I am definitely ready for some 90s style Celine to come back to her English repertoire. It's what made her an Icon. And it's what the majority of fans still want today.

 

The 90s are back and Celine was the Queen of the 90s! So let's embrace that and get another fabulous album!

I don't think she necessarily has to come back to revisit ballads to grab attention. She needs to try something completely new. Hire the best producer they can afford and record a full electronic album, or a dance album, and we'll see where it goes

 

Same as if she released an album of Spanish classic covers, with that voice of her, or an album of Argentinean tangos, with the natural ability she has to adapt her voice to other styles and languages. She would break new grounds, IMO.

 

But more ballads? More (as if she hadn't enough)? People and critics would only compare that album to the previous albums she has released and her biggest songs, and not for the better I'm afraid.

 

However, if she delivers something brand new, like the aforementioned ideas, they (and we) won't be able to compare it to anything she has done before

 

Anyway, I have the unsettling thought that Céline has lost or has not many more ambitions, musically talking, when it comes to explore new music and try new things, as she had in the past. When she gives an interview, she never talks about her next wishes in music, next ambitions, next collaborations or styles she wants to try... Seems as if she just wants to perform live and do concerts as long as her voice is with her, but nothing else beyond that, but recording and creating new music has become very secondary to her. That worries and saddens me.

I'm with you. I'd love her to do something daring, something totally out of her comfort zone. As you say electro pop, synth pop, indie pop tastefully made with great melodies would definitely grab the attention. It doesn't have to be this upcoming comeback album. It could be a side project or even an EP. The only thing that worries me is that some of the best people who could make this work are not sellouts. They work to create art, not to make money. If they are going to be credited they need to make sure it's good. Madonna had few refusals in the past from great producers like Daft Punk or Air. Air wasn't simply happy with the outcome and it just died in the process.

So my point is that it would require Celine to be deeply involved in the process. One recording session per one song is simply not enough for them. It takes time. Things need to be tried out over and over again. Celine doesn't work that way I'm afraid.

but I'd really love to have one of those records in Celine's catalogue ...

That's it. She has absolutely nothing to lose with it, and much to win (for starters, lots of new fans on the way probably). And she can afford it, too. Not everyone in this industry can afford to do the record they want, let's not forget that. And in this sense, it's a pity Celine is not taking advantage of the powerful position she has in the music business.

It seems there really was some kind of big band record in the works several years ago. Aside from Celine's own comments in that La Presse article, vocalist Sara Gazarek recorded scratch vocals for it (see below).

 

I'm not deluding myself into thinking a record like that would be a huge seller (though who knows, it works wonders for Buble and Krall) - but it could do serious wonders for Celine's artistic cred, especially if she actually lets herself improvise.

And if they already have something that's (quite possibly) largely recorded, why not just release it as a side project?!

It's like some already said, she has nothing to lose and she can afford it!

I suspect it's gone the way of the Dodo.

Along with the EUS video and - probably - countless other unreleased gems.

I just don't get why Sony insists on sitting on this stuff. They've already paid to record it! Nobody's asking for huge promo here. Just release this stuff as a side project, if you're so worried about diluting her "brand". Or bonus tracks. Or TV/movie soundtracks. Or online-only releases. Just let us have it already!

Why not release a "Rarities and B-Sides"- type album as a bonus to a main English release? It's a minimal incremental cost. Just think of all the unreleased stuff Sony is sitting on that they've already paid for recording and that many of us would love to have. Forget a calendar. THAT, is how you'd get people to buy a re-released album again.

Must say the ideas we have are much better, and they don't even pay us. ;-)

This unfortunately, I've experienced too. It's actually my worst fear when it comes to Celine. The unsettling thought that Celine has lost her ambition to make more music. Celine is very different from any other singer or celebrity. She's humble and she doesn't seem to care that she's famous, and she doesn't have the "I am better than everyone else" attitude. Celine seems very happy with what she's got. She's thankful for her career and everything she's achieved. I also have a feeling that she does love making new music, I truly believe that she loves it. It's just that she loves being a mother and performer before she makes new music. So it takes time.

I've always been a fan of Daft Punk, and of course Celine. Sometimes I'm in the mood to listen to something different. However, I've never thought about Celine and Daft Punk together, but for some reason I did yesterday. It might be a horrible idea, but I think it could've been good, great actually if done right. I'm not talking about a "Get Lucky" type of track, but something that would fit Celine with a modern sound. Plus, it would probably became a hit. It's something no one would expect, everyone would talk about it, and if done right it could even be her "rebirth" to music. That would be taking chances.
