I think her first UK TV performance was at Top of the Pops with Beauty and the Beast in 1992, which was a Top Ten hit in the UK. But you are right, the Celinemania started in 1994/1995 with The Colour of my Love.

 

Thank you so much. I tend to forget about that song, not being one I’m keen on. 1992? I wonder if Celinemania (love it), would have been sooner had she flown to UK soil and promoted the album in 1990.

I think the UK began to be obsessed with Celine when she released Think Twice. last year when she sang Think Twice in the UK at the BST Hyde Park festival, everybody was screaming and going crazy, it was amazing :giggle:

I wonder if that performance in the UK was ever broadcast or if a recording of it can be found anywhere on YT ... Didn't know about it. I think one of the very first Celine albums that I listened to was Unison on a cassette tape I had purchased around 2001-2002. "The last to know" and "If we could start over again" have remained favourites throughout the years

 

I'm pretty sure the FYI, D'eux (The French Album) and LTAL album sales helped boost the sales for Unison as well ... guess it happens with quite a lot of artists when you hear a big hit from them and start shopping around for all past releases

 

I read somewhere around here that they recorded more than 10 songs for the album and at one moment in time they were considering to translate "Incognito" into English - I guess that's where they came up with the idea for "Have a heart" which is the English version of "Partout je te vois". I'd be interested to listen to any other unreleased tracks or demos they did for this album

you're right, apparently it was initially recorded by by American R&B singer Angela Clemmons for her second studio album, This Is Love (1987). It was written by Aldo Nova, Billy Steinberg and Ralph McCarthy, and produced by Nova. Later, it was covered by Canadian singer Celine Dion . I did not know that

The official story (even published in her official biography) stated that Aldo Nova wrote English lyrics for her performance at the 1987 Juno Awards because Rene wanted that she sang in English to get attention from the audience. Then the song was recorded in English for Unison. But it doesn't surprise me that they change the versions because René used to do that (especially with figures).

 

I can't believe that the album that started her international career and probably the one she worked the hardest on turned 30 and there was not a single word from her to mark the anniversary. That goes to show how little she cares about her work.

Her peaked in n.55 was only in 1995 when The Colour of my Love was a international hit. At the time of released, Unison charted only in US and Canada.

 

Same thing also for the self-titled album. Outside Canada and US, only japan and Australia was a debut of success with this album in 1992 and was her breakthrought in the two countrys, and it's also charted in New Zealand in 1992. And also sold 50 000 copies of this album at the time of released in 1992 in Japan. In fact, the album was certified gold in Australia in december 1992, six months after his released in Australia.

Celine passion for music definitely seems to be less than before. I wonder if part of that is that her music career is so tied to René? The fashion is her own, the ballet is her own, the children’s clothing line is her own. Does she even golf anymore? That was something she did with René.

 

Maybe the “business” of music is too tied to René and she’s just not able to focus on it yet. Singing was with her before René, it’s in her blood. But “show business” didn’t happen until René made it happen for her.

Things could have flopped, but I still think that she loves singing and those songs the same. I am sure someone here can remember or point to an interview where she has talked about songs that she loves to sing that never got off the ground or that weren't released as singles...

 

Like that time she sang "A Song For You" on Oprah from Taking Chances.... or when she brought out Refuse to Dance. I'm sure those obscure choices show her own love for her music.

 

But yes, I will be first in line to critique her team and their decisions....

for Taylor and many others mostly with Universal u will see they would have so many different versions that's how they milk money!!! (also look at Kylie's upcoming album) one thing i'm kinda glad that they don't have many many versions / editions otherwise fans (collectors or so) will be broke after.....

i know a taylor fan also a Celine fan that ordered every versions of Taylor's new album and he spent more than 1K US dollar on them.........

on saying that of course i would love anniversary edition of Celine's albums which they only did for D'eux and kinda for These are special times

and for Courage what do u want for bonus songs??? there's already 21 songs on the album which is alot for a standard normal album nowadays.....

but would be nice to have like making of DVD include in the album though or something........

I don’t understand why they would release an anniversary edition when she’s promoting new music. She’s not going to have something out for Unison while also promoting Courage...it makes no sense.

 

The best option given her schedule would have been to release a FIY thing a few years back. But she could do it at the 25 year mark, still.

 

And Mariah is a great example of someone who loves to look back and reminisce and honor old milestones...maybe she even takes it too far because apparently she listens to her own music all the time in her house.

 

Celine is the opposite, she never looks back. Sadly for us, but that’s how she is. I wonder if it was her or her team who had the idea for the Barbra throwback.
