I feel her english album will sell around 350k first week, and debut at #1 Are you seriously comparing her French audience to her American audience? Her last major CD release in America was My Love which sold 58,000 copies in its first week - but it was a compilation. Taking Chances is arguably her best promoted album/era since Falling Into You [in terms of the first week promo] and it "only" debuted with 214,000 copies. I can remember when its release date was first announced and there was talk within the industry that it would do 400,000 copies and rival Alicia Keys. And we all knew how that ended up - Alicia nearly doubled the expectation selling over 720,000 copies and Taking Chances halved the expectation selling "only" 214,000 copies. The American audience isn't instantly receptive to Celine these days - if she wants to match Taking Chances #'s, she needs to match the amount of promo. Which I hope she does, as I really want this album to sell over 2 million copies worldwide! 1 Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?

The American audience isn't instantly receptive to Celine these days - if she wants to match Taking Chances #'s, she needs to match the amount of promo. Which I hope she does, as I really want this album to sell over 2 million copies worldwide! I think it depends a lot on the content of the album. I think that part of the reason Taking Chances didn't do that well (compared to others) is that she strayed pretty far from the type of music she's well-known for. I know a lot of people on the forum love Taking Chances, but it is significantly more "rock" than her previous releases, and I think it's very possible that people knew about it, but just weren't interested in buying it. Honestly, I remember seeing the Taking Chances CBS special, and thinking "eh, i don't really like the new songs or the direction she's going in. Why buy the CD?" [i was then in a phase where i wasn't that into celine in general, but i just didn't care for the new music. Taking Chances is still my least favorite Celine album, though I've learned to enjoy a few of the songs] So I think a lot of it is not just that it's "a new Celine album" or that it gets a lot of promo -- but whether the songs are good. (And I don't mean releasing something with Ne-Yo just because he's big right now -- the song still has to be really good). I believe a big part of the reason Sans Attendre sold so well is that it's really, really good -- beautiful music, heartfelt emotion, songs that are, as Rene said, "made to measure" for Celine. So I'm reserving my opinion until we know more about the album content . Quote

Jeff Abbott Posted June 17, 2013 at 05:30 PM Posted June 17, 2013 at 05:30 PM For the time being it's kind of hard to predict the first week sales in the US, it's still one big unknown, just like the album itself. Quote

Kyle_Jared Posted June 18, 2013 at 10:28 PM Posted June 18, 2013 at 10:28 PM these are huge figures. I think she's going to do UNDER 200K. I really do, unless the promo is MASSIVE and the first single is a hit. I see between 150K-165K Quote
Bóól'át'í Posted June 18, 2013 at 11:09 PM Posted June 18, 2013 at 11:09 PM these are huge figures. I think she's going to do UNDER 200K. I really do, unless the promo is MASSIVE and the first single is a hit. I see between 150K-165K I was just going to say that too - these numbers mentioned are huge. We think Celine is a best-seller, but honestly, these are different times in the music industry. The record buying public is small and fickle, and Celine will not cause a buying frenzy. I think even if the promo is huge, the sales will mirror that of Sans Attendre in France where it had legs and was a success over time rather than opening with huge numbers. A majority of people don't buy, instead they download illegally. What helps Celine also is her Adult Contemporary fans - they are a big slice of the pie of music buyers. But even then, that's not a guarantee. I've said before, radio will largely ignore her so sales will also be affected by that. But like I said earlier, these are different, and difficult, times in the music industry. Heck, even big named artists don't even open with numbers like mentioned in people's predictions. So having said all that, it is difficult to predict how much she will sell in the first week and where she'll debut on the charts. I'll get around to that closer to release date. Quote
sailornic Posted June 19, 2013 at 01:11 AM Posted June 19, 2013 at 01:11 AM goods songs sell album. Taking chances had no hit. you can still listen to falling into you but taking chances.... hard to do it. 1 Quote
amelie Posted June 19, 2013 at 08:49 AM Posted June 19, 2013 at 08:49 AM we should do a new topic like this closer to the release date (like 2-4 weeks before release). that said, i'll go with 230.000 #2 (for some reason trying to predict chart position seems sillier than sales, not sure it should) Quote

idroveallnight Posted July 5, 2013 at 10:01 PM Posted July 5, 2013 at 10:01 PM Given that Taking Changes debuted and peaked at #3, a time when Celine was still somewhat relevant considering A New Day was coming to a close, I don't expect this album to debut at anything above #3 unless she promotes the heck out of it, which I doubt she will. Numbers are not important these days guys. What's important is that her music still appeals to us, her real fans, and that she is recording quality music that is true to who she is, rather than being all edgy and collaborating with these young artists to remain relevant. I listen to a lot of music that would not have a hope in hell of being on the Hot 100, but that doesn't mean it sucks. It's multitudes better than the music on mainstream radio these days. The point is what does it matter if she debuts at high or low as long as she comes out with some good stuff? Sure it's nice to be on top, but if she's on top with corny songs then I'm not interested. Let's go back to the days of "Falling Into You." Every single song on that album just blew us away. 2 Quote
QueenCeline87 Posted July 7, 2013 at 02:20 PM Posted July 7, 2013 at 02:20 PM I say 200k or under ....it's hard to tell because we don't have an exact date for release and we don't know who she is up against, in saying that I do think she will go top 3 in the charts! As everyone is saying its down to promo , an AMAZING first single , an awesome video , Oprah special maybe ...The next chapter shows that she does? I do think her shows in Europe will help because she will be around to do some promo. I think the album will build and I do think like they done with SA, a mini tour in 2014 at some stage to support it would be awesome.Oh and defiantly release at least 3 singles from it and good videos to support them! 1 Quote http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-RQtOAL6F2I/TAZl-_MB2AI/AAAAAAAAAiI/bkJK6a44q3o/s1600/celine-dion-goodbyes-the-saddest-word.jpg
Kyle_Jared Posted July 18, 2013 at 02:13 AM Posted July 18, 2013 at 02:13 AM I'm going to lock in under 200K at this point.
