celinefan1985 Posted November 13, 2019 at 12:51 AM Posted November 13, 2019 at 12:51 AM Sorry, not buying this strategy. Records have the most traction in the beginning, especially with today’s society’s 2 minute attention-span. The album will be old news in 3 months. Releasing Courage when the albumcontains catchy songs like LAUN and CMM. Don’t get it. Courage, though beautifully touching is BORING and does not represent the Album. Oh well...never understood a thing Sony did so I won’t try to understand now. Disappointing... 3 Quote

Oh well...never understood a thing Sony did so I won’t try to understand now. Disappointing... I think what everyone needs to understand is, just because the music videos being released doesn’t mean that “courage” is the next single. Maybe they just like the song enough to record a video for it or maybe not. So far nothing has made sense, “imperfections” is not performed live in the show yet has a MV and doing fairly well on the radio ?? Clearly they have no idea what they want to do in terms of designating an actual single to this album. That could be a good thing, or a bad thing; Time will tell. A good thing if we get many more music videos from this album! Quote

fred Posted November 13, 2019 at 01:02 AM Posted November 13, 2019 at 01:02 AM On LD it's not her weird pronouncing, it's Sia's that's there -channeled through her. The "throaty" luuurrvee's is classic Céline. The flue-like "lyiii daaaaooo" is Sia influence for sure. I cant stand it sometimes, at times on Lying Down i hate it but considering the reviews and how much people love the song itself I wont let it get to me until ive heard it myself Quote Peace and love to all.

And that is to throw as many songs and videos out there. They know radio won't be a big supporter so that's their way of showcasing different songs/styles without following the old formula (release single 1, promote, wait, release single 2, etc.) which didn't work for Celine due to poor radio support. I like this new formula - and it might help her streaming numbers too. Edited November 13, 2019 at 01:07 AM by Xpresso 5 Quote

scielle Posted November 13, 2019 at 01:08 AM Posted November 13, 2019 at 01:08 AM Cryptic and who knows how reliable, but seems she might be doing a shoot tomorrow?https://www.instagra.../p/B4wA2JDFO_8/https://www.instagra...ies/ony2fr3sco/ ... which means she's already in New York. (Also, that's quite the location. IACBTMN vibes!) He has some pictures and videos of the set-up: https://www.instagram.com/p/B4xySnOlHCn/Looks like it's more likely to be an interview day, more so than another video. And perhaps that explains why we've seen so few reviews & interviews thus far - she's only now doing a press call. fred Posted November 13, 2019 at 01:13 AM Posted November 13, 2019 at 01:13 AM I do ger that Céline wants to start off this album release with a song of Courage because of it's lyrics. It's a statement where she is now first Eng album without her husband and self-empowering message. And if those lyrics had a catchier melody and tempo it would totally be the right move! But considering it lacks that (or isn't even a real Céline power ballad, and for a mellow low key ballad to make it it needs the hook that Courage lacks) promoting the album with this track alone could be fatal for the album. And Xpresso! Love your optimism and really hope you're right on that one! 👍 Sorry, not buying this strategy. hoosierito Posted November 13, 2019 at 01:23 AM Posted November 13, 2019 at 01:23 AM I think promoting Courage (the song) now would seem right:- It is the title song of the album- It speaks about the recent most personal event in her life- It is a beautiful piano-driven balad with meaningful lyrics- Until Christmas, I think the main aim is to win back the traditional audience of Céline, which is more balad-leaning (especially in the US where her casual buyer seems more conservative) Regarding Imperfections, after the Christmas freeze, as the song seems to have found some love on the AC format, it still have time to slowly climb back the chart in 2020. AC radio have a tendency to play for a long period of time the same songs (sometimes during several months). Hence if this platform likes this specific song, it may have legs during the whole first quarter of 2020, and if successful enough it may cross over to Hot AC in the US, like it seemed to have done already in Canada. This time I have faith in Sony strategy. It may not be of our immediate liking, but since September, Sony has been quite impressive I would say, and doing their job step by step. I like this take on things! So exciting! Quote

Popular Post LukeD Posted November 13, 2019 at 01:44 AM Popular Post Posted November 13, 2019 at 01:44 AM (edited) Guys, I am sorry to break it down to some of you, but Celine will never have a hit single again, unless she releases a duet with a hot act in their 20s. Simple as. And when I talk about a hit single, I am referring to a song charting high on Billboard Hot 100. And hopefully high on charts of other major markets. These usually follow US. Again sorry for being negative, but I see loads of theorizing in terms of what song is catchy, what song might be a flop and so on. It barely matters. What she needs is awareness. She needs to make the public aware that she has an album out which features moderns songs and ballads. Promoting and performing Courage is a very good option, especially considering how conservative the US market has proven to be. LMBTL sold a career low of 300k copies there. Extremely low. Her only studio album not to be certified. Not even gold. Was its lead single catchy? Yes. Was it modern? Yes. Did it flop? Yes. And this was in 2013. It is 2019 now. Celine is 51. We need to move on from the mentality of Celine chasing hits. Unless we enjoy being disappointed. Edited November 13, 2019 at 01:48 AM by LukeD 11 Quote

I am the first one to admit that Celine’s time for having a smash single are way over. BUT, if you are going to put out such an “edgy” album, not just one or two songs on an otherwise ballad-filled album as in the past, then go for the jugular and have the courage to release material that represents it best. The problem with Sony is that they always tried to cast the widest net with very “artistically” disappointing results. Best example: LMBTL album. Clearly had no direction or focus. It started off modern-sounding and made a complete 360 half-way in. Edited November 13, 2019 at 02:02 AM by celinefan1985 3 Quote
Chantemoi Posted November 13, 2019 at 02:00 AM Posted November 13, 2019 at 02:00 AM Besides even if there will be one single after that no one will be interested since she has shown with C and LD that she plays it safe with old sounding material (which even doesn't have the "hit feel" like ABM or I Surrender) stuck in her (our?) comfort zone. Sad thing is if they still release a "new/cool/modern/current" song after LD, it surely will flop (since she killed all the momentum with C and LD) and she and her team would perhaps conclude that "evolving was not a good idea". But will the next single flop? Maybe there IS a long term strategy in play here... It makes sense to me: promote “Courage” (title track, traditional, safe) to get her back in the public eye musically, then months later really push “Imperfections” (previously released to appease the fans, and warming up on the back burner) OR something edgier to push the narrative further... I agree, “Courage” isn’t my first choice, but it is definitely one of the more biographical songs on the album that even non-fans can relate to (similar to ANDHC reaching a broader audience of people who were sick of MHWGO). Let’s give it a chance, shall we? 1 Quote

The ballads I suppose, so songs like Falling In Love Again, Say Yes, For The Lover That I Lost, Βοundaries fall under that category. So if we talk in terms of representation, I think they are on a good track with Imperfections and Courage. I would expect them to release something mid-tempo next, hopefully Change My Mind. Αnd I agree LMBTL was messy! Every aspect of it. Also, my post was not specifically directed to you. Theorizing around hit singles is always evident in album threads!
