"Celine Dion, looking fabulous in a frilly bright yellow skirt, wins over the church ladies in the audience with her rousing rendition of Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Come.”"

Huh? Videos of this event have many thousands of views on YouTube. Many posted earlier in this thread.

Anyway, nothing new as this has also been posted weeks ago at the time of taping, but -

"While picking a lineup for a show like this can be tricky, Ehrlich says they lucked out, getting “75 to 80 percent” of their original wish list. Another challenge: figuring out which song will be covered by which artist. Though some acts come in committed to playing a favorite single, others are open to suggestions. [...] Celine, I gave her four or five songs to pick from, and she just really wanted to do ‘A Change is Gonna Come.’”

It’s always like that in awards show. It’s always as is.

Grammys, Oscars, Tribute

What do you think of Celine's voice, who understands voice and song, explain to me this final note, because lately Celine is in that hoarse voice.

I liked it, different.

Listened to the clip....not crazy about all those dried up high belts. Not as smooth and like she’s had to push too hard. Hate this type of shows, the vocals are so raw. It would have sounded amazing in the theatre or an arena, but when you isolate everything and layer it on top....this is the result. Would it have killed to put a bit of rever on to give it a warmer, full sound Edited by Tom_London_Fan

It sounded way much better from the few video we had directly from the audience. I was waiting for this so much. It s a big disappointment. 😢

As i said before. Reverb hides imperfections unlike dry vocals where you can easily hear imperfections. Perfect combination with vocals not overpowering the instrumentals

Example of that is L’Olympia Concert Album where her vocals were so soft and smooth and like full of resonance- Reverb adds Resonance. They Also add delays. That’s why Céline loves to do her vocal warm ups in bathrooms or studio that has natural reverbs aswe can see in her LTAL Recording Sessions

You do realise this is what it did sound like in person (as clearer videos show) we just kept posting the same drowned out poor audio clip that made it sound more resonant

Not to mention that its not only intentional rasp, but the point is that its supposed to be raw. Thats what the song requires, ala the strainy mess of all by myselfs high note in the studio and in the 90s live... it requires that gritty, raw, pain filled singing..... Id much rather hear this than the vocals on the TOKYO dvd or TCWT CD/DVD

Its intentional and she uses it quite a bit when covering songs that require it... like Alone in the studio. TJTWIM... the rasp is something aretha also adopted as do many church singers who sing this... its meant to be for better words “triumphant pain”
