[Charts] The "Encore Un Soir" Era

WOW so far this is doing better than SANS ATTENDRE in every market. And we thought SANS ATTENDRE was a huge success!

 

Sans attendre was a huge success - and I hope Encore Un Soir will be as well. I think Sans Attendre benefited from very positive word of mouth, keeping sales numbers on a very high level throughout the pre-Christmas period. The next weeks will tell whether EUS can do the same - or whether it will burn out more quickly.

Don't you think that a drop of this magnitude would be a bad sign? I mean, of course sales will drop by more than 50%, but down to 30,000? Wouldn't this indicate a weak staying power, making it unlikely that the album will do as well as Sans Attendre?

Not at all.

 

This is the 3rd biggest opening week sales tally in French chart history - that we know of.

 

30k is still more than most sales weeks in France in Q1-Q3 - the market is on its arse for 3/4 of the year, every year and only comes alive in Q4 [Christmas]. So if she does sell 30k next week, and then 20k the week after and then 15k etc - as long as she promotes in Q4, she'll be back up and into the 100k range.

 

She must get the promotion right - at the moment, she's selling based on the tour, based on the single, based on great press and her name.

It seems that also 9 of Celine albums sits inside Top 20 of the Back Catalogue chart.

Amazing results for France. Truly astonishing actually particularly when compared against other new releases. Like Wayne says now it's all about planning for year end. I hope they've planned sensibly.

Also in Belgium Wallonia, four of Celine albums are charting on the Mid Price Chart, including Céline - une seule fois / Live 2013 at #3,

On ne change pas at #5, Sans attendre at #31 and My Love - Essential Collection at #47.

 

And on the Wallonia Albums Chart, aside from the Encore un soir #1, Best Of - 3 CD sits at #99.

 

Also "Pour que tu m'aimes encore" is at #30 on the Wallonia Back Catalogue Chart.

Yes and no.

A steady one every fortnight to keep the album afloat - for instance she has TVs next week and later in September.

But too much would make the general public feeling disgusted (too much is too much).

Most important is that Xmas sales are healthy. so a light touch now and a stronger one in November / December would sound more reasonable.

 

I disagree. They should to some promo with various songs and possible second single because the album is out NOW, not in Nov/Dec (promo then is a different thing). What could make the general people feeling disgusted is singing and milking EUS all the time. As, if somebody didn't attend any of the concerts, he doesn't know any other song from the new album. There has been no real interview about the album itself.

 

Xmas sales is something completely different and something can be done then. But we should focus on the present. And they do very little.

I am really happy about the results in France and elsewhere but as I mentioned earlier there has to be some promotional move, apart from singing EUS only, in order to avoid a big drop in sales in the second week and we already saw that sales diminished closer to the end of the first week.

 

I also wonder how the chart will look like in Poland. It's always delayed but without promotion and with high peaks on itunes it may be very interesting. Still waiting for a single here!

The last French album to go top 5 in Italy was Stromae's Racine Carrée which reached #1 in 2013. Prior to that, it appears as though the last top 5 French album in Italy was Quelqu'un m'a dit by Carla Bruni in 2003 [reached #4].

 

It is Céline's highest charting album in Italy since One Heart [reached #3 in 2003].

 

Her last album to peak higher than #3 was Let's Talk About Love - a million seller in Italy - which reached #1 in 1997.
