind fans start the attacks "she deserves, she works too much, her husband died, her mother died, go listen to Mariah and bla bla bla".

Everyone in here, as fan, would love to have more of Celine, more videos, more concert, more appearances, more performances, more singles... The difference is that some of us hold Celine responsable for the lack of care and dedication to her career, the other ones blame the universe or her team or whatever.

But we're all craving for more!

What you are saying is untrue. I for one do not crave more right now. I stood 2nd row in Hyde Park just over a year ago and saw a truly magnificent electrifying concert. I flew to Quebec City for opening night of the tour and then received an album from Céline with 21 new songs (22 including Wicked Game.) I then saw the CWT in Cincinnati, 3 nights at Barclays Center and one night in Newark. I’ve gotten my fill of Céline.

I don’t need or want a Lying Down music video. I don’t need or want a new single. I don’t need or want DVD’s or digital versions of her summer tours. My God, there are 225,912 different YouTube videos from every stop of every tour if I want to watch something.

So, no...not everyone here thinks of wants the same things. Painting in giant brush strokes like that as if everyone is exactly the same is a major problem in the world.

But she has said multiple times that she doesn’t need to perform. She does it because she likes it. Not to achieve success or win awards or sell millions of records.

That's not on Celine. That's on her management.

My bigger frustration comes from her team not utilizing social media during the months of complete lockdown. I didn't expect them to do much, but I can still be frustrated that the lack of care or work shows incompetence.

I have no high expectations from Celine or her team anymore. Not since 2002 when they chose to release GTSW over SFL or WTWOLYR, or in 2003 when they let "Reveal" sit by the wayside. Once 2013 rolled around (Note: while René was still managing her career) and they had absolutely no handle on what her album was going to be (as evidenced On Katie Couric) by their less than enthusiastic and nonsensical answers to why they had originally named the album "Water and a Flame," was the last straw for me. It was time to just sit back and enjoy what Celine was willing to give us. Which later turned into surprising us with not one, not 2 but 3 summer mini tours, where she pulled some gems out of her back pocket to perform. So, I felt a nice rush from that. And then we got a beautiful album to enjoy in 2019. I'm content with that. Because I realize that she could have had René Charles, never signed a Vegas contract, and just retired altogether to have more babies. Celine truly could have done that, and if it weren't for the advanced stages of "A New Day..." I think she would have. Or at least stayed away for a very long time, and we would not have gotten anywhere near what we have in the last 18 years.

2002: ANDHC era was incredible. It was fresh, it was fun and the promo was incredible.

2003:

"A New Day..."

- One of the most ambitious shows and contract of any musical artist in the history of show business

- One of the most beautiful pieces of live performance we have ever seen

- "One Heart" an album she absolutely did not have to put out. She could have just put out IDAN as a single for Chrysler and that be it. We got an entire collection of new songs just a year after her big return to the business.

- "1f4t" Probably one of her best French albums ever. Also, the second album of 2003 she released for us. Third album within a year and a half.

2004:

- AND...LILV - Not her best live vocal, but we still got two great new studio tracks, and it's the only official recording we have of the show before it's overhaul in 2005-06. Released even though she didn't really care for it.

- "Miracle" while not everyone's taste, it was a different project for her to embark on. Which she felt passionate about and did some decent promo for. ISSW on "The Tonight Show" may be one of her most stunning promo performances she's ever done. Released while she was in the middle of her first Vegas run.

2005:

- ONCP: Her first French Greatest Hits compilation. An astounding look and listen at her French career. Perfection

2007:

- "Delles" I would say next to 1f4t, her most ambitious French album. Even Celine was sad that it didn't get the attention it deserved. But she did some fab promotion for it.

- "Taking Chances" Fantastic album. Very good promo blitz, an extensive look at the recording process, and a fun Ultimate Box deluxe version for those of us who like to collect!

- "A New Day..." This DVD collection is probably my favorite. The amount of extra footage we got on that release really outdid itself.

2008:

- TCWT: Just wow. The amount of dates she played was insanity. Amazing concert.

2010:

- TCWT CD/DVD - We have one of the biggest tours in history on record for our collections.

- TTEOTW: All I'm going to say about this is that if you don't think she has been open enough after this, FOLLOWING the content released on the "A New Day..." dvd, I just don't know what to tell you.

2011:

- Return to Vegas. Whether you liked the show, or not...she still killed it out there. Giving us another opportunity to see her perform after a huge world tour and having twins.

2012:

- "Sans Attendre" - We got some really great content from this era.

2013:

- LMBTL: It's not everyone's favorite album, but we still got it. The promo was actually revving up well for this album and then René fell sick again. She pushed through the rest of the schedule promo.

- SA tour. Did she even have to do this?

2016:

- "Encore Un Soir" while she didn't sing any songs in the US, she still pushed this French album in her appearances. She hadn't mentioned new French work in the US since 1995 at that point.

2019:

- "Courage" Long awaited, well worth the wait. She put her all into this album. She carefully picked songs and what we got is her best English work since "Falling Into You." The promo left a lot to be desired, as discussed. But I am so happy to have this album to listen to. It's exquisite.

- CWT one of the highest grossing tours of the year. While it was definitely a greatest hits tour, she performed amazingly.

- Hyde Park Concert

Honorable Mentions:

2007: TAST Collector's Edition

2008: Quebec's 400th Anniverary/Sur Les Plaines/My Love: Essential Collection

2011: Central Park with Andrea Bocelli, where we now have on video the most stunning rendition of "The Prayer."

2012: Jamaica Jazz Festival

2013: Pandora Presents at The Edison Ballroom. That was a total surprise out of left field.

2014: Une seul fois

2016: "Recovering" and "How Does A Moment Last Forever"

2018: "Ashes"

2019: Spotify - "Imperfections" and "Wicked Game"

If anyone can look at this list from the last 18 years, and say that an artist with almost 40 years in the business isn't giving enough, then I'm sad to say that you will never EVER be pleased. It is your decision to not accept the natural progression of one's career, nor accept that she performs now because she likes to. It's also your choice to set expectations so high, even after feeling let down multiple times prior. That is all on your own prerogative. You can't lay that on Celine. Frustration and kind of a WTF is going on here train of thought makes sense. But to set a bar so high in your mind, knowing it won't be achieved, and then being so irrationally mad when it's not...is just ludicrous and unhealthy.

but you’re missing the point. I’m talking about things like having tons of footage in the vault, but being unwilling to give a proper documentary for courage, or the tour to the fans, or extended footage of the recording sessions etc. Things that can be done without Celine being involved at all to satisfy her loyal fans that admire her for her voice and music, not her clothes. It has zero to do with being 50 or career progression.

I’ve been saying it has to do with her management and team this entire time. This was also not just a response for you, but also for everyone else who says that “Celine” doesn’t do enough. Any vault material or unreleased this or that has everything to do with Sony/BMG and their marketing people.

I agree with you that Céline has given us more than enough throughout her entire career. Up to the release of the album ‘Courage’ it was going very well (great promo with Carpool Karaoke, Kimmel, FOMO, BST, three singles, 2 music videos and exceptional promo for the tour) and then it all just fell apart. The album promo was disappointing and so is Céline’s exposure during this whole pandemic. It does however help to look at all the positive things that have happened and continue to happen.

That’s not on Celine. That’s on her management.

Since Celine is part of her own management now that makes her also partially responsible. She's been in this business long enough to know the importance of performing new songs on television or during concerts. And if she didn't think of singing or wanted to sing during these interviews the least that could have been done is include playback of her new songs. If she doesn't think of these things because she is busy with other stuff then it falls on her team.

At this point we all agree that her team leaves a lot to be desired, in many aspects. I think where most fans on this site and elsewhere start to disagree is on the level of blame that falls on Celine herself.

I agree with you on everything else you posted. We get lost in the day to day and lose sight of the big picture, of what she has given and done throughout the years. And regardless of what some may say I think many fans don't want to accept that Celine is no longer trying to have a huge career or to be everywhere (if she did Aldo would probably still be here). She's said so many times she's doing this for fun & love of singing, and what's fun for her is doing large concerts and pleasing as many fans as possible. That means mainly singing the hits unfortunately. She wants to record new songs, and seeing what she did with Courage it shows that she put thought and care into that. She's not interested in doing promo, she really doesn't like that.

She doesn't like going on break and still have to work so now that this pandemic hit us I think she's taking the opportunity to be on a serious break. She doesn't need to make an announcement for this. She doesn't need to make announcements anytime she's in between projects.

And to bring this back on topic, I think the disappointment of her only being in this concert so little is being blown out of proportion. I think she's been involved in every single covid-19 benefit concert that has been put together, I don't know that any other artist has. While she may not have done a solo performance she gave great vocals in two out three of these.

If she was singing just for fun like she is saying, she wouln’t be singing the same setlist from the 90’ again and again and again to please the largest number of persons. She is still singing because of the MONEY.

Thats why she doesnt care about the die hard fans. Easy money without much effort with the greatest hits tour.

Believe it or not but since René’s death, she is way more distant from her fans.

And those saying give her a break shes doing so much shows with vegas and the tours : hey nobody asked for 1000+ shows with the same setlist. She wants it for money!

I’ll be way more happy with a new album every 2-3 years and mini tours of 20-30 dates per year or 2 years in smaller venues with a nice setlist for the die hard fans. See? She can work way less and it would give us way more and THAT would be really singing for fun and not for the huge sales.

She made her choice so stop acting like she is a martyr.

I'm just GRATEFUL she's still in the business at all and has been giving us music for most of her life. She can retire now and I'll be CONTENTED. Now if you remain UNGRATEFUL and DISCONTENTED after all these years, then that's on you, not Celine. Edited by marc-02

I really think there should be a 'Fan' in her surrounding and marketing team. When you really love someone , like René did , you want that person to be successful , to shine and there is nothing right now to magnify Celine . She doesn't have to do anything , just put some money in concepts and invest in modern visuals to appeal to her music . I refuse to give up on hope because Celine is the only idol I will ever have and I know one day I will be proud again . Until then , I can't wait for this f.king pandemic to be over , everything sucks on all levels

The majority of artists sing their biggest hits. And as I said, she tries to please the majority of her fans and that, unfortunately, isn't her hardcore base. At least not the ones that spend their days commenting about her every move. I've come to that realization the hard way (no pun intended). But many of her super fans are happy to go see the same show/setlist dozens of times because what matters most to them is hearing and seeing her in person.

Ofc she tours for the money, show me an artist that doesn't. It's her job, it just happens that her job is something she enjoys doing. Even a small tour would still cost a lot of money to create, especially for an artist of her caliber.

People that bring up money as a negative act like it's a crime to make money off of your job.

How is she more distant from her fans? I wasn't a fan during the Rene era, so maybe I'm missing something. All I've seen is that she used to have meet and greets but now these m&g have become more select, likely because of things she maybe didn't like or who knows. She is still signing for fans that wait outside her hotel & arena. While we all wish to have a Celine that is super active on social media that is not something she likes, and it's normal that after years of constant cameras in her face she'd want more privacy.

Sure, that sounds great but get this...that's not what she wants to do. Why get angry and fume over every little thing she doesn't do and instead just accept that what we get is what she wants to do. I'm not making her a martyr I just realize and accept that she doesn't want to do things like you say, she has her reasons. Maybe one day we will get that unknown tour. I love that she tours a lot, if she didn't I wouldn't have had the chance to see her as much as I have, and other's wouldn't have had the opportunity either. I love that she talks and jokes a lot in her shows, I love that she brought her love of fashion and dance into CWT, and that she finally was able to do that underwater scene she had been asking to do for 10 years. I would also be happy if she did more select and diverse shows but it is what it is. And besides, not all fans are happy with the same things.

Some fans prefer she retire then get what we get now but I'd much prefer this than not hearing or seeing her for who knows how long.

I think the latest downer that was that joke of a appearance on Thursday was just the the breaking point for a lot of fans.it wasn’t the cause just the latest example. Fans just feel like nothing more than the cow they keep milking for money. The concerts, the boutique, the albums... which is all fine and dandy that’s every fans choice but when we do all that sometimes people would like a little bit more, some free love from Celine on social media, more appearances and behind the scene moments. Instead once in a while they post a picture of Celine dressed like she’s going to a ball to pose in random nature.

One clear example is how they used to give us these DVDs or TV specials with plenty of behind the scenes footage. Both Céline and René acknowledged that fans were curious about what went on in their daily lives and how projects came to be and wanted to give us a “VIP pass”. They haven’t given us anything of that sort since 2016 even though there would have been a lot of important moments in Céline’s career (end of Vegas, Courage album, Courage tour planning) for them to document. Clearly she is more distant from her fans now.

Thats why she doesnt care about the die hard fans. Easy money without much effort with the greatest hits tour.

Believe it or not but since René's death, she is way more distant from her fans.

And those saying give her a break shes doing so much shows with vegas and the tours : hey nobody asked for 1000+ shows with the same setlist. She wants it for money!

I'll be way more happy with a new album every 2-3 years and mini tours of 20-30 dates per year or 2 years in smaller venues with a nice setlist for the die hard fans. See? She can work way less and it would give us way more and THAT would be really singing for fun and not for the huge sales.

She made her choice so stop acting like she is a martyr.

Very good point!

I'm just GRATEFUL she's still in the business at all and has been giving us music for most of her life. She can retire now and I'll be CONTENTED. Now if you remain UNGRATEFUL and DISCONTENTED after all these years, then that's on you, not Celine.

Well that’s one way of looking at it...

Céline some of your fans are throwing tantrums. Give them some milk please

:sofunny:

I think her team will make it up for it. Just be patient. Also, don’t compare her to Mariah since Mariah doesn’t do a lot of shows compared to Céline. If you forgot :)

All this is true but oddly enough she was MOST engaged with the fans (at least in the show aspect)the few months before Rene passed and right after he passed. At that time she would walk the audience to take selfies, offered endless speeches to the audience before the medley section of the show, and she always stopped her car to greet the fans when leaving the venue to go home. And then after the crazy lady who humped Celine pulled her stunt they removed the staircase and bam ever since.

Once she fired Aldo, she’s been disconnected from the fans.... at this point is just it was it is. It’s evident that her career is no longer her passion. I feel as if I see enjoyment but not passion, nowadays her passion seems to be fashion, dance and other things.

I don’t blame her if she feels stale with the music, probably because for about 20 years overall she has sung the same exact setlist, I’d be bored too but at the same time it’s HER FAULT, It’s her fault that she doesn’t give her fans/ audience enough credit for them knowing the “album filler” songs because most do and welcome them. It’s her fault.

I’m not a fan of Mariah but even tho she gives less shows, she gives her fans more overall. In a show she could reach thousands of fans nightly where her Social media posts personally uploaded by her reach millions each and everyday. Celine’s reaches millions of fans as well, I’m sure it’s very exciting for all them to dig their teeth into round 414 of “Courage Trivia” :sofunny:

Yup! Less show but more on social media. And for sure Christmas season helps a lot. Thanks to AIWFCIY. If it’s Christmas don’t question yourself why because it’s her season. No need for comparison for this season if she’s more busy than Céline

The die hard fans who needed a break. Using the same setlist (hits) for tours is understandable because not all massive fans are watching Céline live. And I disagree that she didn’t change the setlist. That’s The Way It Is, Think Twice, The Reason and many more were included in he tours. So, where’s the same setlist there? LOL

But she really needs a manager managing her career and hire creative teams and Céline just focusing on singing which is better than more stress.

Even just clips like this would be nice. They don’t necessarily tell us anything new but it shows that Céline cares and keeps in touch with her fans.

lol sometimes I really think that you and some other fans here say stuff like this just because you want to provoke the others here. Honestly, even you cannot claim that you are happy with the current situation and that you don’t feel frustrated to some degree.

LOL of course I do it on purpose! NOT! :giggle:

Look, I have no expectation anymore from Celine because I've followed her from the very beginning and saw how hard she has worked to rise to fame. At this point, I just find it somewhat normal that she might have less passion towards her music career. I had one job for about 15 years and I couldn't handle it anymore even if it was my passion. So I can relate to Celine and that's one of the reasons why I won't throw her under the bus for not always pleasing us. Because I get it. And I saw her in concert about 20 times and met her twice. Too bad you were born too late... :giggle:

And I will say this (and I have no idea if I'm correct or not)... But I feel that Celine is going through something. Is it depression, anxiety or just thinking about what she wants to do with the rest of her life? I don't really know, but something is brewing in my opinion. Time will tell but I wish her the best because she has given us so much (and I hope even her critics do recognize that). Now she seems to need time away so I'm happy with whatever she is happy to give us. It's her life, not mine or yours.

I remember watching A New Day... A tribute to fans where she’s having a meet and greet with fans before the show. And there is this one fan who have seen the show for at least 81-83 times and

Céline said “You know there are other shows in Las Vegas not just me” lol

So, for now while Céline is still busy with her acting for her upcoming movie. Let’s listen to other singers for now. Explore so you’re not too focus to be disappointed in waiting for something with Céline since she’s taking one step at a time. Acting for now.

Let’s do that

As much as I love her, its more than obvious she has the wrong people around her from a business perspective.

If this team does not change or get a few new members with experience in the business and more importantly a manager, I’d be more than happy to see her retire and do what she loves... acting, attending fashion shows or spend all her time with her family because her musical career from a die hard perspective is dying on its feet.

Ugh. Now “martyr” is going to be the new word in the forum. But, I digress.

The reason why the tour setlist is the way it is, is for the masses of people who are A. casual fans, and B. because she hasn’t toured since 2009, and more people didn’t get to go to Vegas than those who did. Yes, she loves to perform, but the concert promoters and ticket sellers also need to make money. So, of course part of touring is largely about money. Attracting the majority of propel who are casual fans and need the hits is going to be of the utmost priority to sell out these big arenas. Yes, there are plenty of spots for a couple more songs from “Courage,” but how many times are we going to circle this setlist argument over a year later? What’s done, is done and complaining ad nauseam is not going to change that.

I also don’t think these types of things will sell well enough to make a good enough return on the production that goes into it. From 2007-2010, there was still a much bigger interest in Celine than there is now. She hadn’t toured since 1999 at that point, she was coming out with her first Post-Vegas album and marketing a fresher sound for herself; in addition to showing the public a much more laid back side of herself, rather than the prim and proper Celine we were used to in the 90’s. The market for 3 hours of extras on the AND DVD was there. I don’t think something like that for Celine would sell as well as it did in 2007. Even with a ridiculous promotional blitz for “Courage,” I think their best bet was the tour to garner interest. The album is amazing for sure, but with so many ways to get music for free these days, the album was not their selling point. It absolutely could have been pushed more, and the promo should have been a bit heavier. But I still don’t think it would have made much of a difference.
