I never thought of the English translation for French material, as I understand both languages easily.

 

Anyway, you mean that for example D'elles EPK or 1f&4t documentary there isn't any English subtitles on the Dvd ?

That's so unfair for you guys !

 

Hope like you all that there will be proper subtitling of the upcoming documentary !

Yes exactly, I love these albums, but I don't understand a word of what they say about the songs and during the recording sessions or during making of videos. Thats a big disadvantage. I was so happy when a fan subtitled and uploaded the 1f&4t documentary and I could finally understand what they say after all these years!

 

Those who don't speak French are really missing out on something. And for an artist of Celine's caliber, who is selling her French albums and DVDs even in non French speking countries like Germany, its so important to consider that these fans don't understand French and need subtitles, at least English ones

Can hear them all here in South Africa, thank you Am really sorry that they don't show so many of Celine's audio and videos in the US . I wonder why they do that? It does'nt make sence.

Thank you, both, for your replies. It appears this is probably only happening in the U.S. It would interesting to find out if this is also happening in Asia, Australia, Canada, and South and Central America.

So I majored in music in college and every time someone sang a song in a different language or if the choirs sang something in a another language they would always print the translation in the concert program notes. In fact, I also teach at a public school and if anything is not sung in English we provide a written translation. I don't see why that can't be done with her french albums for us English speaking fans. It would be so easy to include this in the liner notes. Just a thought.

Translation, subs, ect. hasn't been done for all her career so it's not just going to start now. There is a separation between the two worlds. Sometimes I think they want it that way.

 

I just sit back and try to catch a few words, sentences, bits and pieces of what's going on, lol!

Still, I believe that most fans are fan of her English AND French career together (I don't know anyone who just loves one language and doesn't care at all of the other).

As someone above wrote, just giving the possibility to put on English subtitltes to French material isn't that much (apparently subtiling can be done very quickly).

 

I also think of fans whose first language isn't French or English (so they need to learn one of these languages at least), that is all the more difficult for them.

Yes Caledor, exactly! If they wanted to separate her French career from her English career in the past, they should realize that the people who buy her material in non French speaking countries don't give a damn about the French/English thing, they just want to understand what is being said in the videos and enjoy it, and providing optional English subtitles that you can play along or not does not hurt anybody. Moreover, those fans who don't know a word in French will be able to understand and enjoy it, and that's the whole point of buying a Celine DVD.

 

Her team cannot just assume that people who buy her French material automatically understand French. Quite the contrary! As fans, we buy her stuff in whatever language becuase it is Celine who recorded it. And those who don't speak French have a right to understand it too, and shouldn't be disadvantaged and hope for a fan on the forum to subtitle her French documentaries. We don't live in the middle ages, its not such a big deal to commission the subtitles for such documentaries to a subtitling company who will do it within a couple of days

They need alot of equipment to film a quality documentary. I'm sure there's other things in there, millions of Celine pictures maybe..
