winforlife Posted February 4, 2010 at 03:27 AM Posted February 4, 2010 at 03:27 AM I did listen and even tape this part. It was Patti Austin who talked about that. Mary Hart was saying Austin said Céline was great but almost put them behind schedule by listening to her part over and over again. Austin :"She's sitting there(Celine) rockin out...and I want to go (Austin miming struggling her with both hands, smilling though). But you know a couple of minutes before that, Mary said : "Also inside Patti Austin who worked with Barbra. How many take did Streisand needs?" to Austin. Austin : "As many as she wants(laught). In this case it was about two or three."So I may be wrong but I thought Austin was probably a litle biais here, being a friend and/or a fan of Barbra. Just my two cent, I don't really know why she said that. Apparently so many found Céline really great(even Austin)...SO great maybe that Austin felt the need to tell something to bad mouth Céline a little here Ahh.. I believe that is already a biased point of view... I am glad to read that I wasn't the only one slightly annoyed by Austen's remarks. Why was this broadcast since no one else seemed to be complaining? I wonder if there is an ET bias towards Céline as well. Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v119/LKlafter1/1367035680_small.jpg

I don't know what's doing Céline but why Will.i.am looks so pissed of?? In every video I've seen him in, he looks pissed! That also crossed my mind since she seems to have given more "exclusives" I think to Access Hollywood(and Nancy O'Dell) in past years. Who knows? Quote

justinecoria Posted February 4, 2010 at 10:14 AM Posted February 4, 2010 at 10:14 AM Mmhhh. People have to understand that Celine isn't that good anymore. They shouldn't have given her that part. There was a time where she could be considered as the best voice ever : it was so pure, crispy, powerful and controlled. She sounded so great with the Franklin, Destiny's Child, Patrick Bruel, JJG, Bruno Pelletier, Carol Frederics and so many more. Now it just ain't the case, it's raspy, strained, hoarse and shouts, strains to hit high notes. And I hate it when she thinks that the hoarseness gives more emotion to her voice. Quote

I've been thinking that for the last 4 years, not with hoarseness but with shouting everytime She thinks that people love her crazy high notes everytime on every song, and at least in my case, is not like that, her voice can do many other things rather than high notes all the time! The hoarseness does give her performances more emotion. Loved the turn her voice had after she came back in 2002! It was swell, more mature, less cold. However, I must say I am anything but fond of the howling like a dog sound she's seemd to pick up, especially since the screaming fest of the TC tour, but also now. I know Beyonce has always done this and got applauded for it, for reasons beyond me. It sounds horrible to say the least. Noticed Usher did it also during his last solo on Earth Song. But I see no reason for Céline following that junk yard dog howling. She sounds so good when she doesn't do it, so why she should take it on beats me. Hope she steps out of it soon. /fred Quote Peace and love to all.

maceta_biloxi Posted February 4, 2010 at 03:53 PM Posted February 4, 2010 at 03:53 PM Their voices are just different, not to mention they have complete different styles in their music. Don't start criticizing Celine because there is one clip of her recording the part. You know that Celine always records her lines several times so that doesn't means that the clip we all have seen is the one that they are going to use, besides after the recording there is always some kind of editing to improve the pitch... let's not be rough to Celine and wait until we hear the final product. wjd Posted February 4, 2010 at 04:35 PM Posted February 4, 2010 at 04:35 PM @justinecoria What a ridiculous thing to say. "People just need to understand that isn't that good anymore" or however you said it, is the biggest load of rubbish I've ever read. The power her voice still has is nothing short of amazing, considering a) her age her live schedule over the last two decades (she shouldn't be able to sing this well lol!) c) her style of belting isn't conventional - she doesn't just belt from the chest. Her tone, and diction have improved SO much over the last few years too; what irks me about people is that they claim she can't sing anymore, without miming or lipsyching. Then when she delivers a KNOCK-OUT vocal, ala the Grammy's or We Are The World - they then still say she can't sing. She is unquestionably one of the best vocalists of all-time - she's still one of the best vocalists in the world, and ANY voice expert will tell you that. That's the technical side over with. Now the emotion side - she's got that down too. It used to always be about the runs and the notes, now she's much more emotive. fred Posted February 4, 2010 at 05:11 PM Posted February 4, 2010 at 05:11 PM Isn't it quite extraordinary the kind of exposure Céline gets about now without even activly working for it? I mean she has no album to promote, no single. She doesn't NEED attention. Yet media sucks her up and shine their spot light on her even though there are tons of other active stars around her. I find it quite remarkable. Amazed. /fred Quote Peace and love to all.
Lawna Posted February 4, 2010 at 05:14 PM Posted February 4, 2010 at 05:14 PM I must be the only one who enjoyed what I've heard so far? wjd Posted February 4, 2010 at 07:19 PM Posted February 4, 2010 at 07:19 PM You just can't expect her belting to be crystal clear anymore, or even pure - its going to be raspy, because its now harder for her to hit her notes. But she CAN hit her notes, still. And she DOES. What note is it in We Are The World - perhaps an F5? (same as the main Taking Chances note) or one lower - a D5?
