"Unison" album - Official Topic

I don’t understand why they would release an anniversary edition when she’s promoting new music. She’s not going to have something out for Unison while also promoting Courage...it makes no sense.

 

The best option given her schedule would have been to release a FIY thing a few years back. But she could do it at the 25 year mark, still.

 

And Mariah is a great example of someone who loves to look back and reminisce and honor old milestones...maybe she even takes it too far because apparently she listens to her own music all the time in her house.

 

Celine is the opposite, she never looks back. Sadly for us, but that’s how she is. I wonder if it was her or her team who had the idea for the Barbra throwback.

so that DOESNT mean that she could not be apart of any other project (especially those that she can still do in the COMFORT OF HER HOME like many other celebs have been doing since march!

well i really do agree with you 100% about a large campaign or anything like that, especially because of the current pandemic... i definetely WOULD NOT have expected anything like that either realistically... but...

 

like you said (& many others on this forum too recently on other threads about this very subject,) there still COULD HAVE BEEN stuff done ONLINE!!!!!! celine & her team could have used her social media to the max to honor "unison" after 30 years (or hell, even used it TO PROMOTE HER CURRENT ALBUM "COURAGE" FOR HEAVENS SAKE, but i digress lol...) they could have used various DIGITAL & STREAMING SERVICES (i am talking about youtube, spotify, itunes, google play, amazon, apple music, etc) to release videos & stuff that could have been recorded IN THE COMFORT OF CELINES HOME OR SOMEBODY ELSES!

 

but noooooope, they didnt as usual! it seems to me since this whole pandemic started almost 6 months ago (geez i cant believe it has been THAT LONG already, but sometimes i feel this has lasted for 6 YEARS,) that celine DOES NOT LIKE recording anything from home & prefers to NOT DO IT if she doesnt absolutely have to... for instance, the lady gaga stay-@-home concert event thing back in april, i think celine had ONLY participated in that because gaga had invited celine to do that & performed "the prayer" with gaga, andrea bocelli, & john legend, because otherwise i would safely bet if gaga did not invite celine to do that event, celine would have NEVER done it @ all! evidence that in the past almost 5 months since that show, there has not been ONE single video recorded by celine singing since then! it is apparent that celine is not really into doing social media posts or recording @-home videos if she DOES NOT have to do them, i love celine with all my heart, but it is more apparent as days, weeks, months, etc go by... especially in this pandemic when, except for a few "courage album leftovers" from last year posted (stuff posted WAAAAY TOO LATE in my opinion since "courage" is nearly a year old now, we have BARELY heard any peep from celine & she has all the free time in the world right now as there will be no shows for who knows when @ this point!) such a wasted opportunity as usual as per norm sighhhhh 😔🙄

What do you all think of the production on Unison? I don't get why the song doesn't have more views. I think it's one of her best upbeat songs, I prefer it to LCMM

I definitely prefer it to LCMM, but the production's very much of its time. It's a fun song, but nothing about it stands out as special. I prefer the Remix, but that's just as of its time, too.

It's so sad because some early 90s stuff sounds very fresh today....and I feel Unison especially (but to some extent her other two English albums after that) could really still sound fresh today, but the instrumentation/production just holds it back so much.

 

Like, Whitney Houston's 80s stuff sounds easier on the ears than the song "Unison" ....not they necessarily could have known that at the time, hindsight is 20/20 but yeah....

OMG did you all know Unison was also a cover? It's from 1983 by an artist named Junior, written by Bruce Roberts.

 

 

And the same year, 1990, that Celine put out the song, Laura Branigan---who also covered "Power of Love" like Celine did, but Laura did it in 1987--also released the song "Unison" .... Laura released her album 2 weeks before Celine did, so two versions of the song essentially came out at the same time

Actually that part is on the demo from 1988 (but in the bridge, like the booklet points).... as well as the different lyrics for the last chorus...

I've listened to "Unison" after maybe more than 20 years.

 

OMG! This album is amazing and sounds so current.

 

I mean it doesn't sound fresh because it has the typical touch of the 80s but that's what makes it so current. A lot of albums lately are inspired by this sound ( the Weekend at the top of the list).

 

I didn't know Laura Branigan covered "Unison" as well...the last minute of her version is so good ( makes me vaguely thinks of Janet Jacksons's 80s stuff) but the whole version is a mix of different directions.

 

Céline's went for the whole dance path and the extended mainstream mix is one of her best remixes.

 

"Unison" is a very good mix of soft rock balads/80s synth dance/pop rock songs. Production is excellent.
