This weekend I decided to listen to taking chance again, first time since LMBTL came out. This album has been a slow grower for me, listened a few times and put it away when I first bought it in 2007. I did not appreciate it at first and it took years, until about 2010 before I even listened to it again and learned to really appreciate it. So, now after listening to LMBTL it's like I understand TC more. I think it was a great transition album that was setting the stage for something to come, you know, getting some more uptempo, edgy songs but still maintaining the voice quality that fans were used to. Now the latest release she's trying to update the sounds to her voice, different songs, etc. It just seems more like a natural progression now, what do you guys think?

I think TC is an album that appeals to her core fan-base and people in their 30s, while LMBTL appeals to her core fan-base and people in their 20s. To me, TC was a mixed bag that went nowhere. I regard LMBTL as her true transition and maybe the next album will be even more modern. It all depends on her next release. If she returns to her traditional sound, then LMBTL will be just another album in her discography. Edited by LukeD

She performed 'Immortality' and 'Love Is On The Way' during her LTAL tour, but we never got a real HQ performance. I also miss a HQ clip of the beautiful acoustic medley she did. In my opinion, not releasing a DVD from the Anglophone leg of the LTAL tour, which marks the peak of her popularity, is the worst decision her team has ever made.

I agree! I saw the tour twice - once in Chicago and once in Indianapolis (first show had ABM and the second had IYA/POL). I loved that tour.

I agree some with flutefreak, and disagree with Luke.

I think TC was more modern and edgier than LMBTL! I also think that some of the songs in the LMBTL album are like the same thing she did in the 90's. Im sorry Thankful, ABYG, and At17 dont sound modern. Vocally she sounds better but I am not professional so don't take my word for. I just felt with TC she sang other styles of music than what she usually does. I just don't find edginess in this album too much (LMBTL).

Thinking about it, In my opinion, I think both albums show that they are still debating about taken one of the ways or just keeping doing this... a mixed album with more acoustic and mature songs and modern low pop songs... like wanting to be in the 20's and in the 30's at the same time.. trying to find new younger audience but keeping the mature one... TC had the lead single, Surprise surprise, That's just the woman in me, Right next to the right one, new dawn, a song for you, My love, Skies of L.A, more mature and acoustic songs, then there was Eyes on me, shadow of love, I got nothin left or Fade away destined to younger audience (totally failed purpose in my opinion) and some rocking experiments like Alone, This time or Can't fight this feeling... But there was clearly this two sides the acoustic one and the "modern" one...

For me TC was the first step to finally fall in a completely and natural more mature audiences letting back all this attempts to still catch young audiences like in early 2000 or 90's when she is definetely out of this market. Celine Vegas show was for me the next step in this way, taking classics and the orchestra thing etc...

But then they face a new album and again they face this two ways... like never daring to give the final step... because maybe there is still opportunities to please new younger audiences... so once again we have more serious and meaning songs like Breakaway, Water and a flame, Didn't know love, Thankful, at17, Thank You, How do you keep the music playing, overjoyed, Lullaby (goodnight my angel)... and then this new modern pop attemps in the middle of nowhere (modern but a little bit outdated, very 90's but with a modern touch but not enough) Somebody loves somebody, save your soul, Unfinished songs....

And of course in both album the little present to the 90's hardcore fans ballads, A world to believe in and Always be your girl....

I don't say nothing about LOved me back to life song because I think that it is the best experiment she has made probably in all her career... the unique modern fresh ballad, completely dated song that sadly has passed without notice but it has been a great great attemp and 100% satisfaying in its intentions...

Let's wait for the next move... but I think she will keep this classic/"modern" style because it is becoming (if it has not always been) in the signature style. We will never see a fully modern album or a fully jazzy album.... too hard for them to try...

That's the problem! That's the biggest problem she has, that when she finally decides to try a new music style or something new, she always stays halfway, she never goes to the full with it. With LMBTL song, we have seen it again: she should have done a full album in that style, she should have recorded many more songs in that Sia's music style, or at least more songs with the feeling of SLS or Incredible. But then she returns again to her classic rootes, and goes again with the ballads and "old school" songs. Not that its not right, but come on, how many albums loaded of the same style ballads she has already? The world is not going to end if she records a full album with a similar sound to all the songs. And if it doesn't work, its not the end of the world, she can always do another album full of ballads next time, if she wants. But with her procedures, its always the same, she never goes to a defined musical option, she's in the middle of "nowhere"...

It has happened all the time with all her albums, and we saw it with her concerts too. She takes a step forward, and two backwards  .

haha the problem is that they have created three types of fans... one like you.. that want them to keep in the "pop modern" sound... with songs like SLS or Incredible, another type of fans like me that want them to take the acoustic sound, more jazzy and soul and classy, modern ballads like DKL, BA, Thankful, or WAAF... and a third type of fans that are happy with anything she does because she is CELINE! ;-)

This is very true! Well then throw in the French side and you have such a mixed bag. So I see why she is caught. I don't always agree with it though.....

I always liked TC. I remember that I liked it was more "rock´n roll".

Yes.. I never count with the french side because it is in another parallel galaxy... sometimes I think that someday it will be discovered that there was 2 Celine, twins with the same vocal abilities... one is called Celine and the other one is Céline... maybe the Vegas Celine duet with Celine it is a clue! hahahaha

Thats the reason why I love it because of the rock influences. Before this album, I've always wanted Celine to do songs in a rock-ish style because it suited her voice. Plus I loved some of her rock -ish stuff in the past. So yea.

this is why i'm mad about people who only know the titanic song and judge her to be just able to do that. She is so much more, and could be everything else also, in our mind. We always want more, it is a good sign i would think. She is an oasis, and we don't meet her enough, but there's still the versatile bottle to help us with our thirst. Edited by québecflower
