Makes sense, if I’m being real none of her other English albums since ANDHC was worthy of being number one. Until this masterpiece!

Easily her best work since 2002. I think this album will go down in history as one of her most talked about and artistic albums!

 

I was about to say the exact same thing. I thought OH, M (if we count it as a regular studio album), TC and LMBTL were quite lackluster. This is why I'm so proud of this album's accomplishments so far. And fittingly, this is her most inspired record since ANDHC.

 

Relieved that if she doesn't release another English album in the next 2-3 years, at least we have Courage to come back to.

OH: Recycled songs from ANDHC. Even the album cover is taken from footage used in the GTSW music video.

Miracle: Few recycled songs as well. And most of the album was recorded in a rushed manner - her voice lacked colors.

TC: Mixed bag in terms of music and lyrics. Several Karaoke covers and various genres to please everyone. And her worst album cover.

LMBTL: Mixed bag as well. Half modern, half dated. Random covers in between. Bedroom voice to make things worse. Second worse album cover. She looked like an emo.

Her voice on “ courage” may contain less reverb than FIYfir example but it’s actually in my opinion the most heartfelt and convincing she’s ever sounded; it works.

I wonder - does she still feel connected to these songs, or has she moved on? Saying this because some of these are 2.5 years old at this point. Nobody's Watching FOMO, Lying Down.. we got snippets (unknowingly) back circa 2017/18, Boundaries was recorded in late 2017. The Chase also 2+ years in the making, based by comments from the songwriters. I bet a lot of the others are quite old, too. I wonder if her head is still in that place, musically speaking, or if she's moved on.

Of course, there's no rehearsal happened. No wonder why her performance is like this. It's like it just happened. You can clearly see her saying Flying on my own to the sound guy at her right.

There was no "sound guy". There was a karaoke-machine-and-lights-and-everything-but-the-bar guy. This wasn't a performance; it was Celine just having fun with all of us.

The verses and the bridge of FOMO sound modern to me. It is the chorus that I find somewhat dated. Anyone else agree?

 

Yeah, I agree. I was hoping for a different version of FOMO for the album. A slightly slower version might have fit the album more. I really like the verses, but the chorus could have been reworked into not a bass drop type chorus.

 

It would have been interesting to hear the song without the bass drop in the chorus, but more of a clean sound just focusing on her voice and maybe just a few instruments before the verses picks up the pace again.

i'm no specialist in the music field, but i find that Celine and all the team who worked on this album should have some recognition.... I listen and really really love it. The last record from Celine i loved as much was D'eux.

Considering that LMBTL is probably her worst ever album, not surprising tho.

That total album was a disaster; now that’s what that critic said “throwing everything at the wall and hoping something sticks” ie: LMBTL vs Overjoyed and on top of that the weird “bedroom voice”.

After listening to this album again multiple times today, I really love love love it with all my being every single song flows, they picked the right balance of up and mid tempo songs with the ballads thrown in. I absolutely love it! On the way home from work I found myself singing to Baby and Change My Mind. I love both of them. Baby has grown immensely on me. It’s just catchy!!! The lyrics are repetitive yes but I think that’s why it’s sticking.

 

I really cannot wait to hear more of this album live. I know in time we will hear so much of it! I agree with Scielle’s sentiment of the curiosity of whether or not her head is still in the place it was when she worked on these songs. I certainly would like to think so because she’s so excited to sing these songs on stage. I’m surely hoping so!

I don't understand why people saying all the song sound the same. Each song is different, unique, and beautiful. The only album that sound the same for me was Shania Twain's Come On Over.

 

Because the production is generally very synthetic and same-y. That, plus there's an overall lack of melody; it's very rhythmically based, for the most part.

Well, several listens later, I have to applaud Celine for experimenting and doing something that's clearly very true to herself.

 

Lyrically, this is far better than any of her English albums, most of which tend to have lyrics so cringe-worthy I have to skip or fast forward through much of them. But this is in a very different league.

 

My main complaint here is the overall lack of melody, and the largely derivative and synthetic production. I like my music with real instruments.

At first listen, a lot of the songs sounded very same-y to me - mostly due to the production - though after a number of listens I've come to appreciate many of those that seemed forgettable at first blush.

 

Lyrically, it's by far her strongest work. Sonically, I don't really hear an iconic standout / classic. (But then I didn't hear one in MHWGO either!)

 

Celine's competitive advantage lies in the ability to deliver soaring crescendos, legato melodic lines better than anyone else, not in spoken word. This more-rhythmic-than-melodic, clipped speech approach doesn't really do her many favours. Partially because of the accent, sure, but it's more than that. It's just not her strength, relatively speaking. I don't care if it's "in". Doesn't necessarily mean she should do it. Many of you have already noted her poor enunciation. This isn't so noticeable when she's actually singing, but quite obvious when she's effectively speaking the lyrics.

 

All that said, I feel the album will resonate and is certainly reflective of where she's at. It's a smart move and shows she's got her finger on the pulse. I'm glad she's moving forward and taking on more lyrically substantive content. It's far more artistically interesting than any of her previous English work, and I can only be happy about that.

 

And, while normally something so long and varied might signify indecisiveness and lack of direction, here I don't think it's the case at all. She needed to do what she did to experiment, and to have a little something for everyone. It's a fine line to walk - she needs to please those who want the grandiose, epic power ballad, and those who want her to tone it down and maybe do something more rhythm-based.

 

All in all, good job Celine! You should be rightfully proud of this work. I hope we don't have to wait 6 years for the next one!

Interesting. Looks like Disney has publishing rights. That could be simply because one of the co-writers is a film/ TV composer and is possibly signed with Disney as publisher. And perhaps splits for that song break down such that he owns majority of the copyright. It could really be that simple. Nothing to do with the song itself being associated with a film.

Ok guys we don’t have to to reduce the value of any other album so that we say that the new album is better .believe it or not but each and every album of hers has a memory for me and I don’t care if it was recycled songs or whatever as long as she sang it with her heart ,so i find each album that she’s done is unique in its own way.so please stop saying worst albums cause the thing is that she’s done it all really ,so it’s a variety of Celine’s voice and touch on every album ,I really do love all her albums ,even miracle project still makes me cry till now or one heart I adore the idea that she was brave enough to try so much modern songs to fit .bottom line as I said she has done it all and all with heart felt and emotions and love so we can’t let all that go with the wind after hard work and so much effort right Edited November 17, 2019 at 05:21 AM by artistman2007

Well, yeah! Not really a sound guy maybe the one who runs the karaoke machine because she was saying “Flying On my Own” at her left.

I was literally stand next to the guy who runs the "karaoke machine"...it was a laptop with Celine tracks hooked up to the "sound system"/speakers. It was definitely impromptu and she wasn't even suppose to sing, so for her to do FOMO with the us was just the icing on the cake. She was probably saving her voice for the Thanksgiving taping also.

I think Celine should avoid having a certain peg when she creates an album.

 

I mean, in TC, she was trying to be edgy and prove to people she can do what Kelly Clarkson and Avril Lavigne were doing at the time. And the result was underwhelming.

 

During LMBTL, it was basically the "Adele" era and you can tell she was inspired by her. The result- she alienated her fans and I read several comments that the album didn't even sound like a Celine Dion album at all. I myself couldn't stand her "bedroom/grandma" voice in a lot of songs in it.

 

But in Courage, it's basically Celine being Celine in her 50's. In short, she's being herself again and you can tell she's so into this project. Because she's not trying to sound like anyone else but herself. Her well traveled self. Flaws and all. And I'm here for it.

I very much enjoy certain songs on LMBTL and TC but this one is just so much more personal.
