The woman can interpret the hell out of any song given to her. That is artistry in my eyes. To bring someone else's words and music to life, and be good at it is a huge skill. Any decent singer can get on stage and sing a song. But not all singers can interpret and connect. That is something very special that Celine has.

Interpret? LOL Celine isn’t the one coming up with arrangements.

Anyway, singing covers is the equivalent to doing a paint by numbers. Sure, some may be able to blend and fade the colors better than others. However, it’s still using someone else’s hard, original work. Besides, when Celine covers a song, it’s rarely, if ever, all that dramatically different to the original. It takes more than just belting a note to make a cover version be different.

Why do you still follow her then? She is NOT a songwriter. Plain and simple. There are plenty of “artists” out there that write or co-write their songs, jump on their bandwagon! Why continue to pull your hair out waiting for her to write her material? I guess actors aren’t “artists” if they don’t write the screenplay?

LOL - Selective reading, I see. I said Celine is a darn good entertainer. She entertains me. However, she is not an artist in my eyes. I can enjoy someone’s music and not view them as an artist.

She always said she is a singer. I will start complain if she proclaime herself as a songwriter but never write a song.

And I’m glad you enjoy them and the show!

When I talk about my views on artistry and covers, I’m not trying to make other people all of a sudden hate Celine or her shows. I’m simply having a discussion. Some on here get far too sensitive when anyone says anything remotely negative, or against the grain regarding Celine. It’s one reason why so many have left this message board.

@javito You can moan as much as you want, I usually try to avoid the vicious circle and don't answer you when it's Vegas related. Our discussion today comes from my post praising Britney capacity to gross a lot of money, which you somehow twisted again to complain about Celine's residency.

Regarding recent discussions, if you (or someone else) write saying 2002 was Celine's peak or Vegas has killed Celine's career I will always bring facts to prove how wrong you (and the millions of other fans you claim to have behind you every time you post) are.

The only twist here is that someone posted a picture comparing BOTH Britney Spears and Celine Dion Vegas residencies, then you came to mock her show because of its supposed use of playback and then someone else made some remarks about her "stiff" dancing too, for all which I came to say that we would all kill to see Céline including half a song with such dancing moves, as she did the past tour with Le ballet and Refuse To Dance and we were all drooling and melting. And then you came to criticise the price of her tickets suggesting that it's not justified what she asks for what her show offers, and then I came to compare what the "Celine" show offers opposite to Britney's (and that only judging from the one video that was posted here). We are in a message board, and we compare things, especially when there are more shows on offer on the same city. That's all the "twist" and "controversy" you got :whistling:

Regarding the peak thing, I don't say 2002 WAS Céline's peak or pretend it was the only year of her peak (that's ridiculous), but year 2002 is definitely included in the interval of years during which Céline was enjoying her peak and she was at the top of her game, including the strongest years from 1998 to 2003. But from 1996 and on one could tell her rise was unstoppable.

Since FIY and her participation in the Olympics in 1996, nothing could stop her and everything kept going up and up and the progression went always further and higher. Her peak never finished but when she herself decided to put and end to it, and that only was in 2003 when she voluntarily stopped that progression. But until then, Céline was enjoying the same crazy popularity and peak she had with Titanic during 1998 and 1999, and even with more force: she did two (2) consecutive VH1 Divas Live shows in 2002 AND 2003, World Children's Day in 2002 next with some of the hottest singers around and may I insist that she was called in 2001 to sing for the 11S Telethon, despite the fact she's not an american and that she was... retired and on a break!!! How many more singers are called to do TWO consecutive Divas Live shows, with everything these shows mean (including the millionaire audiences they get and the television rights). If that's not something happening to an artist living the peak of her career, please tell me what is. I'm sorry if you are unable to understand that Céline's peak lasted beyond Titanic, and was even more fierce afterwards because it was only THEN when her presence and participation in all kinds of shows, galas and events was required constantly.

Like I said, if she left in 2000 being at her peak, at the top of her career, it's impossible she couldn't return in any other way in 2002 rather than exactly in the same position she left back then... at her peak.

But whatever you want, manu, whatever...

No one touches Celine in Vegas1f618.png

Well, having in mind Britney has grossed $ 130M by basically going there to walk around the stage while her CDs are played, not a single live song, not even pre-recorded vocals, I would say she is more than happy. And still some people here complain about Celine as an artist...

Who would like to watch a "Stiff" dancing.. she moves like a robot. I remember her performance in NYE where she's up in the tree singing the intro i think it's a slow song at first and she keeps on moving too much especially her arms. Clearly, she's lipping. With the way she moves.. she should be tired to sing lol

I think Hayden Panettiere is a better dancer than Britney. More graceful. They are both a bit short also there arms but still hayden can do much better than her.

Such a long post to keep being wrong, 2002 was not part of Celine’s peak.

It’s so easy to Google sometimes and understand easy concepts such as peak:

“The peak of a process or an activity is the point at which it is at its strongest, most successful, or most fully developed.

When something peaks, it reaches its highest value or its highest level.

Peak times are the times when there is most demand for something or most use of something.”

If it is still not clear, we can take it via PM and don’t bore our fellow forum members :)

Exactly. If you see Céline's career as a product, this would be her life cycle:

Introduction: up until 1993

Growth Stage: 1993-1997

Maturity Stage: 1997-1999

Saturation Stage: 2000 - now

Decline Stage: (probably never going to happen while she's still active)

Her absolute peak was simply the late '90's. Everything after that simply doesn't come close (but is on a whole other level).

At least Britney performed her own songs during her residency, instead of resorting to random covers. That’s artistic laziness in my eyes. Until Celine starts writing (or co-writing) her own material, and does away with the useless covers, she will forever be an entertainer, not an artist. A damn great entertainer, but an entertainer nonetheless.

Thanks for Maria Callas or Frank Sinatra ! Lol

I know having the experience of living the show changes everything, but I'd love some changes like this on the set list:

I Surrender > LET'S TALK ABOUT LOVE

Mr. Paganini > THAT'S THE WAY IT IS

Quand Ça Balance > A NEW DAY HAS COME (radio edit)

How Does a Moment > THEN YOU LOOK AT ME

Medley > ACOUSTIC DUETS MEDLEY: TELL HIM (duet with Elise)/ HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN LOVE (duet with Dawn)/IMMORTALITY (three back up singers as the Bee Gees)

Prince Medley > I'M ALIVE/I DROVE ALL NIGHT

Daydreaming is for free, right?

LOL if they ever actually made any of those changes I'd totally just boycott the show. That's not a dream, that's a nightmare.

To each his own, I suppose.

Plus qu'ailleurs , but now Si c'était à refaire , i still love tant de temps....

And again, that demand and use of her lasted and was prolonged for several years, impressively. In 2002 she was demanded to be in places and participate in events she had never been before. Peak peak peak...

But no thank you. I have a clearly enough opinion about this since the start.

Saturation stage in 2000??? Now that's funny :mdr: Where are we now then???
