If Celine, knew what was going on in this topic. She, would be appauld by some of you.

Equally, if the general public who are paying up to $250 per ticket to see a concert of hers knew what was going on don't you think they would be appauled?

Some of Celine's biggest and most passionate fans are on this forum and that is why this is such a passionate issue for everyone.

and yes i know she lips, of course i prefer she sings live! but oh well it's ok for me

i don't really mind if she lips hard songs though cause i wouldn't want her slowly lost her voice over the years lol

but i have to say that i think after the birth of her twins her training has done her good! and keep her voice in good shape.

(I know it was shortened, that's not what I mean, it was modified, maybe they lowered it or made it on a higher key, right?)

TPOL is exactly the same vocals in Live à Paris & A New Day. There is no difference in key. It's just on the DVD recording for A New Day they autotuned all the playbacks as well as the live performances. That's why it sounds slightly different in places, but I can assure it's the same track she used since the start of the TCOML tour in 1994. :thumbsup2:

How many octaves does celine actually have?

Different sources quote different number of octaves. Some say 5 while some say around 3. I think from all the vocal comparisons on youtube, I think its around 3.5, but hey, I can be wrong

In my personal opinion, Celine's voice is at her best in the Let's Talk About Love album. I think her voice is very clear, mature and soft in the album so it fits perfectly each track and sends the right message within every song from the record. :yes:

I agree actually! Her voice was certainly less thin & whiney in the LTAL era compared to the FIY era, it sounds better. In IACBTMN, the big notes are longer and more powerful, just like the later playbacks! :yes:

Coming back to Celine's voice. She used to be a perfectionist. At the beginning of her career, her voice was a rough diamond which she kept on polishing to give in the 90's, beginning of the 2000's the best voice ever.

Now, it's uncontrolled. She just doesn't have that melody and precision she used to have. Worse, she just doesn't care.

and my god, this is just perfection. And you can see she's seeking perfection/melody. It was an art...

Only Whitney at her best had that sound of purity in her voice, Mariah at her best had that kind of smooth melody !

That was the first time they had ever done MHWGO live. The arrangement was too heavy. All performances after this were more like the version we hear today.

You CLEARLY don't understand the point of this. They have lipped on occasion, but none of them have lipped one song 1400 times over a 20 year span, or lipped 30% of there tours.

Whitney has lipped a handful of times in her entire career. It's laughable that you would even compare the two. As you said, everyone has lipped, so don't try to make it a comparison between a lipper and a non-lipper.

A "lipper" , I will define, as someone who lip syncs a consistent percentage of their concerts, consistently lipping certain songs, consistently lipping promo appearances/specials, etc. It's consistent that Celine lips 30% of her tours, sings mostly all her USA promo live, lips all her TV specials completely, and lips mostly everything outside of the USA in terms of promo.

A "non-lipper", I will define....as someone who lips on occasion when they are sick. It is not consistent that they lip the same song over and over. They don't lip every promo appearance they do, maybe on a sick day, or for some other reason, etc.
Lippers - Celine, Britney, Mariah
Non-lippers - Leona, Whitney

I honestly don't know (or care) about Cher, Demi, and most of the others.... point is, there is a huge difference between someone who makes a practice out of lip syncing and someone who uses it on occasion.

Lol Whitney DID make it a practice to lip a few songs on her last tour. Beyonce has been consistently lipping since the destinys child's days.. Christina has always lipped, Mariah has for most of her career. Reba has... the only ones I can say I know haven't are Barbra Streisand and Dolly Parton, whom are alive today I mean. Aretha has, it was all over youtube a couple years back, Tina did on TOTP..

While Celine lips 30% of her shows, she also has longer shows with more songs than many of her contemporaries, especially in regards to the World Tour.

Celine performes live consistantly more than her contemporaries, thus she also lips more. One can say "Celine's lipped 1200 times!" but then I can say, yess, well, she has sang live 4000 times, easy, while another singer has sung live 100 times and never lipped, Celine has sung live 400 times and lipped 100 times. Does that take away from Celine's accomplishments? Really? People have such a narrow focus and are quick to discredit.

Lipsyncing is alive and well in the musical arts industry and has been for years. Broadway as well. Celine's tickets aren't cheap, but really they aren't as expensive as others either. She gives beautiful performances, live and lipped, and it's an experience. The general public are none the wiser and I'm happy to keep it that way. I love Celine's voice today. Just listened to this, and I think it's magic. I'm okay with her lipping some songs and still getting magic from her. It's her life and she is using her brain.

Couldn't agree more. When people talk about her lipping as a percentage, it may sound more than others. But when you actually think about the amount of live performances she does, it's FAR higher than the rest. Barbra Streisand has never lipped a performance in her life, but Celine does more performances in a year than Barbra does in 20! :giggle:
