Celine (Las Vegas show) [ends: June 8th, 2019] - Official topic

Since Celine's been busting her butt all summer, I'm not going to be traumatized to find there are little (or no) changes in the Vegas show.

 

However, I'm hoping that for this next leg of shows (or, at least, the leg after that...) there will be...

 

(Some of this is repeating what I've posted in the past.)

 

-A new intro video showcasing some of Celine's career/Vegas highlights. The one they've been using is embarrassing and looks so low-budget. Or just ditch the intro video altogether.

-A new Intro song. THE POWER OF LOVE would be divine. Then use I SURRENDER later in the show.

-New costumes. It's time for there to no longer be ANY costumes from when this show debuted in 2011.

-Some more spectacle. Chandeliers. Celine on platforms. Stunning visuals. They can amp this up. Think back to the James Bond medley. Let's get Celine on some more rising platforms / elevators!

-I'm ALL about the jazz section of the show. It's sexy and it still surprises the audience. However, they should change up the songs here.

-At least one of her French hits and more career-focused banter throughout the show instead of talking about random stuff.

-The medley of hits should be changed up frequently. She could choose different songs from her repertoire for each new leg of shows.

-Push MY HEART WILL GO ON closer to the end of the show again. It's too epic to come too early.

-I'm fine if Celine does a few covers in her shows but mix up what those covers are. We were all surprised by PURPLE RAIN. Now surprise us with another one!

-End the show with a simple, beautiful tune that showcasing Celine's stunning tone. WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD or OVER THE RAINBOW were so lovely.

 

I'll be there in November and I know the show will be spectacular even if they don't make any changes. But fingers crossed they freshen things up for us hardcore fans!

 

So glad we don't have to wait forever for Celine to start performing again. I hope she's enjoying some TIME OFF right now.

Guys these are great suggestions ,but don't forget you have your average fans, who just want to got out for the evening to see Celine Dion show, not us Die-hard fans, who make up her fan base you have to remember that ,

Yes but most of the people that went to her concerts this year (the tour) are average fans too. As such, if you know Celine Dion and know her hits, this setlist pretty much got them all and pleased many fans and non fans! So i think a show called 'Celine' definately needs more Celine in it!

I can understand why she picked QCB for the jazz section, but I always found it a bit weird that she didn't pick one of her own French songs. NMQP is a lot more well known outside of francophone people, compared to QCB. But it's definitely time to change that section- even with other jazzy songs. Keep that section cos it shows off the orchestra too but just change the songs, or even one of them! I think even Priere Paienne could work it that section. It could sound jazzy, its uptempo and fun. A like for like swap really.

I believe that she's kinda comfortable with that show, with the same costumes, setlist and the whole shebang that she doesn't feel like making any type of change.

 

A New Day... was far way more attractive for fans because of its evolution throughout the years: lights, songs, costumes, surprises, recordings, duets, everything.

 

If everything goes well I would like to go to Vegas in 2019 for the final year and I would love to see how much this show has grown, how much it matured if it's really about 'Céline'.

 

In the meantime I admit that making changes after a summer tour can be very tiring. I understand her because I put myself into her shoes.

Quand Ca Balance doesn't appeal to any fans except people who fly in from France and then they know who's cover she's singing! I think that song is boring and I want either Encore Un Soir or Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore to make the setlist!!

Exactly. If she assumes that her audience in Vegas doesn't know her French career she could literally perform any French song at all she's ever recorded!

I have been reading a lot of fan reviews of the Live 2017 and the Las Vegas show....and the most recent ones.All commonly say that she has an amazing voice but everyone seems to complain about her talking too much!!Like excessively....and people have written that they want to see her sing and not talk and that the show is a waste of money...I hope this isn't going to cause a lot of damage...

Her show has 4.5 stars overall on Yelp. And lots of people like the talking - these were some quotes from reviews: "This didn't feel like a big Hollywood production, but rather a fireside chat where she genuinely wanted to sing to the audience and give you a glimpse into her life, past and present." For me, Mr. Paganini ranks right up there with QCB and NMQP as songs I hope to never hear again! I love it when she talks and is funny. Love it! However she does ramble and mumble sometimes so if she would clean that up a bit the "comedy" part of her show would come off smoother.

Ha. Those songs are literally THE reason I even bothered going to Vegas. Easily some of her best live work ever.

I agree. I remember that some years ago Herbie Hanconck (I think it was him!) sad he worked with Celine on a jazz song and that he was extremely impressed by the result.

That's it. Specially about her voice. Producers may come and go, but her voice changes. Her pristine, golden vocals of 2002 before she started Vegas were impeccable. Only one year of the first residency of Vegas was enough to damage her voice like never before. And since then, it has accquired a deep tone that is growing more and more each year.

It was "pristine", "golden" and crystal clear too in 2011, at the beginning of "Céline". Her voice was in magnificent shape (I know, coz I heard it live).

When I think of choosing great jazz songs, Mr. Paganini is nowhere near that thought for me...reminds me of something Betty Boop would sing. There's a young singer named Angelina Jordan who sings jazz that I find completely amazing. It's like she's a reincarnated old-soul, jazz performer because she's just a natural. That's the type of jazz I'd like to hear from Céline if it's got to be in her Las Vegas show.

I was searching for Bates Motel soundtrack on YouTube because some songs that were picked sounds relaxing even if it's so old. Then, i saw La Javanaise... Is it a jazz song? This song is so beautiful.. I want to hear celine's version of this song.

And I don't think Céline is the best to sing any Gainsbourg song

Following with the jazz thing, you may know by now that I also adore Annie Lennox, but nobody can deny that when this 360º artist does something, she goest all the way to the full and to the point. Like Céline, Annie had the same inner wish to perform and record jazz songs, and in 2014 she released a jazz album and then in 2015 a DVD with her one-of-a-kind performance of all her jazz songs included in that album Nostalgia (2014). When this woman wants something, she just does it. And she doesn't have 30 albums in the market, not the same powerful position as Céline in the industry.

 

The show was specifically done to be filmed and released on home DVD/Bluray, and the result was just exquisite.

 

Like I say it was a unique performance, not to be repeated, and she didn't tour with the album.

 

These are the times when the differences between Céline and other creative artists such as Annie come as most striking. Annie doesn't tour, but when she gives a performance, the woman goes for it to the best of it. It's a single performance of all the songs included in the album, in the same order of the tracklist. If it has to be brilliant, it shows, and if there are mistakes, they are there. It is what it is. Céline gives a thousand shows one after another, tour after tour, each invariably a copy of the previous one, never with surprises of any kind... and she doesn't even release one single show on DVD.

 

If Céline did something like this, "An evening of Nostalgia with Céline Dion", a one-of-a-kind unique concert full of jazz songs, or rare songs of her own catalogue, this distinctive release on her catalogue would stand out for sure among the rest of insipid DVDs she has with the same old boring performances year after year

But that's the point, Annie doesn't tour. So if her occasional performance bombs for instance it's not really going to impact on her other shows. Because there aren't any. Celine is always doing shows, and because of social media, any negative reaction is out there straight away. But yeah, I think we'd all love Celine to take a leaf out of Annie's book and do a one-off show where she sang album track songs etc, and not one single hit song among them! And yes release it on DVD!😀

I'm not holding on the jazz thing either, but I reckon that a "concept album" in terms of music style would work much better now, than another nonsense mixed bag like LMBTL (God forbid lol).

 

Call it the jazz album, the dance album, the electronic album, the Spanish album... It would come as breath of fresh air in her discography and giving a rest to her old traditional formula.
