I disagree. I'm so sick of that excuse being used. There are singers out there a hell of a lot better than Celine who don't lip sync and never have in their career.

Mariah, she's lipped more than Celine

Demi, she's lipped

You CLEARLY don't understand the point of this. They have lipped on occasion, but none of them have lipped one song 1400 times over a 20 year span, or lipped 30% of there tours.

 

Whitney has lipped a handful of times in her entire career. It's laughable that you would even compare the two. As you said, everyone has lipped, so don't try to make it a comparison between a lipper and a non-lipper.

 

A "lipper" , I will define, as someone who lip syncs a consistent percentage of their concerts, consistently lipping certain songs, consistently lipping promo appearances/specials, etc. It's consistent that Celine lips 30% of her tours, sings mostly all her USA promo live, lips all her TV specials completely, and lips mostly everything outside of the USA in terms of promo.

 

A "non-lipper", I will define....as someone who lips on occasion when they are sick. It is not consistent that they lip the same song over and over. They don't lip every promo appearance they do, maybe on a sick day, or for some other reason, etc.

 

 

Lippers - Celine, Britney, Mariah

Non-lippers - Leona, Whitney

 

I honestly don't know (or care) about Cher, Demi, and most of the others.... point is, there is a huge difference between someone who makes a practice out of lip syncing and someone who uses it on occasion.

Lol, the funny thing is that she didn't do that in the 90's....its a vegas habit....she looked so much more convincing in the 90's.

 

You are spot on; in the 90s, you couldn't tell if she was lip synching or not; for example, when I was watching the These are the special times CBS special on DVD, I thought she sang Oh Holy Night Live; if you didn't know her "habit", you wouldn't know because she could convince you easily; however, nowadays if you saw for example, the Christmas special she did at Disney World Plaza Hotel where she sang Don't Save it all and Adeste Fideles, you could easily tell that Celine is "working" the song so ambitiously with all her body movements and lip movements that you can tell that she isn't singing it live.

i can understand that you are bothered with Celine's lipping but, please, don't put Celine name beside Britney....Yes , i think she has lipped on numerous occasion , but for me, Celine has still the best voice. I do prefer her singing live, but i think it's not possible for her to always sing live for a number of reasons (difficulty of her songs, numbers of shows, etc) Recently, i find her voice more human, with a mix of emotions, more nude i would say. Nothing is perfect in life, and Celine has already said: sometimes perfection is not the best.

All this lipping thing discussion is just pointless. Most of the times I can’t tell when Celine is lipping or not, so imagine for the regular public. I have played audios from the actual Vegas show to some of my friends and EVERYBODY thought it was live and everybody thought her voice was better than during the world tour.

 

You know how many concerts Celine gave during the last years? Even if she only sings 30 % live in each one, she is already singing live more than Mariah, Whitney, Beyonce, Xtina, Britney … all together.

 

As long as she is able to sing like she is doing now and record albums I would be more than happy, what’s more, I am glad she is lipping because she is protecting her voice for the next album!!!

This woman has lip-synced songs in her concerts since 1986 (this includes the Phantom Of The Opera musical where she consistently lipped segments).

Her ''A New Day Has Come'' CBS Special in 2002 was 100% live.

Same thing about her Quebec TV special at ''La Fureur'' in 2002 where she performed 100% live ''A New Day Has Come'', ''I'm Alive'', ''Sous Le Vent'', ''At Last'', ''Ten Days'' & ''Have You Ever Been In Love''.

 

Her ''These Are Special Times'' CBS Special in 1998 was also live (minus 3 lipped songs).

I remember really well the first few times I got to know she lipped, and I was kind of dissapointed, but after a while I didn't wanna know about any more songs, so I stoped comparing and said to myself that most of it is actually live. Why focus on whats bad, when u can focus on all the other great performances she's done?!

 

I've stopped watching all those so called proof videos of her lipsynching. You should too.

I said that she CONSISTENTLY lips her specials.... I don't need to even bother posting about all the specials and such she has done to confirm the fact that she has consistently done that. She sang one special live (while singing 1-2 songs live in a couple others)....big deal. The fact that you have to make a post about one special in an attempt to prove me wrong about the lipping is sad enough at how big of an issue her lipping has become.

Those aren't specials. Most of what you listed is a "special" concert that she was invited to as a guest/performer. Specials are NETWORK specials JUST got her.

 

TAST Special - 60%~ live

ATW Special - 10% live

ANDHC Special - 85% live (though some suggest it's 100% live and the others have been dubbed)

TJTWIM - 10% live

An Audience With - 0% live

D'elles Special #1 - 0% live

D'elles Special #2 - 0% live (except on random duets with unknown people on non-album songs....all the songs she promoted for the album and sang herself were lipped).

 

The 4-6 TF1 specials she has had..... 0% live.

 

So there you have it...it sounds like aside from a couple rare occasions, all her network specials for her album promotions have been lipped. Including her last 4 which is enough to be consistent.

Celine's voice has changed in some ways, but in many ways it has stayed the same. It still has great power and a great deftness to it. Her technique is as solid as ever and is coming into play more now that her voice is a little aged. Obviously, she has kept her voice in great condition and it is still one of the finest in music! It has gotten a bit heavier and deeper.

 

Her tone is an interesting topic as well, specifically.
