Always a joy to re-view. Céline's very first english interview, which she learned phoneticly:

And for those of you who always wanted to understand what she said, after refusing the ADISC-award in 1990 and wrote history.

Céline suggested, that the category "Artiste ou formation anglophone de l'année" ("Anglophone artist or group of the year") should be changed into "Artiste québécois s'étant le plus illustré dans une autre langue que le français" ("Most successful Québec artist in an other language than french"). And starting in the following year that category was renamed (and by the way she won that year too!)

The face of Rene when Celine refused the award is priceless! :-D He enjoyed this so much!

The awards tried to mock her by creating this category especially for her but it was Rene and Celine who had the final word. Great video!

Yeah, that was gutsy. Risky, but she handled it pretty masterfully and I think it really served her well in the long run. Think she won a lot of respect that day.

The thing about both these performances is they were before the introduction of "Robot Céline," the FIY and D'eux tours were so magical because Céline was incredibly expressive and unscripted! Once LTAL rolled around she was more "polished" and by polished I of course mean scripted.... I miss the genuine, spontaneous performances.

This is precisely why I so want Celine to do a jazz record. Not so much for the music itself - though I love jazz - but because I'd love for her to spend a chunk of time surrounded by jazz musicians. I think it would be so healthy for her, to see how they do it, how they take a 60-year-old tune and stretch it and turn it upside down and completely reinvent it.

This is why I love seeing musicians like, say, Diana Krall live - because she can take a decades-old song and reinvent it, make it newly relevant, improvise on top of it so ultimately every time it's different than last time. You can see a musician like that 10 times and it's never the same show. It's an amazing skill for an interpreter of song, and I wish Celine let herself do more of that, because when she does she's absolutely great at it. And I think she has a lot of fun when doing that, too (like the clip below, for instance).

It seems Celine usually records to pre-recorded tracks, and rarely actually interacts with instrumentalists in the studio. And that's a real shame. I think spending some time surrounded by musicians whose bread and butter is improvisation could serve Celine really well. Doing more improv would keep these songs she's been performing for years fresh.

To each his own, I guess. Le ballet is hands down my favourite Celine song of all time. Especially the live versions with her imitating instruments. Love, love, love it.

But yeah, I so wish there'd be more than one French song in the LV shows. I haven't gone to see her in LV nor do I plan to (unless I end up in Vegas for some other reason) because frankly I have far less interest in the English catalogue than the French one. But if there were more French songs on that set list I'd be there with bells on!

I would love to hear Le Ballet in Vegas!!! It would so rock in the Jazz section!

I had no idea Céline had sung Quand Ca Balance (at least a snippet of it in a medley) before the Simplement Marnay Gala in 2003!!!! Somehow I missed the whole "B Side" to En Concert

I guess this is the one you're talking about. I just did a little search!

It's the one where a user posted a shirt Clip saying amazing bb5 note ans it was tagged on the actual video. It was posted a day or two before the january 9 performance was posted so I assume it's different

Check out this one,

This is from the second to last show... so that would be the 12th.

The one video is marked as the 9th.

The other one is claimed to be the 11th, but there is no show on that day so maybe it's the 10th. Pretty sure it's three separate performances based on the talking before the high note that I compared. And actually, the periscope video we got of last hour of the show was from 10th (though it's also incorrectly marked the 11th), and I just compared and found that the periscope video is the same performance that was edited into the 30 second clip highlighting the Bb5 note with text on the screen.

To get this right... We now have all 3 performances here? The 2 vids I posted and yours are 3 different dates, right?

Yes, January 9 is clearly marked. January 10 is the periscope video as well as the 30 second snippet that was edited into a small video highlighting the high note. January 12 is the one I posted most recently.

I love this concert. The full orchestra accompanying her early French hits is so beautiful! Her voice was just perfect. I often forget about this one but just stumbled upon the full thing on YouTube so of course I spent the afternoon watching it

A little much needed levity, thanks to the wonderful and amazing Condor! This is a translation of the hilarious moment when Quebec television character Popa posed as Celine's real estate agent. The part with Rene-Charles, in particular, cracks me up:

I didn't dare to post it myself so thank you for doing it.I was laughing while translating it.Claude Meunier is a master at absurd humor and Celine had a good time too.

Thank you so much for translating it!! I can follow French a little, but was totally lost with this sketch, and always wondered what was going on! This was so great to watch!
