"Parler à mon père" - New French single!

I think it is an ok song if you are looking for some relaxing Celine music to play in the background while you are working or something, but it is definitely not a song that will make people sit up and take note.

 

I've always thought that there are two types listeners when it comes to music. Some people will listen to the medoly first, while others listen to the words first. I think that is why some people think it is a good song, while some of us don't. The words are very pretty, but like some of you said, it just doesn't go anywhere.

 

I just hope that this is not the route they took for the whole album. It kind of scares me considering they chose this as the first single and to represent the album.

Well I don't dislike the song, but yes it should be stronger for a first single after 5 years.

 

But guys, are we sure this has been presented as the first single and not as a teaser/advance for the french album? Maybe they'll come with another song in september or october before the album's release and then thats the first single?

 

EDIT myself: indeed the official site says this IS the first single Too bad decision honestly. In 15 songs there has to be much better options, for sure!

 

Also, I was a fan of Veneruso songs, but I'm starting to feel bored of his 2:59 songs that always repeat the same lines and music with no variation. Tout L'or des hommes was exactly the same as this song. It's like getting a second part 9 years later

 

 

I like the song. She has got enough of songs with high notes. This is something refreshing.

 

Agree. That's exactly what I like about the song, for once she's not screaming her heart out straight to our ears and this is a low-key song. We can have a rest from high-notes belting, can't we?

Yes Davey! Definetly this song should have been presented as a teaser to calm down the hunger for new music and then release another official single with videoclip in september! Because I don't think this song even deserves a videoclip (now Sony will come with one of her greatest french videos ever done for this mediocre song and then forget about the rest of the tracklist )

Carina, I totally get where you are coming from. If I didn't understand a little bit of French, I probably would have never bothered to buy Celine's French music.

 

But it is so funny that you actually chose a Steve as an example. Sometimes when I look at this guy and his career and I see how he just kicks everybody's asses, even the younger artists popping up, it just makes me soooo sad when you look at Celine and Rene's attitudes towards her career lately. He just never stops, he always has a song on the radio playing, and it is always bloody brilliant. He is truly a living legend.

 

Btw, for those of you wondering, he is around the same age as Celine, and if I'm not mistaken he is one of the biggest selling artists in South Africa. He also once said in an interview in a magazine that he sang a duet with Celine. But I've searched for it everywhere, can't find it. Don't know where and when that was.

 

Thanks Claudette. Yes he is indeed the biggest selling artist in South Africa. I think he sold over 2 million. I didn't know about the duet with Celine, maybe it's one of those unreleased songs. And yes, Steve is still going strong, and I think for many years to come.

For me, this song is 1 musical phrase repeated 48 times, surely the worst single of Celine so far.

 

I'm disappointed even though I didn't hope so much when I knew that it was a song of Mr Veneruso.

 

But it's still "listenable" thanks to Celine's voice, even though her singing isn't perfect in this song (due to throat virus ?)

 

I give the song 6/10.

 

I keep hoping for the new album because it seems to me that « Parler à mon père » is the only one song written by Mr Veneruso in this album.

I like the song, just like!

It's something different, I like the lyrics, her voice, but for the rest it's a 'like' song.

Something between the other great songs, nice to hear.

 

But you can't blame them for trying, first we want ballads, than uptempos, high notes. And now they are trying something else.

With 15 songs and 5 months away from release I really think this is just a teaser.

 

We were screaming for something, and now finally we got something.

It's really just to keep us warm, and get the attention.

 

If this song doesn't work, they can and will (i hope) give us something new in 2 months. They have 15 songs to choose from!

I'm sure there will be a song from Luc as single!

The song is "ok" and I adore her french stuff. But I've only listened to it twice (full) I dont think it screams "Huge hit." I hoping the new English single is over the moon good!

 

None the less it fits her french style in it' subtle tones and nuances. Critically it's receiving good reviews. Dont get me wrong it's a nice song and I'll be buying it on iTunes.

 

Right now iTunes france is #24 (only 99C too) and 174 iTunes Canada.

For someone like me, it's such a waste to ignore a vast world of culture outside the linguistic domain of your primary language. The world has so much to offer.

It sucks to complain after waiting so long but I have to agree with most others. The song is just so-so. It doesn't go anywhere. Great for an album filler BUT definitely not lead single caliber (one cannot even compare to SNRQ'une). It's great that they didn't chose any heavy ballad but this song is forgettable ans sounds as though it was recorded and produced in 2 hours.

 

As for the accent, for those who don't know, it's not Québecois and not quite French. It's definitely a little "weird" and "off".

 

Hoping for better material on the album.
