I liked Cheap Thrills but Celine is a great artist too who is too afraid to experiment more and sing other songs from.her big catelogue. stevo Posted November 29, 2016 at 07:11 AM Posted November 29, 2016 at 07:11 AM (edited) No it doesn't- it means she was having fun and thought of singing some other song. I've never seen her so happy and having so much fun in her shows. That is why I went off Vegas, because she seemed so bored and just wanted each show to end. Now she's really giving it her personality and I want to go! Edited November 29, 2016 at 07:11 AM by stevo 2 Quote

I thought this year started great with all the tv appearances and her tour. But then her amazing new album came out and it couldn't get any better, they decided to let it die slowly but painful. So my guess that next year the will stick with the same plan? ;-)Or will that be the surprise? That they finally promote her album the way it should be? I have a strong feeling that next year, a lot of fans will be very happy for a few different reasons. Popular Post scielle Posted November 29, 2016 at 01:35 PM Popular Post Posted November 29, 2016 at 01:35 PM (edited) Well, I finally caved and went to see the show this past Saturday.Went to Vegas for Cirque, mostly, (4 shows in 2 days!), but figured I should probably take the opportunity to see Celine as well. I've never really had much interest in seeing the show, given what I think is the largely uninspired setlist, and since I mostly like my Celine en francais. That, plus the crazy prices for the 90-min length... just got waaay more for my $ with the Montreal shows. All that being said, I'm glad to have crossed it off the bucket list. I'm convinced Celine wouldn't have a first clue how to phone in a performance, so it's always fascinating watching her in action, and it's a fabulous venue that really makes her vocals shine. While I understand and agree with all the grumbling about the set list being same old, having experienced it I now totally get why it is what it is. The vast majority of the audience there is not of the rabid fan variety. Sure, there is always a contingent there who know the catalogue and would love some deeper cuts, but just observing and listening to those around, most don't know much about her (heard a lot of conversations and questions that had me going "how are you here and not know that?" Like, you'd think people paying that much for tickets would know about Rene, and that she's got a French career, started very young, massive family, etc. Like, pretty obvious Celine stuff!) It's a lot of casual fans, the (moneyed) curious who want to see what all the fuss is about, the convention crowd, etc. They're there to hear stuff they know and some vocal acrobatics. And that they get in spades so they come away satisfied and tell their friends and colleagues. And so it goes for 1000+ shows. The audience coming to a tour show I found to be very different. They know everything about her (thought in fairness, perhaps that's because I'm comparing to Montreal). Real fans. Whereas this is a show for the masses. I think if she dared to do something that strayed too far away from that formula, she would not have sold out that theatre for so long. As much as many of us would love an English version of this summer's French tour, I don't think that kind of show would last. (I just feel really bad for all those Quebecers who come all this way to see their Celine Nationale - like the elderly couple beside me who didn't speak any English and got all confused by the usher - that all they get is 1:45min of Quand ca balance.) Highlights for me were the jazz segment (no surprise there) and ABM. I know many here feel that song has got to go, but seeing the crowd reaction to it convinced me that it, along with MHWGO, are the two non-negotiables. Low point: Incredible. I despise that song. Celine's reaction to that proposal was so genuine and fun! But much as I loooove improv, I do wish she'd stop breaking out into Sia songs at every occasion. Only negative comments I heard afterwards were that she did too much talking. And I'd agree. Her sincerity resonates and she has great one liners and comic timing which I think surprises people (in a good way), but there are also times she gets lost in her English and rambles on and it just gets a bit awkward. But there are definitely gems in some of those stream-of-consciousness speeches. And I love it that she seems to have more confidence now to go "off script", because some of those canned speeches of yore were just so maudlin. She's so much more lovable when she's impromptu. Taking Chances Posted November 29, 2016 at 01:48 PM Posted November 29, 2016 at 01:48 PM I don't remember well, but I think Adele twitted something when Celine was singing Rolling In The Deep in her show a fe years ago. But it's not about that, I was referring to the attitude between these "divas" and personalities. Celine, Sia and Adele are very different kinds of singers, Adele being on the antipodean of the class and manners that both Celine and Sia have. That's why I said she's closer to how Mariah Carey behaves and Sia's closer to Celine. Not to mention that the massive success that Adele had clearly went to her head I've never seen Adele to be kind of like a diva, not "Mariah-kind-of-diva" anyway, but I understand what you mean. Although I'm not sure it means anything just because she doesn't talk about Celine. Adele strikes me as the type of person to just say whatever she wants, and if she's asked about Celine I'm sure she would say something nice. Maybe not something amazing, but something nice. One thing I have noticed is that Adele kind of has an edge that sometimes can come off a little weird. If Adele never mentions Celine, it could be because Adele wants to be the biggest singer out there. Everyone is envious of someone else. And though Adele is great, Celine is better. The proposal and improv song were great!! I dislike the black dress...sorry guys! Hopefully, when she returns in 2017 her wardrobe gets an update also, eh? Love that Sia sent her a message! We all love Celine! I think the black dress is beautiful. Surly she has prettier dresses, but I like the black dress a lot more than the yellow one. Although my favorite is the first silvery one. Has Sia sent Celine a message recently? I liked Cheap Thrills but Celine is a great artist too who is too afraid to experiment more and sing other songs from.her big catelogue. There are plenty that are just as great. This Sia singing was great but it also shows that she is indeed bored with her current setlist. I loved Cheap Thrills, but I wished she sang the whole thing. Or mixed it up with maybe a different Sia song or something. It would be cool if she actually included it in her setlist and got rid of some of the other songs. It's clearly what she enjoys, she really seems to love to sing Sia songs. Then by all means, sing them. But I do agree with you, Celine has an amazing catalogue of songs to choose from, she should sing some of her own songs that she never sings, and she probably is bored with her setlist. Though, at this point I understand that Celine loves a little bit of humour, a little mixture of upbeat songs, and she loves to sing Sia or Adele. She should change the setlist. 2 Quote
scielle Posted November 29, 2016 at 01:59 PM Posted November 29, 2016 at 01:59 PM (edited) Oh and PS - Funniest bit for me was when she talked about her push-up dress bodice, joked how she should start keeping stuff in her cleavage... even put a mike in there at one point! "There's a lot of space there, trust me...these aren't mine". Doubly funny because the night before I saw Cirque's Zumanity, and there's a bit in it where one of the 'clowns' does DIY breast implants (ziploc filled with scotch, hahah), and at the end she quipped "if you want a pair, call me at this number, because let's face it, you're not gonna get this at the Celine Dion show". Well, the next day we totally did get it at the Celine Dion show! It's about 1:40 into this (with some requisite Adele thrown in for good measure) -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZoHZ1rtI-s&t=1m40s Edited November 29, 2016 at 02:01 PM by scielle 4 Quote

MrTim212 Posted November 29, 2016 at 04:21 PM Posted November 29, 2016 at 04:21 PM I think the reason why so many of us are disappointed with the setlist overall has nothing to do with the show itself - a residency is always going to be the hits - look at Mariah's, it's LITERALLY the track listing of her #1s album. Elton John had a brand new album out this year and he doesn't do any of the songs in his show at the Colosseum. I think most people understand this. Yes, she could throw in one or two album cuts or lesser known singles, but overall, we should expect the setlist will be POL, BATB, BYLM, IACBTMN, MHWGO, etc. etc. The PROBLEM here is that Céline hasn't done an English-language tour in almost 10 years, so there has not been an outlet for her English catalogue - like we saw with her French catalogue this year during the summer tour - other than the Vegas show. It will be very interesting if/when she goes on tour in summer 2017 with a mostly English-language show... I think that's when we have a better chance of hearing "Then You Look At Me," tracks from "Loved Me Back To Life," and some of the lesser known tracks from the self-titled album, and TCOML. 6 Quote je me changerai en or pour que tu m'aimes encore

ivo Posted November 29, 2016 at 07:35 PM Posted November 29, 2016 at 07:35 PM (edited) I think it is time to end Vegas or reduce the amount of shows to maximum 20 a year or something like that. I saw the show once and it was amazing, but it can't be compared to a real Celine concert. I have the feeling she rushed through this last series of concert just to get it done. She is not really focussed to deliver the quality performances that she is known for. For me this show has lost it's magic.
