Oh thank God. I don't think I could ever listen to her again if she had said yes.

would have been awful, and she is canadian. Better letting the honor to an american. :giggle:

Haha, "the honor" indeed.

She did perform for Clinton's inauguration in 1993, so it's certainly not unheard of for a Canadian to do so -

In any case, while I'm glad she's generally staying mum on politics, I think her family's post in response to The Red Heads posting that photo with Trump the day after the election told you everything you needed to know...

(And for those who missed it, it read - "La Famille Dion Bonjour The Red Heads, nous tenions à informer que nous ne partageons absolument pas les idéologies politiques suivantes. Nous n'en dirons davantage. Et nous vous remercions de bien vouloir parler en votre nom, et non celui de notre sœur. Avec toute notre admiration et notre respect ! - Équipe La Famille Dion ")

You think,

Lol yeah 😂😂😂😂 no need to be sarcastic.

It's surely gonna be the shortest inauguration in history 😂

So true! I cannot even think of a single act that would actually accept performing for him. I guess he'll have to offer tons of money! :D

It wasn't intended to be necessarily a political statement. But, I suppose she was stuck with coming off as political either way.

She was booked in Vegas that date, and didn't want to cancel as she knows fans plan trips around her show. The article (posted below) also discusses how she turned down previous events as well for the same reason. Anyway, people will make it political if they want to I suppose--as someone said, it gets more attention that way.

I'm personally kind of glad it came off as political, if it didn't I have a feeling people would've been angry with her.

Speaking of which, I haven't seen this many articles on social media about her in a while.

I agree this likely wasn't intended as a blunt political statement - it's not her style.

Nevertheless, I'm glad it's been perceived as such, and all the positive social media vibes she's getting as a result are warming my heart. :)

It's also interesting that FB (a.k.a. your mom's social media platform), is where the occasional Trump fanatic gives her a hard time, whereas IG (where the kids are ;) ) is almost uniformly positive, 'love ya', 'you go girl'-type commentary. Gives me lots of hope for the future.

Standing on line in Bed, Bath, and Beyond and they're playing Celine's Christmas Eve! Standing here singing along, not caring how silly I look.

I agree. I always enjoy it when Celine comes off as having an opinion about issues other than family, love, shoes, singing and Las Vegas...

So, as I'm sure most of us have been doing, I've been listening to the "These Are Special Times" album. I have to say, while I adore "Christmas Eve," I do believe that "The Magic Of Christmas Day" could have become a classic had it been released as a single. It's got a great melody, and was written very smart. "Christmas Eve" is great, and fun...but I don't feel it would have had the staying power potential as "The Magic Of Christmas Day."

TMOCD has a more traditional vibe to it. I think this would add to being established as Christmas classic.

I was in there last week and that song played. I sang along. No shame at all.

Yesterday, my mom died at the age of 70 from stage 4 lung cancer. Her favorite Celine song was "To Love You More." Please listen to the song in her honor. It would mean the world to me. Thank you, all.

And as much as I love "Christmas Eve," it's lyrics are cheesey. "TMOCD" isn't cheesey...shmaltz to the max, absolutely.
