"Courage" album - Official Topic

Alone was still stronger single material than C... (even though I think releasing A was not a good idea).

How is she gonna be able to follow this up in a successful way? All eyes are on Céline now, she can perform any of the new sounding songs from the album and they will embrace it easily (Imperfections??). C as a single will just make them yawn and not be further interested in her new music.... It's gonna be an uphill journey from here.

This is an even worse move than LD (also sound old "done that" Céline), which is probably gonna be the next single. I fear the new sounding songs from the album will never reach the broader audience now....

We can only hope more interesting choices follow. courage is a beautiful song but it is not gonna win new admirers. Besides it has already been released. New songs need their spotlight moment now Celine. imperfections is already a good choice- i personally love lying down and waitng for a fierce clip! But who knows what their strategy is...

I have had the time of my life following this woman! Much love.

I love the Idolator review. It's obvious he knows Celine material.

And the best is when he calls her "The Lady of Octaves". :D

I think promoting Courage (the song) now would seem right:

- It is the title song of the album

- It speaks about the recent most personal event in her life

- It is a beautiful piano-driven balad with meaningful lyrics

- Until Christmas, I think the main aim is to win back the traditional audience of Céline, which is more balad-leaning (especially in the US where her casual buyer seems more conservative)

Regarding Imperfections, after the Christmas freeze, as the song seems to have found some love on the AC format, it still have time to slowly climb back the chart in 2020. AC radio have a tendency to play for a long period of time the same songs (sometimes during several months). Hence if this platform likes this specific song, it may have legs during the whole first quarter of 2020, and if successful enough it may cross over to Hot AC in the US, like it seemed to have done already in Canada.

This time I have faith in Sony strategy.

It may not be of our immediate liking, but since September, Sony has been quite impressive I would say, and doing their job step by step.

I agree with you. Imperfections could become her biggest radio hit in decades. Ther's no point in pushing a new song into radio right now.

How ironic, when Sony music finally decides to do a better job… Celine totally ignores the single(Imperfections) with the most potential that she’s had in decades!

I do not think she is ignoring it, it might be better that the song first takes off on radio, and that then she promotes it when it has already some exposure.

If she had been promoting too much already, it would have been wasted opportunities, as the song is a bit too "young-ish" for her immediate public. As we can see for youtube streams, for now it is more the traditional Céline song (Lying Down) that is still leading in terms of views even though Imperfections has an actual music video. Pushing for the later too soon might not be translate in sales immediately.

Céline is not in her prime any longer, and the overall strategy seems more buildings foundations here and there with mid / long term goals, instead of immediate achievements like you would expect for a younger / hyper artist.

Céline is in the US / North America until mid-April at least, we will see then in 2020 if indeed there is some long term planning ^_^

I think Sony's strategy makes sense. The album leaked and most of the hardcore and regular fans are happy and will buy it.

But the older fans probably don't know about the leak and the way to reach them is with a classic Celine song on TV shows.

And in early 2020, hopefully Sony will hit radio with something more unusual and upbeat.

Calm down honey bun.

Maybe she has different hairdos in the video as she does in Imperfections. :)

But her bun IS her crown!

It's weird none of the critics mention her enunciation.

And that's so right.

If Ariana sang this song it would have been everywhere.

So stupid it's more about the one singing it, than the music itself.

Interesting description of “Imperfections” from idolator; saying if the song beloged to anyone else it would be on top of the charts, so not only is fans feel this way. :(

another review from a radio Canada journalist

"The music of Celine Dion finally arrives in the 21st century! (...) "Courage" is the record that "Loved Me Back To Life" tried to be in 2013 but that in the end was extremely disjointed."

The 2 singles, 2+ months since they were released quite run their course. There are 21 songs

so Sony can go "wild" and push for more interesting singles. Maybe they think that C fit more for Christmas time but honestly

I'm not seeing the casual/new Celine discovers going crazy for C and sharing/straming it.

Loved the teasing with her speaking in French for the C video, hope they created something nice with this one.

I think Sony isn't looking to create much buzz around any of her videos and they will play it safe.

I don't think there will be more singles after LD (which is obviously next since they shot a mv for it) though. That's three singles (four if you count FOMO).

Besides even if there will be one single after that - but what are the chances of a 4th/5th single?? - no one will be interested since she has shown with C and LD that she plays it safe with old sounding material (which even doesn't have the "hit feel" like ABM or I Surrender) stuck in her (our?) comfort zone.

If she'd released PMLAL instead of C and LD (if she simply must be stuck in old tracks) we might have a totally different situation, coz while that is old school Céline too it has a higher quality power ballad feel to it which might appeal to the 90ies nostalgia.

Sad thing is if they still release a "new/cool/modern/current" song after LD, it surely will flop (since she killed all the momentum with C and LD) and she and her team would perhaps conclude that "evolving was not a good idea".

We can only hope more interesting choices follow. courage is a beautiful song but it is not gonna win new admirers. Besides it has already been released. Or if it simply was released by an artist who promoted and actually performed it.

For once it isn't the radios that don't play her, the critics that pick on it... it's Céline who is totally oblivious of her single.

And they're ABSOLUTELY right when they write that Imperfections would already top the charts if a younger artists had released it.

In the same time, it's an "adult" song, so....

Sorry but you are talking about a song that was heard briefly on someones instagram story. The truth is we know nothing about this "legendary" song. The ghost of PMLAL will forever be on this forum.

If people had the right to praise LD from the carpool snippet (while the ones of us who disliked it didn't have the right to say so then) I have the right to think PLMLALS would be a pretty nice track judged from that snippet too. 👍

Edit: I can't guarentee PLMLAL is a high quality track but I got the impression that even though it sounds old school it still has great quality (a la HYEBIL). Sure it may turn out to be crap. But that is not the point. The point is that we who liked the snippet is entitled to do so. ☺

From A few second clip of music video of “Courage”, That they showed during that Canadian interview etalk, the video looks very simple.

Celine in black-and-white just singing on a stool, it could work with this song. We’ll have to see!
