On billboard.com today:

BACK TO TITANIC: With Sunday (April 15) marking the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic on its fateful maiden voyage, music consumers are turning to related music to remember the tragedy.

Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On," the love theme from James Cameron's 1997 blockbuster film "Titanic" (which spent two weeks atop the Hot 100 in 1998), registers its highest downloads sum this week since SoundScan began tracking digital sales in 2003: 14,000, up 74%. The movie's soundtrack concurrently re-enters the Billboard 200 at No. 155 with a 53% increase to 4,000 units.

The "Titanic" soundtrack ranks as the second-best-selling and second-longest-reigning theatrical movie soundtrack dating to the advent of SoundScan data in 1991. Notably, the top set in both categories in that span - the Whitney Houston-led soundtrack to "The Bodyguard" - has also experienced a resurgence this year, having sold 172,000 copies following Houston's death on Feb. 11.

Here's a look at the albums with the highest sales and most weeks atop the Billboard 200 in the SoundScan era:

Sales to date (in millions), Title (Artist), Release Year

12, "The Bodyguard" (Whitney Houston), 1992

10.2, "Titanic," 1997

7.8, "The Lion King," 1994

7.7, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?," 2001

6, "Grease," 1978

5.5, "City of Angels," 1998

4.9, "8 Mile," 2002

Weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Title (Artist), Peak Year

20, "The Bodyguard" (Whitney Houston), 1992

16, "Titanic," 1998

10, "The Lion King," 1994

5, "Waiting to Exhale," 1996

4, "Bad Boys II," 2003

4, "8 Mile," 2002

4, "Dangerous Minds," 1995

 God how I wish that were true. But no, Celine will NOT be performing in Cobh. (Except through the loud speaker system)

I've just came from the movie!!!! It's ............. so GREAT! I really enjoyed watching it ... AGAIN!

The wide screen makes it so much better! I really missed that. The cinema was full! I was really surprised though almost everybody stood up during the credits:( But MHWGO sounds amazing with such quality of sound! The movie touched me once again. But I have one question for you....

I've been watching Titanic almost everytime when it's on TV and for some time now I've been thinking about one scene which is omitted. And I'm sure it WAS in Titanic. Today I didn't see it either. I mean the scene where they are shooting fireworks calling for help and then IT's being seen from the other ship. Wasn't it in the movie?

I don't know. Good questions. They are airing Titanic on TVA tonight. I think it will watch (mostly for the end, of course!). :)

Del, I find it amazing that you mention that because my english teacher was talking to us about that yesterday! :)

Merci Céline pour ces deux soirées inoubliables que j'ai passées à tes côtés. Je ne les oublierais jamais.

J't'adore Céline.

Merci.

The scene with the other ship, The Californian, was part of the deleted scenes on the bonus disc of the 3-disc DVD released a couple of years ago. It was definitely filmed, but omitted from the final movie. James Cameron felt it ruined the flow of the film. He wanted the focus to be strictly on Titanic. You'll even notice that the clips of old Rose recounting her story are seperated by the entire sinking. The last view of Gloria Stuart happens after the drawing scene and we don't see her again until after the ship sinks.

James Cameron commented on Kate Winslet's recent statement that 'My Heart Will Go On', makes her feel like throwing up.

He said: "All I could think was Celine is going to be p*ssed."

Being far more successful and classy, Celine probably doesn't even care about her unnecessary comment.

I've just came from watching the movie in 3D too! Coincidentally, the showing I went started at 23:30, ten minutes before the real Titanic stroke the iceberg, and the ship in the movie sinked at 2:20 AM, exactly when the real Titanic was supposed to sink under he ocean!!! :ninja:

I was so moved guys, its like watching the movie for the first time. The depth of the picture is so good, and you notice all the gestures and faces of everybody with much more clarity :)

What's about the remastered soundtrack?

There is a difference in the sound ? When i listen the original soundtrack of 1997 the sound is poor, low. Is it rellay better with the remastered soundtrack?

Thank you

I borrowed the remastered soundtrack from a friend in order to compare with the original soundtrack that I own and I don't hear any significant difference.

Is it me, or does someone else find absurd to remaster an album released in the late 90's, and try to sell it as if it had a new sound, when they had enough quality already by then?

I totally agree, Javier. It seems silly. Just like when they said they "remastered" A NEW DAY HAS COME.

Yesterday I went to one of the local cemeteries here in Halifax and visited the Titanic graves. It was quite touching seeing the rows of graves from the Titanic. People had left coins by the headstones and some had flowerts. Here are a few pictures I took. I thought you might like to see them. Also last night I attended an event to mark the disaster. I've included a few pictures. At one point they had a young guy sing My Heart Will Go On. I thought he did a great job. I will try to find the video.

Edit: oh dear... the pictures are bigger then I thought. Let me know if I have to re-size them.

Hey everybody! Yesterday for the 100th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic I went and seen Titanic 3D, and it was very heartbreaking and moving

watching it on the exact day that Titanic sank 100 years ago!

I really enjoyed the 3D version and it was incredible to see it again for my 4th time in a theaters with others! I went with my sister who liked it too.

I think there could have been more 3D effects, but it was not overdone and not cheesy. It had depth and gave a more awesome visual watching such

a classic movie! I have been a huge fan of the movie for more than 14 years since I first seen Titanic and it was really cool to see it again and in 3D

Speaking of being a fan of Titanic for 14 years, I've also been a huge fan of "My Heart Will Go On" for more than 14 years now. It is my favorite Celine song and not only does it fit Titanic perfectly, because it is the movie's theme song, but my family and I can relate our loss of family members to that song.

It was really upsetting when I read and watched what Kate Winslet said about "My Heart Will Go On". It's such an awesome song, the lyrics, the music and

Celine's vocals are the best part. It is a classic, so many awards and so much success, it also helped Kate's career. It did this because the song became just as big as the movie, and "My Heart Will Go On" helped the movie stay fresh in peoples minds, it summed it up, it was the perfect movie song and it helped Titanic's success including helping the movie become the highest grossing film in history for over 10 years!

After Titanic's success, Kate Winslet became a mega-star actress! She is a great actress, her performance in Titanic and other movies is brilliant, but

Titanic is the film that gave her a name, and so many opportunities so for her to say that was very wrong and so rude to Celine and to all of the fans of such a great song!

I hope that Kate realizes soon that instead of feeling that the song has "haunted" her, she will realize that when someone wants to play "My Heart Will Go On" it is because they want to honor her and they relate the song so much to her and her performance in Titanic. Kate could be honored that they

feel that way, instead of "a massive internal eye roll". You should never bite the hand that feeds you, and I hope Kate is now sorry she said such awful things about the song during the promo for Titanic 3D. I hope that Celine defends "My Heart Will Go On" the next time someone asks her in an interview about Kate's remarks. I believe Celine appreciates all the success the song has given her and knows how much it means to people, so I believe that she will defend the song.

I'm excited and happy that Titanic has made more than 2 billion dollars around the world and that "My Heart Will Go On" has now sold more than one million digital copies in the U.S. and counting and is being played and sold again by so many!!

God bless!

no way she said that....

This story is making me laugh so hard, because I also barely tolerate that Celine Dion song “My Heart Will Go On.” It’s one of those songs that gets stuck in your head on a loop and just seems to exist to be annoying. Sure there was something uplifting about it the first five times I heard it, which was within a day or two of its release. I try to ignore that song, but whenever I think of it the refrain is there in my brain mocking me. I always associate it with Titanic of course, as its the movie’s theme song. Images of Rose and Jack in the icy water dance through my head. (I just googled “Songs you hate” and now there are so many other candidates for annoying songs that I’m hoping they’ll cancel each other out. Google at your own risk.)
