Caledor Posted December 9, 2016 at 05:12 PM Posted December 9, 2016 at 05:12 PM A current producer won't necessarily mean that they will produce something current or a hit for Celine. On TC she worked with Ne-Yo, Tricky, Linda Perry, Ben Moody and they didn't give hit material to her. Tricky produced "Umbrella" for Rihanna and gave Celine such a poor track as "Skies Of LA" is which Celine didn't even know what it was about when she recorded it (she thought about LA and its palm trees). Old collaborators like Aldo Nova or lesser known like John Shanks produced some of the more ground-breaking tracks on the album. So what is Skies of LA about ?? I think Kara DioGuardi did a great songs too? and Kristian Lundin and Andreas Carlsson Definitely ! And you forgot the blond guy who wrote HYEBIL 2 Quote 29.11.2013 Paris Bercy: Sans attendre... the wait is over !

But some parts of the city could look noticeably different in the years ahead. And that troubles some.“I think the palm tree kind of fits with the whole Southern California vibe,” says Jonathan Scott, who manages the fashionable downtown restaurant The Palm. The palm tree may be better symbol of L.A. than many realize. Like the many young people who come to Los Angeles in search of Hollywood stardom, palm trees are not even from here; they were brought here 100 years ago or more from Latin America and other exotic locales. Why? For the same reason that you defended her performing and recording covers all the time Because she totally ignored this song, as happened with many other new gems she records and then she never touches the song again See why I can't defend her doing so many covers all the time? Because of the same point you give about Surprise Surprise I can't say I don't agree with you. But it's not always her choice. She wouldn't be Celine Dion if she didn't think of the marketability of a song or its stage potential. No matter how romantically we want to see things, being an artist is much much more than being a good singer or a good songwriter. You also need to keep in mind the business-side of things. You might have the most wonderful voice on earth but if you don't market it the right way you won't go beyond your shower or local bar. Take MHWGO for example. Objectively it's not the best song ever written nor was it ever Celine's favorite. BUT, would she be who she is today if she didn't sing it? If Rene hadn't insisted? I think (and again....it's only my personal opinion) that it all comes down to this : you either want to be a BIG artist (meaning reach Celine's level) and be able to use that power and that 'platform' to do good (I.e give back, make people happy, give your fans your best etc etc) but accept that you need to find a balance between being artistically true to yourself and doing what needs to be done in order to get and stay there OR keep dancing to your own drumbeat (I.e refuse to do anything that you don't align with 100%) and accept that you might never have the chance to share this with an audience larger than what can fit in your living room or your local bar. It all comes down to personal choice. But please, no matter what I say, don't by any means take it as an attempt of mine to convince you. I really enjoy conversing with you so keep it coming!! I love healthy dialogue and I always come out of it learning something I hadn't previously thought P.s : I apologize for typos or other mistakes, my iPad is going absolutely crazy lately and I'm finding all sorts of errors in my posts Quote

And remove any "Soul Medley's", "It's A Man's World's", "We Will Rock You's" and "The Show Must Go On's" and include instead Surprise Surprise. Or Then You Look At Me. Or I Know What Love Is. People don't expect anything else on a tour than seeing you perform YOUR songs, not songs from others. If an artist includes covers of songs that don't belong to him/her, or songs that are not coming from his/her albums and released material, that's only a bonus for the audience. It's not the normal thing. But with Celine, having her singing more covers than her own songs has become the habit, and seeing her performing her own songs has become the bonus thing, the surprise factor for the fans. That's not normal. Luckily, this is changing today, with the new Vegas show and the French summer tour, but I don't even want to remember how was the setlist of the first version of the "Celine" Vegas show in 2011. That was the most anti-Celine Dion show she has ever put on (ironically, they called it "Celine" ) Everytime she includes a cover in her shows or in her albums (but especially in her shows), that's a chance of performing one of her own songs that is missed. And her concerts usually include not just one or a couple of covers, but several of them. So? What do we do? Edited December 10, 2016 at 01:34 AM by Javito 1 Quote "Hush, now... Nobody is saying that it wouldn't be nice to have her perform more of her songs instead of covers and maybe we will see her do that from now on. But I am afraid I can't agree that artistic decisions aren't often interwined with business decisions when it comes to putting together a tour. You'd be surprised at how much 'politics' and business-oriented decisions are involved in being an artist or musician nowadays. The TC Tour was put together by a team of professionals, being led by Rene. I can't believe for a second that any of the decisions made were random or made without purpose. It's like speed limits...I don't always agree with them but I say to myself that they must have been put there for a reason, by people who know more about it than I do. 1 Quote

Being an artist like Celine (worldwide superstar) cannot only be because she sang the songs she wanted. The extent to a career is also made by some more business-oriented choices, and that can mean doing covers that people love.I'm personnally often bored with covers, knowing that she has soooo many beautiful songs of her own, especially written for her (e.g. the ALT for the posthumous award for Rene). But I understand the business side of being an artist. The thing is, you took the example of MHWGO which is a very good choice. It is a song of her own, not a cover, true. But today, I'm feeling like she HAS to sing this song in every show/tour/residency, not because she wants it, not because she likes it, but because this is the song who made her even more famous, and because, the random fan who comes to see her (not the die-hard like us) WANTS to hear it. This is also a business decision. Nice topic 1 Quote 29.11.2013 Paris Bercy: Sans attendre... the wait is over !

And I think it's not only about the songs Jean-Jacques wrote for her but also about the way he guided her through the recording process and managed to bring out the best of her on the artistic level. He introduced her with a completely different approach in singing and making music. It's a different story when you have more producers and songwriters for one album. They all have seem to have different visions. That's why I think there should be one person who would be in charge of coordinating things. Especially in the process of the song selection for the album. 6 Quote
