Fold out poster has no lyrics. However if it's a foreign version it will probably have separate lyric books but the Western deluxe has none.

I used to think this may be due to the language barrier but I now believe, more than ever after tonight, as hard as it may be for some folk to hear, that Celine's older English material bores her shitless. To me this is why she spends so much time in her shows singing covers. I mean she grew up listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doobie Brothers etc etc. I honestly just don't believe power ballads were ever really her type of music but it was the 90's and that's where she fit in, in the English speaking market at that time with the big voice and all and unfortunately she was never willing to fully evolve before (or was this down to Rene, god rest his soul) for fear of upsetting her fan base, until now that is!! You might find this statement a bit controversial but I believe this to be true and have done for many years.

 

Well, I fully agree that Celine is bored to death by her older material and probably finds a lot of it somewhat cheesy and over the top, but that's what she became known for and what people love. Her fans are generally fans of her music, not the cover music she chooses to sing, which is why it's so annoying when she spends so much time in her shows on them. I'd rather she sing her French music if that interests her more instead of endless bad English covers. At least it would introduce more people to other sides of her music.

 

I think she's also found it difficult to evolve and get good songwriters because she never promotes any of her English music, sings it on tour, or has even gotten out of Vegas for the last 20 years except for 2 world tours to sing them, so why would people give her their good material? They aren't ever going to get any royalties off them if they're never used.

 

Mariah, for one, hates her 90's music (vocal changes aside) and R&B has always been her first love, but since she writes all of her own material, it comes across as much more personal and natural of a change. I actually prefer post-2000's R&B Mariah as it's much more authentic.

 

It's fine for Celine to evolve, but she should incorporate her new material (hopefully she's recorded new material that she actually likes) into her shows instead of the covers. I'd rather hear new Celine than Celine singing covers I have zero interest in. I understand why she didn't tour for LBMTL, but that material essentially got lost also because it was never performed.

I just finished listening the entire album, and it is worth the wait!! Every song has something special about it. Back in the 90s, I really enjoyed the reverb and listening how Celine interpret lyrics in her polished way of singing. And I worried that I wouldn't like the raspy grandma kind of tone or her lazy pronunciation. But while listening this album, none of that came to my mind. And this new tone and way of singing really suits these songs and I do enjoy her interpretation and how she delivers the words.

 

I also find it special and interesting that I find some of the melodies remind me what I would normally expect in Asian pop songs. As a Chinese myself, I like that. Lol

 

I can't name which ones are my top favourite yet, but I am typing all these with a big smile on my face!!

 

Celine, bravo!!!! I am sure Rene is having the biggest smile up there now!

Now that I’ve listened to it a few times, I can fully admit I love each song for different reasons! Each are so uniquely her. I love the western/country sounds in the Chase and Nobody’s Watching, it gives a different sound. (Btw Nobody’s Watching is on of my favs! The lyrics are spot on.) I also think who ever said Lovers Never Die is like LIAWN was right! It’s got that quirky kinda edge to it that I love. I would love to hear FILA live as well as NW. I hope she does Look at Us Now live because it would be so so good after BYLM before the medley, I think it fits so well with that vibe as the part of the show.

It’s just so strange because usually artists tour new albums and present like at least 50% of said album. I don’t understand why she would be exempt from that...because she’s 52?

 

And interestingly enough Mariah’s 90s stuff is where all of her dang hits are.

 

I like Barbra Streisand’s approach which is where she sings a lot of lesser performed and current stuff that she’s done.

Listened the album once, impression-after-1st round: love it overall, but For the Lover That I Lost a bit chewy to my ear (the song actually not that bad), I felt like she got something in her mouth while she sing it Lovers Never Die got the vibe of Water and a Flame 2.0 to me too (Someone said this earlier)

I agree!!! It should have been part of the regular album.

 

''Soul'' has vibes from ''Eyes On Me''' and ''Jai Ho'' from The Pussycat Dolls (two of my favorite songs) but sounds more electronic which is even better. It's so catchy and radio-friendly.

 

On a side note, am I the only person here who thinks that Best Of All, Baby, Heart Of Glass, Nobody's Watching, Lovers Never Die and Change My Mind would have fitted ''Loved Me Back To life''? They fit really well ''Courage'' but they would have transformed ''Loved Me Back To Life into a perfectly coherent and modern pop album if the track-list would have looked like this :

That's so cool! And it was great! A brave thing to come up and sing in a room-full of people who obviously have very high standards!

Did they give you a choice of order, or was it randomly drawn? Because those two who got to do BATB just before she walked in really lucked out!

And it all happened so quickly. I didn't notice her & team arrive at all; suddenly she just appeared and it was such a small space that it felt surreal. Obviously planned but felt very impromptu.

Didn’t get to choose my spot. I noticed they closed the curtains on the far side of the room. And the performance was totally impromptu. I went backstage after Celine left and my friend (the drag queen who did Imperfections) told me she was actually supposed to do FOMO after Celine talked to everyone, but Celine decided on the spot to sing it instead.
