drove all night Posted October 14, 2012 at 12:53 PM Author Posted October 14, 2012 at 12:53 PM THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER national anthem of the United States of America. According to Wikipedia the lyrics come from "Defence of Fort McHenry", a poem written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key, after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy ships in Chesapeake Bay during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812. The poem was set to the tune of a popular British song written by John Stafford Smith for the "Anacreontic Society", a men's social club in London. "The Star-Spangled Banner" was recognized made the national anthem by a congressional resolution in 1931, which was signed by President Herbert Hoover. The song's difficult to sing, because of its wide range. drove all night Posted October 14, 2012 at 04:15 PM Author Posted October 14, 2012 at 04:15 PM C'EST UN PETIT MONDE French adaption of "It's a small world". According to Wikipedia: It's a popular musical boat ride located in the Fantasyland area at each of the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts worldwide "Children of the World" was the working title of the attraction. Its tentative soundtrack featured the national anthems of the countries represented throughout the ride all playing all at once, which resulted in a cacophonous noise. Walt showed a scale model of the attraction to his staff songwriters Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman, saying "I need one song that can be easily translated into many languages and be played as a round." The Sherman Brothers then wrote "It's a small world (after all)" in the wake of the Cuban Missile Crisis, which influenced the song's message of peace and brotherhood. When they first presented it to Walt, they played it as a slow ballad. Walt requested something more cheerful, so they sped up the tempo and sang in counterpoint. Walt was so delighted with the final result that he renamed the attraction "it's a small world" after the Sherman Brothers' song. It is argued that this song is the single most performed and most translated piece of music on Earth. Celine performed a sample of this song in Euro Disney Paris, France in 1996: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3XzJLCKTZg Quote
