marc-02 Posted December 29, 2020 at 06:02 AM Posted December 29, 2020 at 06:02 AM (edited) I can't understand why some fans think this single was a bad choice. I remember when it came out it was played none stop on the radio stations here and also on the Vh1 channel, one from the few channels that we had over here oh those days... The song still sound so magical, she gave back at the time crazy promotion for this one. She couldn't look more lovely than she did on this one. "Played non-stop HERE" and by "here" where exactly because where I lived it was NEVER played. 😆 And yes, I think it was a wrong choice to make it a single. We have to remember this was already 2002-2003 and the music landscape had already changed so much. This song was already too "old-fashioned" at the time. Even ballads from other artists coming around the same time already sounded modern and fresh. This was just too dated. I surrender would have been a better choice if they were going for a dramatic ballad. And Sorry For Love if they were going for an uptempo one. Edited December 29, 2020 at 06:03 AM by marc-02 2 Quote

sarit_celine Posted December 29, 2020 at 02:37 PM Posted December 29, 2020 at 02:37 PM I don't find anything cheesy about GTSW, this song thouched me from the very first moment I heard it. The Vocals are top notch, it metls my heart how she pronounce "Momma". The video is simple yes, but the colors, the zoom-in showing her sincere face expressions, her make up, I love everything about this video, imo it's so much better than the IA video IA was a midtempo song so it was just logical the next choice would be a ballad, and it seems that it was important for Celine to choose this personal song to be a single. Yes it didn't perform so well on charts (Maybe on Europe it did better) but that doesn't mean a thing when it comes to quailty. Fans tend to like less a song if it didn't become a hit. This song has "a life of his own", it will always be relevant. It nice to see all the comments on YT and how strongly people are connected to this one, it's for sure a favorite by so many NO Celine fans. 1 Quote "Needed in the chaos and confusion, from the plains to City HallNeeded where the proud who walk the wire are set to fall"

I surrender would have been a better choice if they were going for a dramatic ballad. And Sorry For Love if they were going for an uptempo one. Over here, in Israel. I remember people asking this song on the radio. The next single by Celine that was heavily played a lot on radio stations was IDAN and that's all It's true that from the 2000's and on mid/powerful ballads badly lost popularity and it's such a pity when all this rap/pop crap came into play and it couldn't get any worst nowadays. I need a memory refresh lol what ballads were back then at 2002. If there were ballads that sounded more modern and turned into hit that for sure was by the more young artists. In my opinion they did a pretty decent work with the producion, that is the 'Robert lange' tardemark sound, at least on those times. I guess for the 80's and 90's generations this ballad style feels like home sweet home And honestly I feel this song has passed the test of time. sarit_celine Posted December 29, 2020 at 03:52 PM Posted December 29, 2020 at 03:52 PM Because it's right up there among the cheesiest, schmaltziest, most saccharine, most over-the-top and mawkish songs she's ever recorded. And then it's given the most insanely bombastic instrumentation to beat you over the head with the cloying sentiment, and just in case the first key change doesn't get you, watch out, here comes a second. Ugh. Despite the above, I don't actually hate the song. It's passable. But it was a terrible choice for a single and just reinforced every negative stereotype about what kind of artist Céline was. The musical composition itself isn't bad; the lyrics are horrendous. I don't do sappy. That was quite painful to read lol but I managed to get to the end of your post so it's nice to know that:) After all it's a song that mostly women can connect with. It feels strange though to see and hear that Celine from back then and then to recall she recorded "Baby". I'm still learning to get used to her "new" singing approach, it's a process by its own Quote "Needed in the chaos and confusion, from the plains to City HallNeeded where the proud who walk the wire are set to fall"

The young English lad is nice, but his stage presence (is there a better word?) seems a little flat to me... but at least he’s positive! Quote

Idk about presence, but a genuine reaction and being authentic are important to me. So many others put on airs. I find Nina Schofield and the other young blonde woman great too because they are actually singers who can comment on technique and they check their pianos at notes. Quote

smw Posted December 30, 2020 at 09:19 AM Posted December 30, 2020 at 09:19 AM This song should be much more well-known, it is such a good smooth ballad. It feels like it has Prince written all over it, because it seems like a musical cousin of With This Tear....but I know he didn't write this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sECdHO2hEdA Agreed. I adore this song. And this entire album. Quote
