Popular Post Alison_Loves_Celine Posted July 17, 2017 at 01:41 PM Popular Post Posted July 17, 2017 at 01:41 PM Exactly!! Let's just enjoy these last few precious weeks of having Celine here in Europe. I for one will miss my daily fix of what she's up to when she returns to Vegas so would like to just enjoy this time before it ends. Not sure what all the bickering on artistry is about anyway when Celine to my mind has always been first and foremost a singer...an interpreter of song and she's never proclaimed to be anything else. If you're looking for artistry then maybe you should be fans of say Madonna, Lady Gaga etc. I do sometimes read comments on here & wonder if some people are in fact fans of Céline .. or are just trolling the internet. Popular Post CelinesDIVO5 Posted July 17, 2017 at 01:44 PM Popular Post Posted July 17, 2017 at 01:44 PM I just find this debate very frustrating whenever it's rehashed across the internet. People don't seem to realize that the whole idea that you have to write your own material to be a true artist is tied to a very white, very "rockist" singer-songwriter tradition that only emerged (on a wide scale) in the latter half of the 20th century. So what, artists didn't exist before then? How ridiculous! And yes, I realize there are r&b singer-songwriters (as well those from other genres), but the discourse in music criticism that shaped this elitist idea of "true artistry" is specifically tied to early folk and then rock singer-songwriters. If you've ever talked at all to rock fans, a lot of them make assumptions about artists from other genres for this very reason - assuming that they automatically must not write their own music, even if they do. And when confronted with the facts, they still try to deny it or question it. I don't even find Mariah's songwriting particularly good, but this is a woman who literally co-wrote her entire discography, yet whenever there is press coverage of her US #1's solo record slowly creeping up on The Beatles' record, the rock fans come swarming out en masse to scream about how she's a manufactured diva who hasn't written any of her own songs! Even if someone personally claims that their definition of artistry isn't based on this genre eliticism, they still can't deny the fact that they were influenced subconsciously by the wider discourse within music criticism. Celine is an artist because she expresses herself artistically through her songs. The way she colors a note or adjusts her phrasing to convey a certain mood or tone is no different than what a painter or sculptor does. I agree with you. The woman can interpret a song like no other. Do all interpretive dancers choreograph their numbers? Absolutely not. Are they still artists? 100% yes. 8 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay

SuperLove4Celine Posted July 17, 2017 at 02:50 PM Posted July 17, 2017 at 02:50 PM There are many posts I want to quote, but I don't want to derail this thread any further than some of us already have, myself included. If anyone would like to discuss the "artistry" topic further with me, please send me a private message. Until then, some of us will have to agree to disagree. 1 Quote

Critiaslux Posted July 17, 2017 at 03:36 PM Posted July 17, 2017 at 03:36 PM Which further solidifies my belief it's always been more about being a performer/entertainer and being famous than being an artist. A real artist would never do something so commercialistically hollow. Very pompous conclusion lol I am certain that Kant would give a 5 on that one 😉 1 Quote

And maybe we will get some sort of documentary, would be nice to have some insight as Celine doesn't give any interview and I'd like to hear her thoughts on this tour and summer overall. but if not I'm okay with it Edited July 17, 2017 at 03:51 PM by maria_k 2 Quote

Do they hide or plan something? Being in the entertainment industry myself, I would surmise that the person who had their face blocked out simply didn't sign the release/waiver form that would allow him to be on camera. No matter what it is - if cameras are filming, everyone around has to sign a release/waiver. When filming is done of large crowds, there are usually signs posted that say something like "This performance will be recorded for commercial release. You may end up on camera. If this is a problem, you must leave the venue. By staying, you are agreeing for {such and such company} to use your likeness in perpetuity...." blah blah blah Edited July 17, 2017 at 04:09 PM by couldawouldashoulda Quote
