I have no idea whether she used autotune or not in her Vegas show but she definitely made any deffect up with such a wonderful theatrical and visual concert

No idea if Shania used autotune?! If the cd/ live release is anything to go by, she certainly did. Absolutely horrific sounding.

SPOILER ALERT FOR THE NEW ALBUM. Celine has scrapped most of the songs she started recording back when Aldo was her manager and has pretty much started from scratch. Believe it or not but RC has been instrumental in encouraging her to go back to her roots and not try to sound like the new kids out there. When he saw her perform MHWGO at the Billboard awards and saw the overwhelming positive reaction she got, he told his mom that not only were her older fans AMAZED but so were the younger ones. After the failure of LMBTL Aldo, and has I have read many of your comments have blamed the lack of promotion but she did do promotion at the beginning on popular shows including "The View" Jimmy Kimmel, Ellen and the X-Factor. And guess what the album failed all the same.And the reason was that her long time fans did not buy it because it did not sound like the Celine they loved, and the younger ones who heard it did not like it either. The songs were hand me downs from young singers who rejected them. Did any of you enjoy her so called "bedroom voice". If you had she would sing in that style now but she does not. That was a reality check. But because Rene got sick and passed she continued to work with Aldo out of respect for Rene's faith in him. It was not a fit. Celine is a hard headed Quebecoise who will not take orders from a man whom she quickly saw as a third rate Rene on a power trip. Celine is first and foremost a power house voice and a great entertainer, not a manufactured product that will sell records but be forgotten quickly as opposed to someone like Celine who can still pack arenas all over the world. As John Farnham so astutely said onstage in Sydney, people come to hear her sing and not because she has dancers and wild production values that distract from the fact that many young singers today are autotuned and not nearly as talented. Some of you use Cher or Madonna as examples of singers that have successfully reinvented themselves over the years but let's be honest Cher has not reinvented anything, she has gone all the way back to her 60's 70's and 80's persona in her shows (in other words what her fans love) She had great success in 1999 with Believe but remember back then CDs actually sold very well because there was no other medium. Unless you're Adele, you're lucky if an album sells a million copies. The days of a singer like Celine selling 250 million albums are LONG GONE. BTW I know all of this because I was born in Montreal where my whole family still lives and my sister-in-law who is a huge Celine fan has an old college friend who now works for Celine and tolfd her these things and she would have ZERO reason to lie. So expect very familiar songwriters and producers who have been responsible for her biggest hits participating on this album. I was told the album will contain many power ballads, some refreshing yet old school dance numbers with people who are tried and true. For those of you hoping that Celine will try to appeal solely to a younger audience forget about it. She is going back to what she does best and what her older fans have been missing. You know the kind of fan who still buy the whole album and if she gains the respect of a newer generation who will hear real talent and not style over substance that's a bonus. Celine is not 25 or thirty anymore and she should not try to be. Barbra S had her biggest comeback at that age when David Foster produced The Broadway album after flops when she tried to be 'hip' in the early eighties. She did a disco album for crying out loud. She sold millions of albums and won tons of awards for simply and beautifully going back to her roots. I don't know when it will be released but I was told it won't be until Celine is satisfied it is the absolute best it can be. On another note Celine did not reniew her contract with Caesars because she is sick of it despite the fact that they offered her a lot more money because other venues started a bidding war to get her. Celine is not just the Queen of Vegas because she has been there so long and still sells out but because she is the only artist there who has fans come in droves from all over the world, and would not be caught dead in Vegas without her and those are fans who have money to spend. That's the bottom line after all. She is bored out of her mind and prefers touring where the energy level is high and something she feeds off of. So she is not retiring.

Huh? Which one, the last studio album you mean? Or the Vegas one?

 

I've always said I have fish ears to notice playback or voice effects most of the times, but if anything I learnt with being a Céline Dion fan (and especially with her last "Celine" show in Vegas), is that a show based only and mostly on the voice IS NOT everything. And that I may love Celine first and foremost because of her legendary voice, but I do love other artists too who not necessarily have great voices, but they offer other things and talents, and are as entertaining and pleasing as great vocals. There are many other factors to make a show big and to shine on a stage than just being pristine all the time with your vocals (which Céline isn't either nowadays).

 

Céline doesn't have perfect vocals today as she used to 10 years ago, and we all know that. She doesn't sing live a full show and she is resorting to playback bits each time with more frequence and increasingly in more songs now, and the day when she will not be able to rely "only in her voice" and an orquestra and some screen visuals behind her will eventually arrive. And then she will have to resort to other elements to build up her shows and concentrate the attention on more elements besides her voice (dancers, theatricals, props etc).

 

It's just natural, and not only to deviate the attention from her voice all the time, also because her current type of show and formula is simply used up.

I hope that is all true. 😀 The last part is true. I’ve been to Vegas 4 times over the past 15 years (twice I flew from the UK and twice from Florida). I hate it. I’m going in January and will be there less than 24 hours. And that’s still too much time. Only for Celine! I swear I lose brain cells and risk lung cancer every second I’m in that awful city.

No one has a voice like they did 10 years ago. And funny that you say shes using more and more playback when in fact since 2015, shes used far less playback in vegas and on tour. Singing songs she used to lip consistently.

Interesting bit about Aldo, too.

I did get the impression that he was not very popular with some of the crew (probably the 'power trip thing), but I would love to one day hear Céline's account on this. Just generally, I want to know her role in the hiring/firing of employees, as I'm convinced she has a philosophy behind it (she surrounds herself with a very specific type of people, they are clearly not selected on talent alone). Sadly, it doesn't seem like something she'd ever discuss or be asked about...

Finally someone is saying what's been just a well-known secret! This confirms my 15-year activity in this forum and my "ranting/complaining/whining", which after all it was just TRUE .

 

Please let me repeat the key words. Céline is SICK of Vegas. Céline is BORED OUT OF HER MIND of it.

 

Where are all the naysayers who say it was HER choice, it was HER decision, and that she is happy with it??? I hope their denial and scales fall from their eyes. once and for all.

 

Do you really think an artist would choose to be sick and bored of a situation in her career, if she could avoid it? Céline never totally chose this Vegas adventure, but René. And Céline never chose to be sick to death of performing 1,200 shows, BUT FOR THE PRESSURE OF RENÉ AND CAESARS PALACE and the scandalous money they paid her to be there. But Céline was for the money there. She was to please her husband and with a huge pressure on her shoulders to satisfy other people. Not because it was "her decision" or "her choice". PERIOD!

yes i just saw it, it was such a big story, reading it on my computerscreen, missed it.

Anyway, it could very well be true and I think that is where Celine should go: back to her roots - making the music where she is known for, the music people love. No need for a another Rihanna-ish singer or a next Beyonce - just stick to where she is good at. So it may very well be true. Let's just wait and see.

We can compare all we like, but each of their paths brought them to where they are now, some by choice, some because (quoting Céline) life imposed things on them.

Well said. Don't bother with it, Manu is only obsessed with who's singing live and who's not, who's using the more playback on a show and who's using only raw vocals, but he can't see beyond this (sadly)

 

Luckily Shania doesn't need to prove she's an ARTIST with all its letters, whereas Celine is a SINGER with all its letters, but far from what one could call a complete artist.

 

Shania doesn't need to prove she can sing. And besides that, her level of involvement in EVERY aspect of her shows is unquestionable, something Céline could only dream of btw Shania writes her songs, produces, plays her instruments and when she tours she is part of every concept and

(she even won an award for the use she gave to scents in her Vegas show!!)

Well that logic that leaves us with Cher and Tony Bennett.

 

I'd love for her to do something with Tony before it's too late!

Not because I have his music on repeat - I don't, though I do have a print of one of his paintings - but because he's a) a legend and b ) a genuinely cool dude!

I'd love her to do something with e.g. Paul McCartney for much the same reasons.

 

I mean, I certainly don't love (or for that matter ever listen to) I Hate You Then I Love You, but come on man, it was Pavarotti. PAVAROTTI!! She'll always have that on her resume, and let's be honest, that's damn cool.

 

But, I'd rather she not do any of this for a 'main' Celine release; not if we only get one album ever 6 years. Do it as one-off side projects.

 

And I'd love her to collaborate with younger artists, too, but not because they happen to be the hip flavor-of-the-moment, but because they have something that's inherently special and interesting about their artistry. Not because they're a fad. (I will always maintain that Incredible was one of the most dull things she's ever done.)

It would be cool if she discovered somebody super talented and up-and-coming.

Do we know whether they actually recorded it in studio together? Or was it one of those 'you do your vocal track, and I do mine thousands of miles away' things?
