Céline Dion Live 2017 (tour) - Official Topic

Back from London guys! Woah, what an amazing experience . Her voice is in top shape, I'm so glad I went to the first shows of the tour Only MHWGO still sounds as she's definitely sick of performing it, but the rest of the songs, just WOW. I'll share later what are my favourite songs and moments of the show.

 

I'm still on cloude nine, have to catch up on this thread to see your reactions and all.

 

I tried to live stream some songs on Facebook but I guess the quality wasn't that good. What pissed me off is that I got to see Celine during "Love Of My Life" like 4-5 meters from her (only the security guard stopped me from getting closer lol) and the video wasn't filmed in HD Oh dear... Anyway, still I got a pretty decent video of the moment, and I was thanking God all the time for making me a tall guy. I waved Celine a couple of times and when she looks at you, you can imagine... you can melt.

 

Thing is that I had to choose between doing video or taking pictures and I just thought that I'd better like to keep a video of the moment, but the pictures from that distance would have been just GREAT (like my friend Fran who took some great quality pictures of her during the song). Hope you could see some videos of the London shows and enjoy. The got the whole audience into her pockets, standing up and cheering in crazy applause from the very first notes of TPOL to the last song. The energy in the O2 was crazy!

I'm going to put this out there.... this performance - her and Kevan - that live full throated delicious vocal.... makes almost everything in Vegas look mediocre. This is truly magical - and also her best ever song. Thanks for recording and posting!

Thank you! PLEASE when she goes back to Vegas, she needs to move TPOL to the top of the show with the curtain drop. I'm pretty sure this is a good sign she will... goosebumps.

Sorry guys but it's kinda correct not many people buy dvds like once before. But each song could maybe be recorded and uploaded on to Celine's vevo on YouTube, its sort of the direction we are heading in 2017.

Totally agree with Denis. Who buys DVDs? I really don't get why some on here are so fixated on the idea. DVDs are generally loss leaders. I'm not surprised Sony's not wasting money on them anymore and I don't particularly care. There's plenty of footage on YT and elsewhere (and I like it unsanitized).

 

That being said, what they really should be focused on in terms of releasing HD footage, is an OTT strategy. Release concert footage on Netflix or Amazon or Hulu or the (now delayed) Vevo subscription service or YouTube Red. That's where the eyeballs (and money) are. Printing DVDs, you're only losing oodles of money and preaching to the choir (and a shrinking one, at that; I'm a die-hard fan, but I would definitely never buy a Celine tour DVD... what would I play it on? I have't had a DVD player nor a CD/ DVD slot in any of my computers for years...Plus it's such a hassle.)

As a content owner, you're in far better position to reach a new audience via a subscription OTT service than wasting money on DVDs.

Think Twice and The Reason get me EVERY DAMN TIME. Like, I'm cheering and crying in front of my screen with each new performance. I can only imagine what it´s like for people who are actually there! My only time seeing Celine live was in Arras in 2008, and the only similar moment was Je Sais Pas... oh and listening to Celine doing soundcheck before they opened the gates, singing... I'd much rather a Blu-ray disc release, but of course if they did that they'd have to release it on DVD as per usual.

The audio bitrate of YouTube videos are 192kbps at most, even if the video is "HD/1080p". If they provided an uncompressed file of the recording that could be downloaded at a price, then I'd be fine with having a non-physical media release (not sure how likely that is though). I just care about quality.

 

We need a video version of Onkyo Music or HDtracks where high res uncompressed music videos and concert videos can be downloaded!

I still buy dvd's and they should make it available for fans or something on DVD. But, I agree, the way people take in live performances are changing. Streaming is where it's at. They should make a deal with streaming sites, and make it available on Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, even YouTube. A lot of artists are doing that now, and while people would need a subscription (except for Youtube), it's heading that way.

Let us not forget a certain Lindsey Stirling is the top-paid woman on YouTube. On the back of her music videos. Like, we're talking $6m/year kinda money (2015 Fores estimate), and she came from nowhere, without a massive pre-existing fan base. And that's from free ad-supported YouTube. Now she's also on the YouTube Red subscription service with exclusive content.

(Given that an artist makes something like 10% off retail gross from a CD sale, let's estimate, back of envelope, a $10 DVD would net her $1. So she'd need to sell 6 million DVDs to make that kind of $... think of that in context of Celine's ~1 million copies sold of EUS. Bottom line = selling DVDs doesn't make any commercial sense.)
