Stuart2007 Posted December 4, 2013 at 01:40 PM Posted December 4, 2013 at 01:40 PM The Japan edition arrived at noon. Open Arms gets the same treatment as the other bonus tracks with its credits stuck behind the cd tray just like the deluxe version. Main booklet is near identical to other versions but printed on better quality paper than the European versions. Slipped inside is the Japanese lyric booklet. I really love OA. I actually like the simple but modern way the song flows, I don't see any need for a big dranatic climax to the song. Its quite beautiful in its simplicity and with that unmistakable voice. it seems a the perfect way to end the album. 3 Quote

I hoped that the japanese people would deliver a better work with the design and artwork, but it seems I had my hopes too high I thought they would respect the picture behind the CD tray in the standard edition and include the credits of the bonus tracks in the booklet, but... zenmeban Posted December 4, 2013 at 03:47 PM Posted December 4, 2013 at 03:47 PM Rene told that they kept 2 Vegas songs on the album because they had a new arrangement. Open Arms has the most different arrangement of all the Vegas songs, and it's the only one not to be released internationally... And also, this song means a lot to many fans because it's the opening of the show, and it's directly adressed to the fans ("so now I come to you with open arms"). This song should have been featured on the album in my opinion because it's so representative of the 2011-to-present era. It would be like releasing the A new day... dvd without A new day has come. 2 Quote BRICEhttp://s17.postimg.org/7igcotu27/DFGHLK.jpg

LukeD Posted December 4, 2013 at 04:15 PM Posted December 4, 2013 at 04:15 PM (edited) I have listened to the album many times, enough to agree with most of you that the old covers have no place in it. The 11 new recordings ('Water And A Flame' & 'Breakaway' included) work very well and give the modern vide they were supposed to give. The coherence starts fading though once the introduction of 'Overjoyed' kicks in. Bad thing is that 'Overjoyed' & 'At Seventeen' define the second part of the album making 'Thankful', 'Always Be Your Girl' and 'Unfinished Songs' sound dated. This could have been different had they used original, new songs instead of these old covers. All in all, the album would have been perfect for me if there were 2 more up-tempo songs, a dance and a soft-rock one, in the places of 'At Seventeen' and 'Overjoyed'. That said, I must admit that they went much closer to 'perfection' this time than with 'Taking Chances', 'Miracle' and 'One Heart'. I do enjoy this album! True. I hate to say it but Rene is not to be trusted. Truth is they kept 'Overjoyed' in order to have Stevie Wonder in the album and 'At Seventeen' because of its confessional lyrics and easy-going melody (The thought must have been: Since the buyers seem to go for personal recordings the past years, why not include a song that Celine can relate to in this new album?). Both of them are supposed to please her adult contemporary fan base and are the proof that Celine is still playing-it-safe now, as she's been doing since her first English album. There has been no English album in which she tried something 100% different. (Now I'm going out of topic) 'Taking Chances' presented either a new sound or a new lyrical content up to track 7 ('This Time') and after that the 'safe choices' conquered the second half of the album: 'New Dawn' which is an obscure cover taken from the 90s, 'A Song For You' which is like a typical ballad that could have been included in any of her previous albums, 'A World To Believe In' which shares a similar lyrical content with 'Because You Loved Me', 'Can't Fight The Feeling' which is like 'Your Light'-Part 2 and 'Right Next To The Right One' which fails to stand up to the album's title. Same thing happens with 'Loved Me Back To Life'. The album works surprisingly well up to song #8 ('Thank You'), but then it takes a much more conventional approach. 'Overjoyed', 'At Seventeen' and 'Always Be Your Girl' sound dated and 'been there-done that'. (Back to the topic now ) As you said, 'Open Arms' would fit better, it sounds more current than the other covers and more original too. Edited December 4, 2013 at 04:51 PM by LukeD 1 Quote

browseceline Posted December 4, 2013 at 05:11 PM Posted December 4, 2013 at 05:11 PM I feel open arms really fits this album. Overjoyed on the other hand, and at seventeen, completely don't. Esspecially overjoyed. It is like I just turned on another oldie record. So out of place and it is also an ugly song in my opinion.Open Arms got a very special treatment, and I like it. It fits the album like the updated version of Unfinished songs, that I start to like now.Open Arms is the best of the bonus tracks, by far, because it really belongs to the new sound that the album tries to sell us. 1 Quote <iframe width="640" height="390" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hl2XkxnYljg" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>
