I'm glad that she finally addressed Mariah's (indirect) criticism about her about "disrespecting" Aretha during Divas.

 

Me too! Certainly an interesting point in the “saga” of that moment that had lasted until today.

 

But I wish she wouldn’t have shied away one bit! Inappropriate? No Celine! Not at all. Aretha invited you.

 

But I wonder if by “one line” she means her “so alive!!!” lick that she did. Because she stepped forward then. Because obviously in the vocal trade off they did later, she sung many lines.

It's from July 2016 in New York in between the European and Canadian dates of the 2016 tour.

It was in 2016, the same day as her Today Show concert and interviews. If I recall, the Kathy Lee today show was filmed the day prior.

yeah, I think it was only Mariah that made a big drama about it. Just because Mariah felt smaller than Aretha, she felt like she needed to indirectly criticize Celine who just went for it that night, cause Aretha was about to take away Celines opportunity to shine on stage as well and Celine didn’t let her :D

Celine in the interview is talking about the moment during Natural Woman (which Carol King has said Aretha was singing over Celine's line, but either Carol was wrong or Celine is being nice here). I doubt she has ever considered the sing-off during Testimony disrespectful since Aretha literally called her in.

I don’t really believe that Celine saw all the fuss. I honestly think that in that moment she saw that as her little duet/ moment to shine to what we and definitely she believed to be “living legend”.

This is so fantastic to see what a positive reception she’s getting — and shows us how wrong that “critic” was.

 

She gets so much respect from people who are all about VOCALS.

I also hope this super successful tribute to Aretha gets her creative juices flowing and inspires her OWN new music!

 

It’s one thing for her to get a standing ovation singing one of her own songs — but this really is a big deal for Celine these days! She used to do these kinds of performances more often back in the day — but lately it’s been more about her legacy. So it’s incredibly refreshing for her to sing something new and get such a positive response!!

So sad this my first post of 2019... I’ve literally been working almost everyday for the last 5 or 6 years chasing success. In doing so I’ve neglected my health, love life, and sometimes my happiness. I’ve been in excruciating pain for the last month and I just continued to work through it.
