New interview in Hello! Canada

she picked all the songs for the show herself because they inspired her, shaped her as an artist. It's the most "Celine" you'll ever get.

I know Lindsey, maybe it's the show she wanted to do for herself, but what about the public? And what about the fans? What about the songs that are engraved in their brains for decades, do we slam the door to them like they've never existed? Because I feel that's what they've done. We don't know Céline for "How Do I Keep The Music Playing", "Mr Paganini", "At Seventeen" or "Lullaby", we know her for albums like The Colour of my Love, Celine Dion, Falling Into You or A New Day Has Come. Those are the songs in our heads, and that we've been playing in our stereos all the way Do we keep ignoring them, for how long? That's not "Céline" to me, it may be "Céline" to her.

 

You know, surprisingly, these songs grow on people becuse Celine has performed them sooooo amazingly. When i saw the setlist when it was first released, I was disappointed that so little of her own songs were in the show, but then I saw the show and it just blew me away and I can't stop listening to those songs that I never knew before and Celine just opened another door.

 

My favourite in the show is actually "Mr. Paganini" - I love Jazz, and I love Ella and Celine just brought it to a whole new level - it's amazing. I've performed Lullabye myself in my choral group before so that song also has a special place in my heart. Celine takes these songs, takes them to a whole new level, and for a moment, they are HER songs and they're breathtaking. I couldn't ask for more.

 

And think about it, would you want to hear the same songs over and over again? It's nice to hear classics and different styles and hearing Celine's spin on them. I think it's exciting. We just have to do a little homework before the shows and learn the words so we can sing along. And plus, she hasn't completely abandoned her own classics - they're still there, just less of them.

 

By the way, I snagged the magazine today! It's uh-mazing! Such beautiful pictures. Seven pages of CELINE GALORE. A little caption that made me giggle: "Will Celine ever take a leaf out of other artists' books and share her thoughts on Twitter? 'I'm not going to do any Twitting!' she insists. 'First, I don't have the time, and if I ever do have time, it's not what I'm gonna be doing with it."

Well, I'm sure everyone already knows, but Celine has talked about choosing songs and recording the new French and English album between now and December. And for the past two weeks, what has she done? She claims she has been cleaning her house because she wants to lololol.

 

I will try and see if I can get some scans in tomorrow. My scanner isn't working right, but I will attempt to use the one at my office tomorrow.

Well she could sing her 'old' songs in a new way... Acoustic, or just rearrange the whole song...

 

Recording her albums between now and December!!! Her voice is heaven right now!!! :-)

Hopefully we'll get full recording sessions DVDs again! I miss that from her last french cd! :-(

In case you had forgotten : She was on a world tour in 2008 and 2009 (and singers usually don't record new material while being on a long tour), then took a well-deserved break after 5 years of Vegas and 1 year of touring (a break during which she tried a few times to get pregnant), in 2010 a lot of live material from her tour was released and now we are likely to get new songs in English and French in 2012.

 

I think this is quite a lot - and there are many, many artists out there who release much less. So, I don't really understand your frustration and disappointment...

Well, as someone said earlier: HELLO is not a music magazine but a celebrity magazine, it was hence to be expected that information on her musical plans would be relatively vague and short. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if this is indeed all - and this shouldn't come as a surprise.

Did you even read what I said? I said I have no problem singing the "hits" if it meant the rest of the set list was made up of original Celine songs. As it stands yes the set list is frustrating as, in terms of Celine Dion songs, we're hearing the "hits" and then random and (some) unknown cover songs. If we heard the hits alongside songs such as Reveal, When The Wrong One Loves You Right, Prayer, Miles To Go Before I Sleep, Just Walk Away, Cant Fight The Feeling and so on and so on then perhaps we wouldn't mind as much. Currently though every time we hear Celine sing a Celine song it's usually "Because You Loved Me" or "My Heart Will Go On."

 

I agree with you 100%. I would have absolutely no problem if they wanted to include her ''hits'' again (and I understand their reasons) if I know that the rest of the show will consist of her own songs that does not get performed on every occasion. I think that is why the TC tour was great in my opinion, she performed 6 and in some places 7 or 8 new songs. How many covers were there (which she did not record though)? And they included ''I'm Your Angel'' and ''Think Twice'' (in the first leg), which was great. I almost wetted myself when she sang ''Think Twice''. These are the songs her fans want to hear because that is what made us like her in the first place.

 

That's not "Céline" to me, it may be "Céline" to her.

 

I think the title ''Celine'' is misleading, especially to the casual fan. My mom is more of a casual fan and she went with me and at one point turned around and asked me what the heck is up with all the covers. I think if you see the title ''Celine'' you expect her to sing her own songs. This show is as far from ''Celine'' as you can get. A more appropriate title would have been ''Celine does enter artists names here '' (and wow that would have been a mouth full if you see how long the list is). If you think about it it is ridiculous. Celine is an established artist. She is not like Charice who still has to build up a repertoire of her own. The woman has recorded something like 600 songs. At the moment the only song choice I applaud is ''Beauty and the Beast''.

Anyways, I hope Alison asked her the questions the forum tweeted her. I'm curious to know what she said about that. I'm happy that she'll be working on her albums now, her voice is in great shape. Just hope her song choices are amazing too.

But I still believe something will be happen before this year end. This interview is a month old, at least, so maybe plains change, she has a lot of time now till december.

Ya I agree, I think Celine should have more of her great Celine hits in the show i.e Think Twice, Alive, A New Day etc. I hope it will have changed a bit b y next year when Ill see the show again. I wonder will it have ? Although I do hope she leaves in Mr Paganini!!! Best part of show I think!!!! But ya, a regular Celine fan would probably enjoy her greatest hits more than "At Seventeen" where as most hard core fans would have her singing "The Barney Song" and love it !!!! (Me Included!!!! ) .

That's a great idea, seriously, if most of the members of the audience start singing Then You Look At Me during Celine's speech, René will definitely consider including the song, don't you guys think so?
