Then came Madonna in 2005 with Confessions On A Dancefloor, same concept. Both albums found massive success and are some of the most celebrated both among fans and critic reviews for both artists.

 

Shouldn't Céline learn for once and take some example of what audiences like all over the world and what concept of album is generally likely to find success everywhere?

Agree. As much as I’m happy with Celine doing FOMO, out of her comfort zone, I strongly dislike the generic EDM sound. I find it dated and predictable. I understand its purpose for the clubs but still... soulless.

IMO for a dance album she would have to find someone like Pepe who would revolutionize her sound, make it unique for her. Why produce something that’s been done thousand times?. They could do EP first. Maybe 4 or 5 songs like a set a la Confessions on the dance floor. That would be epic!

Confessions on Dancefloor was indeed the last hugely successful album from Madonna but Gloria! (which I kind of like) was far from being a resounding success besides Spain

 

For me the success of Confessions on Dancefloor was more due to the fact that Madonna was going back to her safe zone, to her roots and what she was known for: danceable fun tracks (a dramatic change from her heavy and controversial American Life album).

 

If we apply this recipe to Céline, it would mean she should release a ballads album, à la FIY or LTAL.

Am I the only one who thinks the Celine, as an artist, should do whatever she wants? I mean, music is expression. Is supposed to say what's in the artist's heart. Her truth. What she wants to say and how she wanna say.

She has been singing and performing other persons songs and other style since well the very beginning of her carreer 😉

She thinks that if she will sing songs by the "hottest" artists out there, it will take her music high again on charts.

This is the big awfull mistake. It's the wrost thing by far wanting to be a clon of Sia or what ever her name is. I can only think of "OOR" the majority of public doesn't even know who wrote this song, but this song is timeless until today! Because it has Soul, the magic of Celine Dion happens when she is giving her heart and soul into the songs and I'm so sure that can't happen with the low quailty "popular" artists of today who are writing her songs. I dearly hope to meet an inspriation and Soul songs on the New Album. Her Pop songs can also be sound amazing, all depent if it has Soul inside of them or not.

a) Our girl is not the wisest girl around when it comes to her career decisions. This includes picking songs, choosing marketing strategies, creating songlists and picking outfits. At least she is guilty for the failures of her team.

c) She is not extremely worried about the impact of her physical appereance in her career. Even with this fashion thing I think she does it only because she enjoys it a lot.

d) She likes to keep the things simple, no complication at all; no over production (like Mariah, JLo, Taylor or Madonna who carefully manage all of their moves in the bussiness). Which I understand since she has been working since the age of 5.

 

Even though, I still love her. And I really think that she is the only 90's diva who could get back to the top of charts; but making the right decisions. And I if had to express all the good things I find in her then this post would never end.

 

Why would you assume she is not wise picking songs? Couldn't it be that songwriters don't send her good songs? I'm pretty sure the try to do the best they can from the songs they get but probably they don't receive the best songs in English. A songwriter and producer wants his/her song to be successful and they know the chances of this happening with a veteran artist like Celine are very slim. So Celine's door is probably one of the last ones to be knocked. IMO Ashes is a very good song and very current, but it only went to Celine because of Ryan Reynolds. The song did his purpose, and it was a "big" success for Celine and helped to promote the movie, but it didn't have any impact in the charts. That same song in Ariana or Taylor hands with a blockbuster movie would have gone #1. We can't explain Celine's career now without putting it in context, what's the point comparing to albums released 10-20 years ago? Everything is changing so fast and streaming is taking over. Madonna latest album, despite being so "current" and trying so hard, is out of Billboard 200 in its third week! She was still 23 in physical albums, so just imagine how important streaming is now for charts.

 

In French it's different, French market is less ageist and she is a kind of god, so she still receives very good songs in French, so I'm sure they have much less issues recording a French album, they surely have many good song to pick. BUT I also think this new English album will be different, I think we are getting quality and good songs because in the last two-three years she has gained popularity and praise all around the world, and that's probably why she has received so many songs. She is kind of hot again and hence more songwriters and producers want to work with her, so my expectations are high.

Breathe in... out... relax... and enjoy... it' just Celine Dion, a 90's divas enjoying a legendary status with a huuuuge fanbase that make her multi-millionaire and still producing music and releasing without the stress of being the number one...Think she could have dissapeared (Lisa Stanfield), fooling herself (mariah carey), Desperately trying to be the rebel she isn't anymore (madonna) or death (Whitney Houston)... So here she is, playing to be an extravagant fashion icon and giving us new music... Hardly she is going to be a number 1 again, not just for the quality of the song, simply because the market is focused in the fresh blood. And maybe yess. she has a success... but it will come just as a surprise funny fact... (probably as Ashes and the Deadpool joke)

 

Don't burn the house cause this Guetta thing is a ballad... it's a Sia thing, and it looks really interesting, and maybe Guetta was experimenting and probably he will be asked to make a remix as he is one of the producers of the song...

I think it's unfair to expect Celine to have the same results from the 90's today because no matter how much she evolves or keeps up with modern music she's just not US audiences priority. American audiences are very ageist, especially with female performers (although I think things are getting a little better). All things considered she's doing so well.

She's close to 40 years into her career and she's still here and still a strong presence in the music industry. Her music hasn't stayed stuck in the 90's or trying too hard to be modern. She and her team might be late with certain trends but she evolves with the times, she tries new things, and I think that is great. You can listen to her albums and (love them or hate them) you can hear the difference with each one.

 

If she isn't getting great English material (which I don't think is the case) then I hope she soon takes steps into writing her own English music, or being involved. Since she loves Sia, it be great to have a song co-written by the two. She could co-write with songwriters she trusts the most.

 

I feel confident in this album because I think it's had more planning than LMBTL (which I love but I know isn't a favorite on here).

She took risks in the 90's from unfamiliar writers, but the quailty of the songs back then were behind words can describe! Amazing lyric and melodies.

I love the last song Sia wrote to her, but that's all, this new song doesn't feel special, it's more like leftovers. I wish the rest of the Album won't sound like Sia materials.

I feel that her two last albums weren't made with much dedication as for the quailty of the songs.

I think she records some songs because she actually likes them (Sia and Adele's people.... though WAAF is quite far from the greatness of Adele to me). And then they fill up the albums with songs that were "good enough". But those in charge there clearly are a bit old in the game coz it's like someone out of touch with what's trendy identifying something as trendy, and misses the mark.

 

I'm quite sick of these rushed, good enough tracks. Dig into some quality and if they're not there pick some covers (don't shoot). Look at how wonderful her Aretha performance was. She's superb on old school songs. But not even there has she managed to deliver quality lately. There must be a change in her producers. NMQP and HDYKTMP, TSMGO are superb examples of something that really couldn't go wrong (Céline vocals on a HIGH quality song) but still did. The only good studio cover since the ANDHC-era is AS (and maybe Alone).

 

So yea... it would be great if she got rid of the people who goes for "good enough" instead of really high quality, and replace them with people who doesn't settle for good but heads towards great. Coz that's what her talent and vocals deserve.

I think Celine is aware of the way the music scene works when it comes to newer artists coming in and dominating the charts while artists who were there prior to them advance to a new stage in their careers. Celine Dion is not chasing a hit.

TSMGO was just a disgrace, the worst possible outcome. When the single was announced, i was expecting Scotts marvellous arrangement with some polished vocals. Instead we got a mess. It sounded like they had brung her in after Renes funeral, had her smoke a carton of cigarettes and then sing the song... it was just awful. Its very rare in Celine territory that her live arrangements and vocals completely outclass the studio, but thats an exception

Exactly, not to mention that the song itself is being heard as it is in the car, its not a direct studio rip, hence why none of the songs except what we heard of FOMO in the Tour announcement video could be judged, theyve all been recorded in bad audio conditions or sung over... please people, wait until the song comes out before you judge what could either be a masterpiece or horrid, we wont know until it comes out

Sometimes its like she hires young and hip producers to produce ballads and boring tracks which results in messes like NMQP, and sometimes she brings in Old and Ballad-based Producers to produce uptempod and “fresh” tracks ala Water and A Flame, which IMO was superior live

Who says she isn't looking for good lyrics? She chooses the songs she likes. If you happen to not like a certain choice but you like another then that just means you have different taste in music. I'm seeing people say she should have recorded "Spanish Guitar" and Heaven-whatever by Gloria Stephan and I'm sitting here cringing and thankful she didn't. I think those are terrible songs but several here like them. Same happens with FOMO and Ashes, some love it, some just like it, and other don't care for it.

 

You long for the music quality of the 90's but she had some really boring af songs back then as well as great songs. It's the same now and always will be, not just for Celine but for all artists.

 

I think this Sia/Guetta song sounds promising, but then we've heard very little of it. Less than what we heard of FOMO.

Don't forget that it's not Céline (only) that chooses the songs.... it's basically the job of an exec producer to do that.

Especially with René not present anymore. Don't know how their (Céline & Sony) relationship currently is, but her label and exec producer has a big say in an album's direction.
