Cameras are not like ours eyes. If the lighting is stronger inside, than the windows would be dark as night. Lighting in and out you have the inside bright and the outside too.

I am not hoping for a Céline song to go number 1 on the charts for x weeks. I know those days are over.

 

What I would like however is that some songs from each new album gets enough attention from the GP for her to add it into her live reportoire. It is so sad that her setlist contains of songs from 20 years ago plus covers (even though she has recorded plenty new songs). So I wish for that + that she gets well deserved recogniction nowadays for her music.

And when I talk about a hit single, I am referring to a song charting high on Billboard Hot 100. And hopefully high on charts of other major markets. These usually follow US.

 

Again sorry for being negative, but I see loads of theorizing in terms of what song is catchy, what song might be a flop and so on. It barely matters. What she needs is awareness. She needs to make the public aware that she has an album out which features moderns songs and ballads. Promoting and performing Courage is a very good option, especially considering how conservative the US market has proven to be. LMBTL sold a career low of 300k copies there. Extremely low. Her only studio album not to be certified. Not even gold. Was its lead single catchy? Yes. Was it modern? Yes. Did it flop? Yes.

 

And this was in 2013. It is 2019 now. Celine is 51. We need to move on from the mentality of Celine chasing hits. Unless we enjoy being disappointed.

Yea I get that. But why would that be ao important for just doing interviews? When they do interviews in high buildings surely they don't have cranes outside with spotlights?

 

They could also close the curtains or don't shoot with windows in the backround.. To me those external lights makes this being just interviews a bit fishy. But I can be wrong. Maybe they are this thorough with shooting interviews

I agree with this. But I also think it is quite a different topic. She can (and hopefully she will) embed songs from the album to the tour. She did that successfully with TCWT. And this will can lead to songs getting the recognition they deserve. She can also perform several songs from the album in TV shows. I think she is trying to solidify Courage at the moment. And it is a good approach. And we can hope more songs will be taken on stage in the near future.

 

On a side note, I will sell my ticket if she visits UK with the current set-list.

So sad but true. She might have good adult contemporary hit here and there as that's her genre and a decent selling album. But even the surprises like what cher had with believe does not happen anymore. If she couldn't do it with ashes, it's not likely to ever happen.

I hear ya. However, I would say she could still get at least a top 10 with this album WITH the right promo/media strategy. I just don’t believe they’ve been able to do that.

 

If they framed it as a Céline comeback...and did a huge one or two day drop of material, videos, etc..

I don't think there will be more singles after LD (which is obviously next since they shot a mv for it) though. That's three singles (four if you count FOMO).

 

Besides even if there will be one single after that - but what are the chances of a 4th/5th single?? - no one will be interested since she has shown with C and LD that she plays it safe with old sounding material (which even doesn't have the "hit feel" like ABM or I Surrender) stuck in her (our?) comfort zone.

 

If she'd released PMLAL instead of C and LD (if she simply must be stuck in old tracks) we might have a totally different situation, coz while that is old school Céline too it has a higher quality power ballad feel to it which might appeal to the 90ies nostalgia.

 

Sad thing is if they still release a "new/cool/modern/current" song after LD, it surely will flop (since she killed all the momentum with C and LD) and she and her team would perhaps conclude that "evolving was not a good idea".

 

Disagree entirely. It is absolutely cringey as hell seeing Céline fans post about this song which we haven’t even heard apart from on someone’s instagram story. Even as the YouTube holding page for Courage music video came on someone posted underneath saying ‘what about play me like a f****** love song!?’ And you say you’re entitled to think it would be amazing after the clip you’ve heard, well I’m entitled to tell you this- No matter what Céline releases will never be a hit. No matter if it’s ‘old sounding’ new sounding, current, upbeat- we live in a world where a ‘hit’ has a 100 million YouTube views or more in a day. Harry Styles, Taylor, Ariana- they produce hits.

 

Céline is doing her thing. We’ve had more promo, potentially more music videos, more singles than we’ve had with an album in over a decade. Why are people so unsatisfied with everything she does? Oh, it’s in black and white, oh she should have released that song that isn’t even on the album! Oh she’s wearing her hair in a bun, oh I don’t like the bob, oh why is she promoting the album on those chat shows, why doesn’t she do Oprah who has retired...

 

And Courage and Lying Down are not playing it safe. She sings Courage in such a fragile way, a new way. It’s a ballad, a song that she is instantly recognisable for. It’s the title song of the album. All of the reviews highlight it as the most memorable, emotional and stand out song. Do you suggest she doesn’t release it? No matter what she does, she won’t please everyone. But as she says, in every interview lately- SHE DOESNT CARE

Even if we ALL saw it on Instagram, What’s the big deal? It was a super short snippet, we don’t even know if this song was great, terrible or just okay. Everyone acts like they were in the studio with Celine during the session and they KNOW it’s a masterpiece, LOL.

I could careless if they release it or not, as far as I’m concerned it doesn’t really even exist yet, maybe ever. But 20 other new songs do, and I highly suggest everyone goes and enjoys them
