justinecoria Posted February 5, 2010 at 10:56 AM Posted February 5, 2010 at 10:56 AM Half the singers in the world would be grateful to have Celine's so called "bad" voice.Actually no. The reason why Celine is still loved is because she's Celine. The same reason why some people think Mariah and Whitney still sing very well. Put her voice on anyone else, and maybe even you wouldn't like it. She's Celine, (used to be the) best voice in the world. When we hear something remotely good, we're like wow. But the thing is that, there's too few control left in her voice : she sings too high for her tone, she blocks her voice in her throat, strains to hit high notes. Before, she probably didn't hit those high notes, but they sounded so perfect, she went with all her voice, and there was one note out of her throat. It was so musical, controlled. And the result was that there was a sound in her voice just like when an instrument gives just one note. Some sort of purity. I've recently watched her duet with the Destiny's Child and it's so obvious. Kelly sings : sounds ok, and then Celine comes with this perfect sound in her voice, that maybe only Whitney had once. Ok, now she does some good things, but when you know that Celine had this best voice ever that to me overshadowed anyone present or past, I just remain a little frustrated. Quote
stevo Posted February 5, 2010 at 11:07 AM Posted February 5, 2010 at 11:07 AM (edited) But can really expect this level of perfection and purity after so many years of singing and an admittance from her that she can't be bothered training her voice, resting it etc as she used to? If a sprinter doesn't train, they won't run as fast- with Celine, her voice will simply change. It wn't have the clarity or even the range. I think 'Alone' was amazing on the tour- nasal at the start but lots of very powerful chest singing and flexibility in her voice. I dare Whitney or Mariah to sing it like Celine can- she's till got it. Edited February 5, 2010 at 11:08 AM by stevo Quote
thevoice Posted February 5, 2010 at 11:21 AM Posted February 5, 2010 at 11:21 AM i just have to say something - i read some of the posts here and as someone who criticized celine's voice more than anyone else here - i think she did an amazing job. celine will never sound like she used to in the 90's - forget about it. she is 40+, she doesn't care that much about her voice anymore and yes it became less clear and for sure less controlled. however, i do not know alot of divas from the 90's era who can still sound like celine and hit those notes with so much confident. she redcorded that song while everyone was watching her..the media, the other singers - she couldn't care less. also, her part was really high, i'm sure it could be much more powerful and clear if the key was a bit lower. and after reading that lionel actually asked her to sound raspy and raw - i think we have nothing to worry about. Claudette Posted February 5, 2010 at 11:21 AM Posted February 5, 2010 at 11:21 AM she blocks her voice in her throat WTF does that even mean? What the hell is going on with people on this forum this week. Everyone is complaing about everything! I'm sorry to say this, but right now I am ashamed to call myself a member of this forum... If Celine or Rene read the comments on this forum from the last week and they decide to just drop everything and do nothing new, I will not blame them... Talk about spoiling someone's fun. I think people has always insisted so much with her high note ballads that she become obssesed with these kind of songs, so she is always singing too high even when its not suitable or appropiate for the song. But the voice is still there, I have no doubts today. I doubted it in 2004 because of the crazy Vegas pace (I still do believe that concerts were almost ruining her voice every night), but when the world tour began I soon realized she still had that great voice inside. She was happy doing this world tour, and you could see this in her face and voice Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

I dare Whitney or Mariah to sing it like Celine can- she's till got it. I have not heard Mariah sing live lately but I definitely can say Whitney has lost it, even on her latest album. My main concern is that if Céline doesn't keep to her proper vocal regime (apart from the "not talking the whole day before performance" thing ) and keeps straining her voice, she can end up damaging her vocal cords in the long run, which is really not good for a singer... I do believe she COULD sing one day like she used in the 90's, and when she records and album in the studio you can still hear that voice (listen TC closely!). BUT at the same time I can see that another Vegas is NOT the way to see her singing like that again . She gives her best out of her when she sings for pleasure, because she wants to, and not when she has to because of a contract (and there's when all that lipsynch nightmare comes, but I won't go over that no way -I'm tired too!- ) Maybe she's going back to Vegas again because she wants to please us (I wouldn't doubt that to be her intentions ). She doesn't have a baby today to stick to the reason that "she wants her newborn to have a balance and grow in one place", so there are no excuses today to do an "A New Day part II". Well I can only think of two reasons: 1) Because she wants to please her fans and she thinks we'd love to see her back there 2) MONEY! 3) Because she wants to please René as it would be him the one who wants to go back there to waste all the money she wins in the casinos. We know he's has an addiction with gambling, so I wouldn't be surprised if Céline is trying to please him going back to the game capital in the world . I will be mad if this is the reason behing But she should know she doesn't need to go there again to please us, if thats the only reason! Just rest at home and keep doing records but promoting the songs we like to hear, and singing in the TV from time to time. Is that simple.... but yet she doesn't know about what we want (Sorry Tere and everyone for going again over offtopic with the Vegas thing, but these days we are mixing every news with each other inebitably ) Quote "Hush, now... pat200 Posted February 5, 2010 at 12:40 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 12:40 PM well even though celine's voice isn't as perfect as it was 15years ago, she still has the best non-classical voice out there. she is working her #ss off and every time we find something to criticize. i for one am very grateful that she is still singing and releasing material. sure in the last few years i have hoped for other directions and other projects, but still anything celine is better than nothing celine. just my 2 cents Quote
Céline's Blues Posted February 5, 2010 at 01:07 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 01:07 PM (edited) We all have a right to point out when a woman who earned like almost 1 BILLION dollars in the last 10 years can't even deliver one proper note. Especially considering she has been saving her voice like HELL - 3/4 of her last tour and her Vegas show were not sung live. Simple as that. That alone should account for the preservation of her voice but apparently it didn't. She will be making it even without our criticism very well, thank you very much, but it's important not to forget that Céline Dion fans should not settle for less. She still has very high vocal standards and one should expect them to be upheld - no matter whether she's 40 where actually a woman's voice should mature 100% and be completely capable to soar IF and only IF it's taken proper care of. smash Posted February 5, 2010 at 02:11 PM Posted February 5, 2010 at 02:11 PM wow, she totally looks pregnant. As tiny and slim as ever, but pregnant. She's wearing a floaty top, but its clear to see that her chest area is pretty decent. Much more decent than its ever been before! Doesn't help that the top is pretty see through! whoops! That will have kept the men happy for the day! I hope she is, and its not just wishful thinking on my part.My thoughts exactly, her boobs are DEFINATELY bigger, and look at a couple of the pics at her tummy, how that is sticking out from her chest. Her tummy is Out, more than how she normally is, and the huge red scarf is always covering her tummy. I've got this feeling she IS pregnant. Our girl looks preggies, oh, i SOOOOO hope she is. LOVE YOU SO SO MUCH CELINE.  Quote

I was going to form an essay as to why your earlier statements seemed a bit biased, but then I came across this, and realised that actually - you hit the nail on the head here. Celine sounds like Celine wants to sound; if she wants an easy night, she'll have the melody altered, the music quieter and the key lowered. If she wants to go all out, then she will. She is nowadays first and foremost, a wife and mother - which is how she's always wanted it. She still ADORES her fans, as proven most recently when she stopped outside of Oprah's studio and photographed with all of them, and signed autographs etc. I LONG for the Celine of 2002; her tone was SO mature, and her range was SO huge, but she KNEW how to use her voice. I think Vegas has taught her some shortcuts, and now her control has definitely weakened. And she has to be careful because losing control of the voice is one of the reasons Whitney can no longer belt. Celine is STILL amongst the upper-echelon of female singers in the world - no actually, I'm gonna go out on a (biased) limb and title her 'THE BEST SINGER IN THE WORLD'. However, its up to her to keep that title - she needs to regain her voice training, techniques etc and control her belting. Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?
