Xpresso Posted January 22, 2018 at 03:04 PM Posted January 22, 2018 at 03:04 PM The word "burnout" was used in the French magazine. It's a word also used in French when someone is exhausted (professional exhaustion). The magazine wasn't refering to vocal problems. If Céline really has a burnout (either occupational or voice-related), I assume they wouldn't have announced the tour. 4 Quote
DionFanAlways Posted January 22, 2018 at 04:28 PM Posted January 22, 2018 at 04:28 PM that may be so, but it's also vocal damage. see here:https://www.vocalzone.com/the-record-blog/v-team-vocal-care/vocal-burnout-3-tips-stop-ruining-voice-2/ i'm in the music industry and as i said, i had surgery because of it. i guess it can refer to either. but it's definitely used in the industry to refer to damaging/exhausting your voice. I didn’t interpret the article that way but thank you for the info. It’s alwaays good to learn new things! 1 Quote I have had the time of my life following this woman! Much love.

Nmj Posted January 22, 2018 at 10:37 PM Posted January 22, 2018 at 10:37 PM Justin Timberlake was interviewed recently and asked about his idea of doing a Vegas residency, and he said “ I feel like doing a Vegas residency is like planning your retirement.” Many are saying it was a swipe at his former love, Britney Spears, but he is clearly saying everyone who does them because he never said Britney’s name. I just think those comments are terrible. Celine has more than proven that performing in Vegas doesn’t mean retirement or being that someone is ending their career. The “titanic”didn’t sink again, it only did once. Lol I find it funny he says that when he hasn’t really done anything in years and all of sudden he releases new music which is GARBAGE, and I like his older stuff and the 20/20 album. If he keeps releasing that crap he’s gonna have to beg Vegas to give his #ss a Vegas residency! 1 Quote

I won't start it all over again but since Céline went to Vegas, her international career has never been the same as before. Like it or not, peak passed or not, sales and beyond. It hasn't been a retirement but in a way it's been like a 15 year sloooooow retirement. Half retirement, half isolation from her peers in the industry. Never the same again. Javito Posted January 22, 2018 at 11:32 PM Posted January 22, 2018 at 11:32 PM (edited) At Celine’s choice. She could do both international and Vegas if she wanted to. Exactly why she SOLD OUT show after show across 5 continents during the TC world tour, just moths after her 5 years in Vegas. Yeah she sold out and she still does, but because she has a loyal public that goes to see the 90s Céline, the image of that singer that rise to stardom between 1996 and 2000. Little attention has she received for the music she has released since 2003, those two English albums released in 2007 and 2013. And don't tell me it has to do with aging and that nosense because Madonna is older than her and she saw one of her most acclaimed albums get roaring attention and talking in every corner of the world at 46, in 2005 (Confessions On A Dancefloor) and still got worldwide attention and decent radio airplay with the next one (Hard Candy, 2008) at 49. Non until her last release did she saw diminsh her radio airplay and interest in her music a bit. I know comparisons are hateful, but if one kept being relevant in her 40s and 50s and Céline slowly diminished that relevance (voluntarily, as you say), we all know why and what didn't help that relevance to be supported. One was secluded for years in one exclusive place (and still is), the other toured the world with each new album (released every 3 years). One kept releasing albums about babies and covers, the other kept releasing original songs and reinventing herself with a new style and sound for each album. One released two English albums in 10 years, the other has released four in the same time. But I credit Celine here because she has released two French albums also during this time, so this doesn't really count. BUT still... in the long term it is her international career which has suffered the consequences. No more nominations, no more hits after 2003... that's what it is. Call it Vegas or any name you like, but it is what it is, before and after it. Edited January 22, 2018 at 11:43 PM by Javito Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

I disagree to an extent. 2003-2007 with A New Day was revolutionary and she was on. TV and In media and releasing albums and doing promo that counted. But 2011-2017 she did like 3 award shows and a few fashion shows. Since 2011 shes slowed down alot but 2017 has been a good year, she got back into media, touring, and being on the media spotlight. 2003-2007 she was still massively active is My point because no one had EVER done anything like it Quote

I think you are massively underestimating 2003-2009. She did A New Day one of the most legendary shows of ALL time. She still released albums and did proper promo and was in media at the right times for the right reasons. Then 2007 Taking Chances did become big, like she did 3/4 award shows, was in the media for her “return” it sold millions in its first 3 months. Its sold 6 million collectively (more than her last 3 albums combined) and she embarked on the 3rd biggest female solo tour of all time. She rocked the world with that tour and the media was shook. 2 Quote

Taking Chances went nowhere in radios in Europe, and I'm not sure about the US. Nobody played the singles taken from that album, at least in Europe nobody can name a Celine Dion single later than I Drove All Night (2003). It's harsh, but it's what it is after all. If people can't name a more recent single other than one released 15 years ago, something went wrong, and it didn't happen overnight. Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

Not over 50 (because Céline isn't there yet), but all of these have had the same success well in their 40s and mid 40s, whereas Céline had already been ignored in radios by 39: Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue or Janet Jackson. As much as I hate to admit you are right manh people consider her last hit around the world to be “I Drove All Night”. But then again her album after that; that was released was TC and she was 4 months away from 40 when it came out. Also, it’s easier to travel, tour and promote when your a mom of a baby/toddler which RC was in the IDAN era. In that time she still did many international shows like Star Acadamie. Once the child grows up a bit it’s harder because they start school, and start having schedules. Quote

Didn't she Céline abandon her style with ANDHC and OH, and look where it led because of that "change"? An album who was in the talks of every magazine and music review and that received massive radio airplay everywhere? And... what's Céline's style? Does she have one? Or does she self-imposes a style, when in her inner self she's yearning to sing other things? Too many questions, artistically and musically... Very few answers we ever get...
