AdrienneM Posted June 24, 2019 at 03:35 PM Posted June 24, 2019 at 03:35 PM For Ballads, it’s better if it’s orchestra but for uptempos. UHHH NO! IT’S BAAAAD and the new album is a different sound. So, they need to eliminate the orchestra for a while and go back to a regular band like in TCWT/AND How do you know its a different sound? All we’ve heard is FOMO and a snippet of “I Wont Take It Lying Down” (a ballad) and Courage acapella, also, appears to be a ballad, like Recovering... for all we know it could be a ballad album with FOMO thrown in, if its even on the album. 1 Quote

Obviously, they’re going to a modern music. Recovering was just a gift from Pink when rene died but maybe they will include it since the title fits to the album title. You forgot the other song “Baby”. It sounded different too. And don’t just focus on “the album will have a different sound”, enough with the orchestra band. They have done that for 9 years. Nmj Posted June 24, 2019 at 06:17 PM Posted June 24, 2019 at 06:17 PM Does anyone know for sure if the orchestra is going on the tour or not tho? Seems like it’ should be time for the regular band again... I’d like even more backup singers, they seem too low when they perform. If she is going to sing songs like LCMM, And BYLM the backing vocals need that extra “ ooooumph “ that they are lacking. Also I agree he music needs that high energy again, a orchestra is grand for songs like “Nature Boy” that type of song but not for songs like TTWII or IA, or many of the others. However, I’m so surprised how we haven’t seen the original ballad version of ANDHC done with the orchestra, that would be epic with all the strings Such a missed opportunity for all these years of having an orchestra. 4 Quote

fred Posted June 25, 2019 at 02:46 PM Posted June 25, 2019 at 02:46 PM I loved it the way it was in the beginning (mostly, such as Open Arms, NMQP, HDYKTMP etc). That way it was different and something new for Céline. The later versions of the residency was just like any previous Céline Dion concert. And that to me was a bit booring. But then again I'm the type of fan who roots for artistic delelopment and not stagnation. And I do get that many of her fans (in here anyway) is more keen on her staying the way she was in the 90ies. Not sure where you stand though. yaeh, and by the way, I absolutely hated the 2011 version of the Vegas show. It was beyond boring and I was really disappointed and no longer interested. But since 2015 it was finally Celine again! Not like AND, but much better than in 2011. 1 Quote Peace and love to all.
fred Posted June 25, 2019 at 04:03 PM Posted June 25, 2019 at 04:03 PM (edited) I was uber excited when I first Heard Céline was gonna be surrounded by an orchestra for the then new Vegas show. But sadly I got a bit disapointed. To this day I still haven't gotten the wow feeling of her with an orchestra just like Nature Boy Orchestral version - now THAT's an Orchestra to me. I am not too fond of the "old fashioned" way her orchestra been sounding. And an orchestra can sound classic and timeless (and that's a good thing, - "old fashioned" is not). I don't know why her orchestra doesn't do it for me but it just isn't rich enough, not strong enough, not dramatic enough, not soaring enough and certainly not all encompassing - but rather standing a bit behind. And my personal taste screams for more violins and far less trumpets (trumpets and some other brass give that old fashioned feel - some are really fine though like the outro or TR from Tokyo) - but I most only like trumpets in big band arrangements and with sordins (trumpet dampers/trumpet mutes, whatever they're called in English). But then again I've never been to Vegas, perhaps it sounds way better live, but why don't it get through in recordings such as the Tokyo show (smaller orchestra on tour)? I've seen her live on the 2017 tour but didn't get blown away by the orchestra except for a nice arrangement Before TSMGO. Or maybe that wasn't the full orchestra either? To sum all this up I am all for Céline with an orchestra, not just the way it's been this far. I want it to sound like NB (Orchestral Version). And for dance songs of course they can add an instrumental playback. Her ballads (aka 80% of her repertoire) have never sounded richer, fuller and more beautiful. To exchange that for maybe 3 songs sounding better (if they even did what you seem to want) doesnt add up at all, sorry Edited June 25, 2019 at 04:04 PM by fred 4 Quote Peace and love to all.

Can they just play a pre recorded instrumentals that are not available in the orchestra band or can't do on Live version to sound richer and close to the studio.. especially for the uptempos.. Actually, for Ashes the 2nd chorus sounds bland it doesn't have the cinematic bass effect anymore compared to what they did for the 1st chorus, when they reach the 2nd chorus it's gone.. It needs to be consistent like on the studio version. Quote

AdrienneM Posted June 25, 2019 at 05:34 PM Posted June 25, 2019 at 05:34 PM Unfortunately its only a 32 piece, it would be great if she could have an 80 piece orchestra, but not only is it so expensive but also would require so much more space on stage and backstage, as well as more work for the composer / conductor Quote

The arrangements for her songs would just be incredible... I am convinced sooner or later, Yannick Nezet Seguin is going to make that happen. He recently did philharmonic shows with Bradley Cooper, Carey Mulligan, and Helen Mirren. I'm sure the only thing standing in the way of him working with Celine are their respective crazy schedules. 1 Quote

fred Posted June 25, 2019 at 07:10 PM Posted June 25, 2019 at 07:10 PM That was really neat. And I adore that song even though I am not like so many here fanatic about anything she does in French. (Wonderful to see old school filming and visual editing ) I have long been amazed at the dull quality to the music surrounding Céline, especially live. I have always craved for her to be accompanied by piano and strings. I adore the string section of her later concerts - such contrast in quality compared to the rest. Although I find EDM very welcome too, that too suits her voice in a more modern way. This is what I hoped for with the orchestra. https://youtu.be/QS7hnWI0F3k I still think it's a great addition to her normal band. However for the uptempos I think they should use a backing track with some prerecorded instrumentals. Now that Vegas had ended, it's fun to reflect! I hope she brings back some of her other songs. So many of the songs on her French albums from the 80s are absolutely stunning. 2 Quote
