"Celine" The Revamped Show

I'm assuming that means you have listened to every single album of hers, right? Because that's really, truly the only way a person could know if said artist has 25 excellent songs or not.

no, it was a joke but i guess with LeAnn , we are far from Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen .

"I surrender", "Mr P" and definitely "incredible" should be the songs to be replaced...

My dream is for "lcmm" to finally f*** off, so heres hoping/praying !!!

What's with you not wanting I Surrender?!?! Everybody loves that song!

It's boring as an opener and it's not performed as great as it was in A new day... And I'm not talking staging and dancers, it's just like she's being lazy with it in this show.

Just feel it should be removed! :)

How about Celine ask the audience to sing the last line of BYLM with her? She always hogs it and keeps it for herself.

Or any of the BYLM lines through the song! 😀

See above post.

She's not my cup of tea so Quebecflower's statement was funny to me...... one can laugh at what they find funny, correct?

This is a set list I find realistic...

01.The Power Of Love

02.Where Does My Heart Beat Now

03.Because You Loved Me

04.It Is All Coming Back To Me Now

05.To Love You More

06.The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

07.Trois Heures Vingt / L'amour Existe Encore / Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore

08.The Colour Of My Love

09.All The Way

10.Immortality

11.A New Day Has Come / I'm Alive / That's The Way It Is

12.Beauty And The Beast

13.Love Can Move Mountains / Declaration Of Love

14.The Show Must Go On

15.My Heart Will Go On

16.Over The Rainbow

Tracks 1-5 are some of her biggest hits, everyone knows these songs and they can work very well with an orchestra. The fact that my list contains 16 tracks (instead of 18+ that she usually sings) gives Celine the space/time to perform these hits in FULL or at least sing the biggest part of them doing them justice. TPOL is a great album opener and in my opinion can be a good opener for the show too. A classic love song that sets the pace of the concert. I think Celine needs to treat this song as a distinct number and not a medley filler.

Tracks 5-10 are a tribute to Rene. His favorite songs are there, their wedding song and Immortality too which they both loved.

Tracks 11-13 are more hits and fan favorites. I believe it's about time to replace RDMH for another up-tempo song. And DOL seems like a proper choice.

Tracks 14-16 show how Celine will go on as a singer and performer. OTR is a very beautiful song to end the show. Celine shows great musicianship singing it.

I don't think that it's realistic at all to think that Céline will sing "Trois heures vingt"... Same goes for TCOML, at least not this soon after Rene's passing.

It is realistic if she decides to go through singing songs with a personal meaning.

It's true that we don't know yet whether Celine will prefer to sing sad/personal songs or go for uplifting/neutral ones.

Βut how great would it be to have Celine stay true to her catalogue and sing an unknown french song to an english audience? Even for a bit more than 1'.

But THV is an obscure song, never a single, never performed live (to anyone's knowledge), and is now connected to the entrance at his funeral...

Yes which is why I called it ''unknown''. And the ''suggestion'' was to be part of a medley so it would last a bit more than a minute.

And this is all part of my bigger wish for Celine to show real confidence when it comes to her original material. It is something I miss from her bootlegs and DVD releases.

The intro of TSMGO is so dramatic, it would be so much better than that video of IDAN.

Definitely a show opener. Which is why I really hope they don't drop this song before we get an official recording at least lol.

Now they revamped the song from TCWT it's a great song. People know it, really enjoy it, and it would give celine a dramatic show opening. Can you imagine the lighting etc? This could be fantastic (not that it isn't already, but all they would have to do is change the imagery etc. Not the song or music for instance.

Exactly! I've never even thought about "Trois Heures Vingt" before the funeral. Why would she all of the sudden want to start singing that now.

I have the feeling that Celine will want to sing personal songs, even sad ones. I think this is how she is going to deal with the sorrow she is feeling. Many people choose happy, uplifting songs when they feel depressed and sad, but others want to express their pain through sad music. And I believe she is this type of person. Based on that I would not be surprised if she sang the favorite songs of Rene.

I would go on to say that there are fans who knew the song long before the funeral but this is not enough reason for it to be included. On the other hand, back in the day Celine would incorporate 2 to 3 french songs that were literally unknown to the english audiences. And nobody ever complained.

What about opening with TSMGO and then singing CNQR followed by WDMHBN?? "Going back to the beginning speech, first french hit followed by first english hit. I wouldn't mind this 😊

Realistically I can't see her bringing this one out to the light. Of course I can be totally wrong on this subject! :giggle:

Hey she's singing Quand Ca Balance, who ever knew of that one! So there is always a little hope for the obscure. :)

If Celine does any show at all on February 23rd, it will a feat of courage and strength and a testament to her love for Rene. I don't care what she sings.

I highly doubt there will be any major changes for the next round of shows, simply because I highly doubt she's going to spend much time rehearsing between now and then. She has other priorities.

I know most people here love Celine and are just fantasizing about their ideal show. But can't we, just for a little while, drop all the debates about covers, dancers, and setlists--- and just unconditionally support Celine for what may be the hardest show she ever has to give -- the first one without Rene?

First, I couldn't agree more with the post above.

These endless debates about setlists are inherently silly and tiring and probably have a snowball's chance in hell. Ultimately my hope is that Celine just sticks to what feels right and creatively inspiring to her, and not what some survey or uber-vocal fan asks for. I'd like to think she has enough confidence and self-knowledge to do what's authentic to her.

But OK, fine, if we're playing this game, I'm gonna contribute, lest it be said that we all want full versions of [insert hit here] or fewer covers - because I'm certainly on the other side of that spectrum.

Full versions of the same old tired stuff she's been singing for decades is a waste of valuable stage time IMHO. I'd have zero interest in seeing a predictable show like that and I think she'd be bored stiff doing it. Yes, there's an unspoken contract that she must sing some of these, but shorter versions mean she gets to check them off while allowing for more variety and more rare tunes (but ones the general public will know).

And I had to restrain myself here, because if I had my way the show would be 80% French! (But I still think the Vegas audience can take way more than 1 French song.)

Anyway, here's what I think would make an interesting set list considering the mostly Anglophone audience, showing off Celine's considerable stylistic range, and with enough 'known' songs for the casual fan.

  1. The Show Must Go On
  2. BYLM / IACBTMN - medley or short version OK
  3. Falling Into You
  4. Mr. Paganini - ONLY willing to lose this one if it's replaced by another one of these jazz classics:
    ,
    ,
, or Caravan (most probably know them as instrumentals, but they're also such awesome songs, would love Celine to do them one day!) But, still think Mr. P is the best vehicle for her fab scat singing.
  5. Moulins de mon coeur / Windmills of Your Mind - to appease all those who want to cut Quand ca balance, could replace it with another Eddy Marnay / Michel Legrand tune, and yes, one that Celine has previously recorded and one the general public will know. Or, I guess could also do Autumn Leaves / Feuilles Mortes as another English/ French classic and sing it in both languages.
  6. Summertime - because the Jerry Lewis telethon version was just so great
  7. Le Ballet / Tous les blues sont ecrits pour toi - medley or short versions OK but ideally with some improv!
  8. Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered or Here, There and Everywhere - ideally both! She does them so beautifully.
  9. Habanera (Carmen) - because she's done it so
. Yes it's French but the average Joe will know it. Especially begging to be done now that she's got a
! I so want her to dust this off!
  10. All by Myself / To Love You More - medley or short versions OK
  11. Nature Boy or First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - ideally both!
  12. Beauty and the Beast / Smile / Cabaret - some kind of movie medley, short versions OK (BATB kinda obligatory, I guess, and you can't argue with THIS!)
  13. Calling You
  14. On ne change pas / En attendant ses pas / Les derniers seront les premiers / Destin / S'il suffisait d'aimer / Elle / L'amour existe encoure / Moi quand je pleure - will take any of these, as much as I'd love all....list getting long! Rotate them.
  15. Water and a Flame or Natural Woman
  16. Refuse to Dance
  17. Call the Man
  18. Power of Love
  19. or
    or
    - because she needs to do some Leonard Cohen one of these days. Fellow Montreal legend. And Hallelujah on Oprah doesn't count, plus that Leonard song is just way overdone.
  20. I'll be Seeing You - This is one that I've wanted Celine to sing for a long time. Too painful now, but I think in time she could do it so beautifully, especially since it's really all about celebrating someone you miss. A more swinging version, like
    , rather than
    or
    more melancholy ones.
  21. Ne me quitte pas - or maybe Hymne a l'amour, La vie en rose, or Quand on n'a que l'amour in its place, or another Brel or Piaf classic. All these she's done in the past, but NMQP is one I could listen to on repeat all day!
  22. MHWGO
  23. Somewhere Over the Rainbow

See! Only two, what you guys call "random" covers (19 & 20). Everything else she's done before and they're songs the casual fan will know.

Fully expecting to be shot down here but not gonna argue it - that's my list and I'm sticking to it!!

Disclaimer: Aware some of these are way to difficult for Celine to sing right now. And it's too long - but my thinking is they should really rotate/ swap these songs in and out on a regular basis. Celine & her musicians are certainly capable of it. And it would mean more repeat audiences.

And as a side note - no Incredible, I'm Your Angel and LTAL please - I think these are hands down some of the most boring songs Celine has recorded.

I agree only with one thing that Celine should stick to what she thinks is right, and not to what some fans expect.

No, not trolling at all. Absolutely serious. I'd be infinitely more interested in seeing a show like this.

And as noted, fully expecting to be shot down, but that's how I like my Celine and didn't want it left unsaid that some of us prefer things other than what's been posted here thus far.

Anyway, leaving it at that.
