Celine (Las Vegas show) [ends: June 8th, 2019] - Official topic

I don't think it's ironic that now that Rene is gone she talks 3 times as much as she did when he was alive--and it's unscripted. As much as she loved him I think he made sure she was scripted. Personally, I think the same damn speech night after night she years ago was boring. I like how free she is now to talk to the audience. That being said, I've been hearing some negative reviews. Someone needs to tell her to scale it back. Don't stop...just cut back on the banter.

 

I think this is a very good point. There's no one directing her now. Rene and then Aldo were either there or watching the show from afar and then gave Celine feedback. As Celine herself said, Rene never told her what she wanted to hear, he told her what she needed to hear. Who is doing that now?

Well, I think we generally agree the talking has gone way overboard.

It's absolutely charming, yes. And it endears her to the audience and brings her to our level (well, ever so slightly!)

But after a while it gets awkward and eats far too much into a show which is, after all, about singing.

Take her 20-min soliloquies, add several costume changes, and you've got yourself a half-an-hour.

Half an hour during which she could be singing an entire plethora of songs we're all pining for.

 

Well, during her French tour in 2013 , she only spoke once. She was completely asleep during the show and looked bored.

A LOT OF comments back then among the French community were negative as she never communicated with the public and found her arrogant because of this.

 

I guess we're never happy. 😉

Re: the talking too much, she talked A LOT last night after I Surrender about Mothers Day and wrote a little song on the spot about it. Before the medley, she talked A LOT. No joke, she went around to each of the band members (starting with Kaven) talking about how white their teeth were. It was actually quite funny. Then a guy walked out to go to the restroom and she said "Where are you going sir? He can't hold the bladder. When you gotta go. You gotta go." I just checked my recording and she talked for 20 min. It's great and fun, but when I think of the fact that they cut "All the Way," "If I Can Dream," "Over the Rainbow," and the "Unison" interlude...

 

I know Céline loves to talk, but maybe we can have a happy medium? Add 2 songs and Céline can talk for 10 min instead of 20?

I can see it now, Celine backstage getting an after show massage having a conversation with herself about how the show went.

 

"So Celine, the show went a little over this evening."

"Oh did it Celine, do you think we have to cut another song to remain within the timeframe."

"No Celine we already cut enough, but I think the talking is a bit much"

"Don't be so silly Celine, everyone know I barely talked, they should hear me outside the show, now that is talking"

I hate to admit it but you've really got a point... honestly, I think she should pick a few dresses and not do ANY changes. Just change the dress up every few shows or something. Gives her soooooo much time to do more songs.

I didn't know love until they loved me back to life because somebody loves somebody!

Celine Dion is an amazing performer, seems very down to earth and has a spectacular, powerful voice. We loved when she spoke to the audience and how she interacted with her team. The orchestra was amazing, the pianist was truly a master, the backup singers were terrific and the male backup singer who sang two duets with Celine was a perfect match!! Her rendition of Prince's "Purple Rain" was awe inspiring!! The staging, images and effects were excellent!! Thank you Celine for the wonderful show!! As a fellow Canadian, I am very proud of how you represent yourself, your children, your family and your country.

The only thing that people need to know is that they will actually confiscate your camera!! The most frustrating thing was that people were taking pictures and videoing the entire show, but I could not even get a single picture!! i always respect the rules and would not have used my camera if told not too and now my camera is not working right.... coincidence...maybe....but I am not impressed....After spending ALOT of money for the tickets I was really saddened by the treatment of the venue staff and inconsistent way patrons were treated. Celine even invited people to take out their phones and at one point I counted 76 phones recording the show. Although some ushers were telling people not to use their phones, those people went right back to recording once the usher walked away. There was a man in the row in front of us who recorded almost the entire show!! The phones were distracting and took away from the show!!

This is just my opinion ok! After reading all of the comments posted, I would like to express my thoughts. Many people say that her Vegas show is boring, with the same songs being played over and over again. Well if you are a fan, as I am, and you almost always know what she did in each and every show, of course it will be boring. People forget that most of the people that go to Vegas to see her are not die hard fans. They just want to watch a great show. They want to hear her sing the songs that she is most famous for. Therefore , no its not boring to them. Vegas gives Celine stability and security. She can be a performer and a mom at the same time ( we all know that being a mom is what she loves the most) Now people say that she talks a lot. Yes its true , she has used talking during the show and singing Sia and Adele as a way to go through the most difficult time of her life. ( how many performers do you know that talks about her late husband, her kids, her life during a show?) With a career like hers , all I have to say is - she is Celine frickin Dion , if she wants to talk , she can talk as much as she wants to!

You know why she is bored? Because the show is now boring.

 

If she will do like ala A New Day again with the dancers, she likes many people around her....

 

You know they can do much better.

 

She'll enjoy it like she did in A New Day...

 

If we will compare her 2011 show to her recent one

 

I'l pick her 2011-2014 shows. I think it's more stable, better visuals, elegance (her recent shows i felt is not that elegant looking anymore)

 

If they will release a DVD for this show. I hope it's her premiere night back in 2011. If you want to include purple rain, the show must go on - bonus feature

 

She needs a creative director like Franco Dragone

 

This is a residency show. It should be better and more creativity.

While I understand this is hearsay, I remember being told by multiple people that he and Rene would go to blows because it was Rene who didn't want Celine to get "lost" during performances of "A New Day..." Rene didn't want masks, and water and all sorts of other artistic elements. So, "A New Day..." premiered with a lot less than what it could have been. While I understood and understand Rene's perspective, he and Celine should not have chosen someone who was part of Cirque du Soleil for their endeavors at the time. Cirque is KNOWN for controlled chaos.

 

 

Where did you hear this? I've never heard anything at all like that.

 

I've actually heard the opposite -- that the initial fan reaction to the early New Day shows was that Celine was *too* lost in the Cirque du Soleil stuff - that people were coming there primarily because they wanted to see *her.* And as the show evolved they made her more central.

OMG she did a autograph during the show!!! When I saw the show in April I thought about doing it but I ran into one problem I didn't have the gut to run up but wow I'm shocked they let him do that!

Normally security is pretty tight about things I bought her a rose in 2016 beautiful rose and they wouldn't let me give it to her :-( I have so much respect for Celine she goes out of her way for everyone and I love how generous she is!! We should make her a huge thank you card!!

Céline got sick in November after Adisq and had to cancel almost 2 weeks of shows

Lucky you! I'm sure you will have a great time. Not sure how she sounded but for me she always sounds good.
