Her voice is really powerful in that clip

 

honestly for me - the earlier the stuff the better. Incognito to Unison era are just unrivalled vocally - the sheer power, after that she changed the way she sang gradually over the years to look after her voice but it never had that same raw quality. Those late 80s - early 90s vocals are just from a different planet good. I think the world thinks it knows Celines voice but really for me, unless they have heard pre 1995 celine dion then they really dont have a clue of her voice.

I miss the “fullness” of her lower register… the verses of “Nothings broken but my heart”, “If You Asked Me To”, even a later songs like the opening verse of “Love is on the way”….. UNMATCHED!

I'll probably stand alone with this opinion, but...

 

I know Charlebois' Ordinaire is a Québec classic with a whole history if its own - and it's certainly possible I may be missing some nuance in my understanding of the lyrics - but I always find these kinds of songs incredibly self-indulgent, self-aggrandizing, and lacking in taste; even worse when an artist chooses to cover a song like this. It's an artist putting themself on a pedestal just so they can disingenuously knock it down and plead a "woe is me" case ("I may be incredible but really I'm just ordinary like you! It's just sooooooo haaaaaaaard..."). Stars, they're just like us! Please.

 

I could maybe see a place for a song like this in a biopic or musical, articulating and giving voice to the inner struggle of an artist. But an artist actually singing it themselves in real life? Gross.

I find any artist singing a song about how they’re a “misunderstood star” to be in poor taste. So what if Joni Mitchell did it, too? It’s tacky for her to do it as well. And it’s disingenuous to suggest Céline’s playing a character in the song is a form of remove; the entire reason for her choice to cover that song is for the parallel resonance to her career and situation.

 

Like I said, I assumed many would not be on the same page…
