Taking Chances Posted October 2, 2020 at 10:46 PM Posted October 2, 2020 at 10:46 PM Aretha clearly invited Celine "help me lift it...help me lift it".And Celine accepted the invite. plus - Celine was part of the Aretha tribute concert. Where was Mariah? If Aretha had issues with Celine - would her family invite Celine to be part of the tribute? no. end of story I just watched again, and all the women except Mariah is dancing and having fun. Mariah is just standing there looking super awkward and uncomfortable. She's not moving at all for the entire performance, lol. Carol walks past Mariah to dance with Gloria, (which is hilarious) Celine dances with Shania, and Aretha is in the front singing. Mariah is totally left out and she's not doing anything about it. She could have gone up to either of the women and danced next to them, but we all know Mariah doesn't move her body, much less dance, so she can really blame herself for not participating. She didn't want to do anything during that performance, she didn't want to sing with Aretha after she was asked, and she didn't want to move to the music and have fun.... and she's the only one complaining about that performance afterwards. Everybody knows Aretha asked the women to "help her lift it", and Celine did after Mariah couldn't. It's quite interesting that Mariah wasn't at Aretha's tribute concert, but Celine was. It just goes to show that Mariah likes to talk, but doesn't put her money where her mouth is. If she really thought so highly of Aretha, she should have been there. 6 Quote
ryba Posted October 2, 2020 at 11:12 PM Posted October 2, 2020 at 11:12 PM Oh, and just to add: Mariah is a blaphemy. Where was she during the tribute to late Aretha? Celine did perform to pay tribute to her, but where was Mariah? Now Celien could shame her too! But she is too classy. Mariah should be ashamed to still drumm up this silly story. Moreover, If it wasn't for Celines advice with acupuncture, Mariah maybe wouldn't get pregnant. She should be thankful to Celine instead of using every opportunity to bring up her own stupid version of the Divas story. 1 Quote
sarit_celine Posted October 2, 2020 at 11:43 PM Posted October 2, 2020 at 11:43 PM It will be amazing if Celine one day will record Dolly Parton's "I will always love you".She says she watched Pink perform "Jolene" at the 2019 MusiCares gala. "It was spectacular," she tells PEOPLE. "And I was thinking, 'Oh God, I hope she puts that out in the singles one day.'"Two names come up when Parton is asked who's on her wish list of singers to cover her songs. "Wouldn't you love to hear Céline Dion sing 'I Will Always Love You?' Would that not be great? Or Barbra Streisand? And I think I would love to hear either one of them sing 'Jolene.'" 4 Quote "Needed in the chaos and confusion, from the plains to City HallNeeded where the proud who walk the wire are set to fall"
Xpresso Posted October 3, 2020 at 12:11 PM Posted October 3, 2020 at 12:11 PM Celine could pull off Jolene without a doubt. And I'm pretty sure it would sound amazing! 1 Quote

Celine did perform to pay tribute to her, but where was Mariah? Now Celine could shame her too! I agree. It's quite despicable behavior. If Celine was like Mariah, she would have found a way to sell people her advice on acupuncture, but she just told people because she knew it might actually help someone in the same situation. Mariah would have charged money for that advice. I just took a look at the booklet for VH1 Divas 98 again because I knew all the information was there. All the proof that this wasn't a tribute to Aretha is right in the booklet for the CD. There is nothing mentioned about this event being Aretha's tribute. Aretha had an actual tribute dedicated to her in 2019, but Mariah didn't show up to that, unlike Celine. I'd be curious to know what Mariah actually has to say about that. "Aretha was and is the definitive Diva, and thus became their role model for the night." This is specifically what it says, and she agreed to do the event after Celine. At best Aretha was a role model for the other women being the Queen of Soul and all that, but that is not the same thing as this being her tribute. Later in the booklet it says "The VH1 Save The Music initiative, which helped inspire the Divas to join the event, is dedicated to improving the quality of education in America's public schools by restoring and supporting music programs in communities across the country." Thankfully we have proof that Mariah is lying, and if the videos of the actual performances isn't enough, it's written in the booklet. 1 Quote
Derek F. Posted October 3, 2020 at 07:15 PM Posted October 3, 2020 at 07:15 PM Carrie Underwood just released her first Christmas album, called "My Gift", and for the album, she recorded "O Holy Night". For a recent interview about the album, Carrie mentioned Celine, and her incredible recording of "O Holy Night"!Here is the part in the interview: Underwood prepared for creating renditions of classics such as “O Holy Night,” “Silent Night,” and “Mary, Did You Know?” by culling numerous previously-done renditions, noting things she gravitated toward.“I went through like every single song and I went on my iTunes and just started listening to so many versions, and marked down notes to give him an idea of what I was looking for, like Celine Dion’s version of ‘O Holy Night’ is so beautiful and big and classic. That was one I referenced." I love Celine's "O Holy Night"!, and I love that Carrie said this and gave Celine's recording some love and wanted her recording to be similar to Celine's!! manolo19 Posted October 3, 2020 at 07:24 PM Posted October 3, 2020 at 07:24 PM I still think Celine should have more recognition for that album ... every rendition are flawless , majestic , powerful it is so well produced and her vocals are out of this world .. every christmas I feel she is in the shadow of Mariah because of her one Monster hit. 4 Quote
smw Posted October 3, 2020 at 09:47 PM Posted October 3, 2020 at 09:47 PM I never fully understood how doctored so many of Mariah's live performances were. Even from her vocal peak in the early 90s. For example, I always thought that her MTV Unplugged was truly live...but it was doctored! I had no clue. She's been more of a studio artist from the very beginning, I just never realized it. Quote

Agreed. And Celine doesn't seem to have much interest in being the Queen of Christmas. But she could easily do a little bit more to shine light on her phenomenal Christmas album. The vocals on These Are Special Times surpass Mariah's Merry Christmas album. Quote
thatstheteacherinmehbaby Posted October 3, 2020 at 10:13 PM Posted October 3, 2020 at 10:13 PM (edited) She kinda did, no? During the filming of that Courage tour trucker promo video? wait are you talking about dolly partons song "jolene"? because i do not recallceline singing that in that video (now you are talking about that video of celine, pepe, & sydney on the tour bus with the old ladies playing slot machines & the fake elvis imitators singing, & celines song "flying on my own" is playing in the background right? just making sure lol) 😊😉 but hmmm i do not recall "jolene" being sung, only "FOMO" was sung in that vid... must go to youtube & find that video again, i like that video... ❤😍 Edited October 3, 2020 at 10:14 PM by thatstheteacherinmehbaby Quote sincerely, maria <3

She's been more of a studio artist from the very beginning, I just never realized it. I don’t know why no one noticed it before but I do. It’s a bit obvious actually. Especially the live in Madison Square Garden All of her live videos are dubbed. That’s why I kept on saying before that it’s unfair to use these dubbed performances to compare to Céline’s undubbed live performances when mariah fans are comparing Mariah to other singers. Mariah’s dubbed vocals are done in studio (the same quality in her cds) That’s why the sound quality is always amazing. Perfectly done with reverbs (making the resonance more intense), making the vocals softer/lighter. - like all done when recording for cds. The Queen of Dubbing haha That’s why the resonance that the lambs keeps on saying. It’s reverb. Reverbs are helping her to release more resonance. Try singing in huge spaces and bathrooms (your voice will resonate eveywhere) See? She likes reverbs haha https://www.instagram.com/p/CFl2EwWJ3xe/?igshid=i3eqd2pi7f2c Edited October 4, 2020 at 05:26 AM by jpatdeleon09 1 Quote

So that's why when I was listening to Carrie's version yesterday, I could tell she was inspired by Celine's version. You could tell by the arrangement and the structure of the verses. In the final part, she also sings Noel... it was in Celine's version I first heard that used. In most versions, they use "Oh night, divine..." Like Mariah's version. 1 Quote

I like early 90s Mariah too. I was looking forward to reading her book & listening to her rarities album. Don't hold it against her haha Anyone that is not a lamb and has a bit of critical thinking knows that it didn't happen the way she tells it. She is covering her insecurity that night by trying to convince people that Celine acted out of line. That's simply no true. She is not being objective, which is maybe expected in a memoir. But if she treats all the other chapters the same I'd just question the accuracy of the book... Quote

Who are her biggest platform supporters?A lot of people casually like Celine Dion but in the 90s and into the early 2000s she had huge support. She had Oprah, Jay Leno, Rosie O'Donnell, Larry King, Barbra Walters / The View, etc. etc. Right now, her biggest talk show and / or celebrity supporters with real platforms are: -Deborah Roberts on Good Morning America and Nightline-Robin Roberts and the Good Morning America team seems to really like her-Gayle King / CBS This Morning-RuPaul-Katie Couric (she still has various platforms)-The Today Show hosts are supportive. Hoda and Kathie Lee (who loved Celine from the very beginning, but she has left the show now) and some of the newer hosts like her too.-Jimmy Kimmel has come around-Jimmy Fallon likes her a lot-Liz Plank-Danny Pellegrino-The women at The Talk seem to like her but those hosts seem to change all the time-The women at The View seem to be casual fans. Interestingly, Meghan McCain is the only one who goes out of her way to voice love for Celine. (Even though I strongly disagree with her politics!) I know Joy and Whoopi have had good interactions with Celine in the past. Not celebs or hosts but still platforms:-Entertainment Tonight-Entertainment Tonight Canada-People magazine Who else?? (I'm still hoping for a Celine and Oprah reunion!) And then there are those who don't seem like truly big fans... like Ellen, James Corden, Andy Cohen. I'm looking for people who really get who Celine is, respect her talent and her as a person, and go out of their way to show support. Edited October 7, 2020 at 08:45 PM by smw 1 Quote
