PuraVida Posted November 29, 2020 at 04:54 PM Posted November 29, 2020 at 04:54 PM Ugh. Now "martyr" is going to be the new word in the forum. But, I digress. The reason why the tour setlist is the way it is, is for the masses of people who are A. casual fans, and B. because she hasn't toured since 2009, and more people didn't get to go to Vegas than those who did. Yes, she loves to perform, but the concert promoters and ticket sellers also need to make money. So, of course part of touring is largely about money. Attracting the majority of propel who are casual fans and need the hits is going to be of the utmost priority to sell out these big arenas. Yes, there are plenty of spots for a couple more songs from "Courage," but how many times are we going to circle this setlist argument over a year later? What's done, is done and complaining ad nauseam is not going to change that. I wonder if her contract detailled how many new songs she could introduce to her setlist. Quote
PuraVida Posted November 29, 2020 at 04:57 PM Posted November 29, 2020 at 04:57 PM I also don't think these types of things will sell well enough to make a good enough return on the production that goes into it. From 2007-2010, there was still a much bigger interest in Celine than there is now. She hadn't toured since 1999 at that point, she was coming out with her first Post-Vegas album and marketing a fresher sound for herself; in addition to showing the public a much more laid back side of herself, rather than the prim and proper Celine we were used to in the 90's. The market for 3 hours of extras on the AND DVD was there. I don't think something like that for Celine would sell as well as it did in 2007. Even with a ridiculous promotional blitz for "Courage," I think their best bet was the tour to garner interest. The album is amazing for sure, but with so many ways to get music for free these days, the album was not their selling point. It absolutely could have been pushed more, and the promo should have been a bit heavier. But I still don't think it would have made much of a difference. I think a Netflix special, behind-the-scenes and/or concert based would have done wonders. Probably moreso if she has released Courage a bit sooner to take full advantage of the Celine renaissance. 2017-2018 would have been amazing for it. 1 Quote
CelinesDIVO5 Posted November 29, 2020 at 04:57 PM Posted November 29, 2020 at 04:57 PM All this is true but oddly enough she was MOST engaged with the fans (at least in the show aspect)the few months before Rene passed and right after he passed. At that time she would walk the audience to take selfies, offered endless speeches to the audience before the medley section of the show, and she always stopped her car to greet the fans when leaving the venue to go home. And then after the crazy lady who humped Celine pulled her stunt they removed the staircase and bam ever since. Once she fired Aldo, she’s been disconnected from the fans.... at this point is just it was it is. It’s evident that her career is no longer her passion. I feel as if I see enjoyment but not passion, nowadays her passion seems to be fashion, dance and other things.I don’t blame her if she feels stale with the music, probably because for about 20 years overall she has sung the same exact setlist, I’d be bored too but at the same time it’s HER FAULT, It’s her fault that she doesn’t give her fans/ audience enough credit for them knowing the “album filler” songs because most do and welcome them. It’s her fault. I beg to differ on Celine’s disconnect from the fans. I saw her in Birmingham in 2017 (after Aldo was fired). She happened to be staying in my hotel. I got to meet her. There were about 40-50 people in the lobby, and she took the time to say quick hellos and take photos with every single person. Whether it be solo shots, or group photos; she still made sure that every person got into a photo with her. Then she went outside and spent another 35-40 minutes signing autographs and taking photos. All while already being late to get to the venue. I’m sorry, but I cannot agree that she has a disconnect with the fans. 7 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay

CelinesDIVO5 Posted November 29, 2020 at 05:03 PM Posted November 29, 2020 at 05:03 PM LOL of course I do it on purpose! NOT! Look, I have no expectation anymore from Celine because I've followed her from the very beginning and saw how hard she has worked to rise to fame. At this point, I just find it somewhat normal that she might have less passion towards her music career. I had one job for about 15 years and I couldn't handle it anymore even if it was my passion. So I can relate to Celine and that's one of the reasons why I won't throw her under the bus for not always pleasing us. Because I get it. And I saw her in concert about 20 times and met her twice. Too bad you were born too late... And I will say this (and I have no idea if I'm correct or not)... But I feel that Celine is going through something. Is it depression, anxiety or just thinking about what she wants to do with the rest of her life? I don't really know, but something is brewing in my opinion. Time will tell but I wish her the best because she has given us so much (and I hope even her critics do recognize that). Now she seems to need time away so I'm happy with whatever she is happy to give us. It's her life, not mine or yours. I too agree that Celine is doing some reflection on life. People keep saying that she has to move on from her grief...but she never actually had an adequate amount of time to even think about her grief. She was back on stage just weeks after René and her brother’s death. She was on stage less than 24 hours after her mom passed away. Maybe that’s her way of dealing with grief. Maybe not. We will never know. Maybe all of this is hitting her at once as we have been home for the past 8 months? On another note, I’m just sick of the suggestions that she should be keeping up with people who are still in the prime of their career. Celine already did everything that some of these fans are suggesting she do now. 7 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay
CelinesDIVO5 Posted November 29, 2020 at 05:17 PM Posted November 29, 2020 at 05:17 PM (edited) Since Celine is part of her own management now that makes her also partially responsible. She's been in this business long enough to know the importance of performing new songs on television or during concerts. And if she didn't think of singing or wanted to sing during these interviews the least that could have been done is include playback of her new songs. If she doesn't think of these things because she is busy with other stuff then it falls on her team. At this point we all agree that her team leaves a lot to be desired, in many aspects. I think where most fans on this site and elsewhere start to disagree is on the level of blame that falls on Celine herself. I agree with you on everything else you posted. We get lost in the day to day and lose sight of the big picture, of what she has given and done throughout the years. And regardless of what some may say I think many fans don't want to accept that Celine is no longer trying to have a huge career or to be everywhere (if she did Aldo would probably still be here). She's said so many times she's doing this for fun & love of singing, and what's fun for her is doing large concerts and pleasing as many fans as possible. That means mainly singing the hits unfortunately. She wants to record new songs, and seeing what she did with Courage it shows that she put thought and care into that. She's not interested in doing promo, she really doesn't like that. She doesn't like going on break and still have to work so now that this pandemic hit us I think she's taking the opportunity to be on a serious break. She doesn't need to make an announcement for this. She doesn't need to make announcements anytime she's in between projects. And to bring this back on topic, I think the disappointment of her only being in this concert so little is being blown out of proportion. I think she's been involved in every single covid-19 benefit concert that has been put together, I don't know that any other artist has. While she may not have done a solo performance she gave great vocals in two out three of these. I think people are putting too much merit on Celine as someone who is self managing. I think she makes decisions, for sure. But her actual management should be much more assertive than they are. And much more insistent. Celine may have the final say on most things that she wants to do, but to have managers that don’t put her in check on certain things...that’s not healthy for a career. Her fans are used to get that from her and still crave it. There is definitely demand. Quote
ryba Posted November 29, 2020 at 06:45 PM Posted November 29, 2020 at 06:45 PM (edited) What you are saying is untrue. I for one do not crave more right now. I stood 2nd row in Hyde Park just over a year ago and saw a truly magnificent electrifying concert. I flew to Quebec City for opening night of the tour and then received an album from Céline with 21 new songs (22 including Wicked Game.) I then saw the CWT in Cincinnati, 3 nights at Barclays Center and one night in Newark. I've gotten my fill of Céline. I don't need or want a Lying Down music video. I don't need or want a new single. I don't need or want DVD's or digital versions of her summer tours. My God, there are 225,912 different YouTube videos from every stop of every tour if I want to watch something. So, no...not everyone here thinks of wants the same things. Painting in giant brush strokes like that as if everyone is exactly the same is a major problem in the world.you should take into consideration that not every fan in the world is as fortunate as you are and can afford or even has the opportunity to attend so many concerts to get their fill of Celine. Therefore some behind the scenes material or a concert on DVD would be highly appreciated. Edited November 29, 2020 at 06:46 PM by ryba 7 Quote

Have you taken into consideration that Céline has made herself available a lot over the past decade? Just because some people don’t have the ability to go see her live isn’t her fault. She’s been working her tail off. Whoever is in charge of releasing things would release them if they thought they’d make money off of them. Obviously they don’t. Céline doesn’t owe it to you to send a message on YouTube to let you know how she’s doing. Or sing a concert from her home. If she doesn’t want to do that, that’s the way it is. 1 Quote
Céline RO Posted November 29, 2020 at 08:31 PM Posted November 29, 2020 at 08:31 PM Rene was a notoriously big spender. As well as a gambler. Now that he's no longer in charge, that may not be the case anymore. They invested a huge amount in making the Courage World Tour a great show with amazing stage and visuals. They didn’t have to do it and it probably didn’t have any impact on sales. They could’ve easily created a simple, much cheaper show and people would’ve still bought the tickets (we didn’t even know what the show would be like when tickets went on sale). Céline also spends ridiculous amounts on fashion and other belongings. It makes her happy and her accountants don’t seem to have a problem with it either. They’re all clearly big spenders or love to take advantage of the enormous sums of money they have at their disposal in order to make their dreams come to fruition. I’m all for that but I wish they would make it more interesting for us too (don’t get me wrong, I’m very grateful for the amazing tour but, still). 3 Quote The best is yet to come...
