drove all night Posted February 28, 2016 at 03:50 PM Author Posted February 28, 2016 at 03:50 PM WITH ONE MORE LOOK AT YOU/WATCH CLOSELY NOW Is the ballad-version of "Watch Closely Now", a song of the 1976 musical movie "A Star Is Born", written by Paul Williams and Kenny Ascher. In that movie Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson starred and it was a remake of a 1937 movie-drama and the 1954 version with Judy Garland and James Mason. (By the way: In that movie "Evergreen", one of Streisand's signature songs, premiered and was in 1976 eventually honored with a Grammy, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award, at which Barbra was the first woman to be honored as a composer!)At Barbra's 2012 album "Release Me" - a compilation of rare and unreleased tracks - a studio take of "With one more look at you" can be found. Here's Barbra talking about it: For those of you who guessed, why Céline choose especially this song as her first performed song after René's death, here's - apart from the meaningful lyrics - another possible reason: the plot (source: imdb):"The career of former talented rock star John Howard starts to decline. Too many years of concerts and tours have made him cynical and taken its toll. He meets the innocent, pure and very talented singer Esther Hoffman. As one of his songs in the movie says: "I'm gonna take you girl, I'm gonna show you how" he does, he shows Esther the way to stardom while forsaking his own career. They fall madly in love and marry. John dies eventually in a car accident. Esther cries in silence and wonders what she would do without him. At their house Esther is alone, staring at the wall, struggling to accept that her beloved husband is dead. At the tribute concert, and the first time she's singing after his death, she softly begins singing one of John's trademark songs, but as a ballad rather than a rock song. It gradually leads into powerful rendition, all of it focusing on their love, the impact he had on her life and the effect of his loss." And I've found another interesting fact - mainly concerning René, who was a huge Elvis fan, and attended together with his former wife and two of his friends one of Elvis's last shows at the "Las Vegas Hotel" in December 1976:For the part of John Howard Barbra wanted Elvis! To convince him she went to one of his performances in 1975 in Las Vegas (!). Elvis wanted to do it but mainly Colonel Tom Parker (Elvis' manager and René's hero) some troubles aroused, because Elvis' name wouldn't be at the top of the movie poster (above Streisand's name), plus he asked a very high fee, although Elvis hadn't been in a movie since six years then and nobody knew if the movie would be a hit. Finally Kris Kristofferson was chosen for that part. The heartbreaking, touching interpretation of Céline premiered on the first show after René's death, Feb. 23, 2016:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oODnn7ULx60 "Watch closely now", Kris Kristofferson, "A Star Is Born" movie (1976): Barbra Streisand, "A Star Is Born" movie-clip (1976): Studio version, Barbra Streisand ("Release Me", 2002) 4 Quote

Finally Kris Kristofferson was chosen for that part. You can't deny it was a very inspired and symbolic choice on Celine's part! I was surprised the tribute section for the first show back didn't incorporate a French song - surely even an English audience would allow her as much for such a special show - but this was as thoughtful a choice as she could make for the occasion. And I applaud her for it. And I love that it ends on a pretty defiant note. Also, enjoying the distinctly Broadway feel to it. I know she's said she has no interest in doing an actual Broadway show and I could never see that happen anyway, but if she did ever end up doing a movie, a movie musical might just be the perfect way in. Here are the lyrics and the translation: Une chance qu’on s’a (Jean-Pierre Ferland / Alain Leblanc) Une chance que j’t’aiJe t’ai, tu m’asUne chance qu’on s’a Quand tu m’appelles "mon p’tit loup"Avec ta belle voixTu panses mes bleusTu tues tous mes papillons noirsTu fais des boules de lumièresAvec tes p’tits doigtsTu fous la trouille aux hiboux Une chance que j’t’aiJe t’ai, tu m’asUne chance qu’on s’a J’suis pas très grandPas très fortMais que personne vienneTe faire d’la peineSans d’abord me passer sur le corpsFie-toi sur moiMon bon chatT’auras jamais peurTant que j’vivraiMême, même si je meurs Une chance que j’t’aiJe ferais tous les planétariumsJe t’ai, tu m’asChercher dans toutes les galaxiesLa crème des femmesQue je finirai dans ton lit Le paradis c’est iciY’a pas d’autres viesJ’te donne la mienneParce que je t’aime à l’infini Une chance que j’t’aiJ’ferais tous les planétariumsJe t’ai, tu m’asChercher dans toutes les galaxiesUne chance qu’on s’aUne chance qu’on s’aime So lucky we have us So lucky I have youI have you, you have me.So lucky we have us. drove all night Posted April 1, 2016 at 01:24 PM Author Posted April 1, 2016 at 01:24 PM (edited) TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT Who would have guessed that this phrase, which Celine likes to sing quite often, belongs to a "real" song! Well, I didn't know until I found out today coincidentally, that: This song was written by Rod Stewart for his 1976 album "A Night on the Town". It became his second US chart topper. The inspiration for that song came from "Today's the Day", then-hit of the English rock band "America" (another hit of that band was "A horse with no name"). Britt Ekland, Stewart's girlfriend at the time, spoke the French part in "Tonight's the night". As these words were too suggestive for airplay they were shortened by some radio stations. drove all night Posted April 5, 2016 at 08:56 AM Author Posted April 5, 2016 at 08:56 AM ADESTE FIDELES (O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL) originally written in Latin as "Adeste Fideles", is a Christmas carol. It's not clear who really wrote it: Could be John Francis Wade (1711-1786), John Reading (1645-1692) of even King John IV of Portugal (1604-1656). It's not known, who sang it first - which wouldn't matter, as there hadn't been records or even shellac at that time. At least we know, that the English translation was written in 1841 by the English Catholic priest Frederick Oakeley, titled "O Come, All Ye Faithful"In the United Kingdom and United States it is often sung today in an arrangement by Sir David Willcocks, which was originally published in 1961 by Oxford University Press in the first book in the Carols for Choirs series.Celine released it on her 1998 album "These are special times" and performed it @ the "Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade" at Walt Disney World in 2009 King's College Choir, Cambridge: Celine @ "These are special times":https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFWyiYDWPm4 Celine @ "Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade" 2009: Quote

drove all night Posted May 18, 2016 at 10:42 PM Author Posted May 18, 2016 at 10:42 PM (edited) TRISTESSE ("L'OMBRE SE FUIT") is the vocalised "Étude Op. 10, No. 3, in E major" of the Polish composer and pianist Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849). It was first published only for piano in 1833 in France, Germany and England. Chopin himself believed that this melody would be one of his most beautiful. It became famous through numerous popular arrangements. Although it's sometimes identified by "Tristesse" (Sadness) Chopin didn't name it that way. The first transcriptions for voice already existed in Chopin’s time. When he was in London in 1837, he heard Maria Malibran sing one of these adaptations and he really liked it.(Source: Wikipedia & Web) One of the first recordings of the song where: 1938 "Memories of Chopin" by Viennese Singing Sisters, a vocal arrangement with German words:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3Kf__DnfiI 1939 "Tristesse" by Tino Rossi:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4P1FpRwgBU In 1989 Céline sang this piece so beautifully. jpatdeleon09 Posted May 19, 2016 at 11:59 AM Posted May 19, 2016 at 11:59 AM I would like to hear celine perform her "turned down/supposed to be" songs like "Unbreak My Heart, There You'll Be, I Don't Want To Miss A Thing.. etc.", that would be great. Fans will go wild or maybe just me? lol Quote
jpatdeleon09 Posted May 19, 2016 at 12:00 PM Posted May 19, 2016 at 12:00 PM I think she turned down those songs due to her husband's illness that was in late 90's Quote
drove all night Posted January 15, 2017 at 05:56 PM Author Posted January 15, 2017 at 05:56 PM MY LOVE (BY SIA) written by Sia Furler for the soundtrack of the third part of the Twilight Saga-movies, "Eclipse". The soundtrack was released in June 2010. In the movie the song is played during Edwards proposal to Bella.Céline choose to sing that song a capella on the first anniversary of René's death in 2017. Reading the lyrics I can't help but ask myself, if Sia already knew in 2010, to which love these words would fit perfectly in 2017. My love, leave yourself behindBeat inside me, leave you blindMy love, you have found peaceYou were searching for relief You gave it allGave into the callYou took a chance andYou took a fall for usYou came thoughtfullyLoved me faithfullyYou taught me honorYou did it for me Today you will sleep awayYou will wait for me, my loveNow I am strongYou gave me allYou gave all you hadAnd now I am whole You took my handAdded a planYou gave me your heartI asked you to dance with meYou loved honestlyGave what you could release I know in peace you'll goI hope relief is yoursMy loveBeat inside me Sia: Céline: 1 Quote
Davey84 Posted January 17, 2017 at 09:21 AM Posted January 17, 2017 at 09:21 AM (edited) AVEC LE TEMPS (BY LEO FERRE) "Avec le temps" ("With time") is a 1971 song written, composed and sung by the French artist Léo Ferré. It was recorded in October 1970 for volume 2 of his Amour Anarchie album, but the record label dismissed the song, seen as not fitting the general mood of others songs. It was released as a 45 one year after, then on a compilation LP called Avec le temps : Les chansons d'amour de Léo Ferré. This tragic and beautifully sad love song, inspired by Ferré's own disenchantment and recent breakup, has been an instant classic. It is one of his most famous songs (along with Paris canaille, Jolie môme, C'est extra), becoming with time the most constantly covered French song worldwide. Avec le temps was performed, among others, by many, some are Céline Dion, Dalida, Patrica Kaas, Isabelle Boulay and Johnny Hallyday. Lyrics: Avec le temps...Avec le temps, va, tout s'en vaOn oublie le visage et l'on oublie la voixLe c½ur, quand ça bat plus, c'est pas la peine d'allerChercher plus loin, faut laisser faire et c'est très bien Avec le temps...Avec le temps, va, tout s'en vaL'autre qu'on adorait, qu'on cherchait sous la pluieL'autre qu'on devinait au détour d'un regardEntre les mots, entre les lignes et sous le fardD'un serment maquillé qui s'en va faire sa nuit Avec le temps tout s'évanouit Avec le temps...Avec le temps, va, tout s'en vaMême les plus chouettes souvenirs ça t'as une de ces gueulesÀ la galerie, j'farfouille dans les rayons de la mortLe samedi soir quand la tendresse s'en va toute seule Avec le temps...Avec le temps, va, tout s'en vaL'autre à qui l'on croyait pour un rhume, pour un rienL'autre à qui l'on donnait du vent et des bijouxPour qui l'on eût vendu son âme pour quelques sousDevant quoi l'on s'traînait comme traînent les chiensAvec le temps, va, tout va bien Avec le temps...Avec le temps, va, tout s'en vaOn oublie les passions et l'on oublie les voixQui vous disaient tout bas les mots des pauvres gensNe rentre pas trop tard, surtout ne prends pas froid Avec le temps...Avec le temps, va, tout s'en vaEt l'on se sent blanchi comme un cheval fourbuEt l'on se sent glacé dans un lit de hasardEt l'on se sent tout seul peut-être mais peinardEt l'on se sent floué par les années perduesAlors vraiment... avec le temps... on n'aime plus English translation:[hide]With the time with the time everything is going away we forget the face, and we forget the voice the heart when its beating ,this is not the pain to go to search far.......I dont know how to translate this with the time with the time everything is going away the other one that we have loved, that we`ve searched in the rain the other one that we recognized on the corner with just one look between the words, between the lines and under the make-up with a made-up pledge/oath the night is going away with the time everything disappears with the time with the time everything is going away even the most nice/miraculous/cool memories like this with the pumpkin(I think that they mean this one which Cinderella uses) in the gallery I fumble in the ray of the death every saturday evening when the tenderness is leaving me/going away with the time with the time everything is going away the other one for who we cried just to cause our-selves a head-ache,for nothing the other one to who we were giving the wind, the jewelries for him,for the one that we sold our soul just for some cents for this one for who we would suffer like a dog with the time everything is leaving with the time with the time everything is going away we forget the passion and the voice too the voice which was saying you quietly the words of the poorest people dont comeback too late,be careful not to get cold with the time with the time everything is going away and we feel white like a worn out(very tired) horse and we feel like droppped in a hazard game...(its not the best translation) and we feel lonely but maybe calm and we feel lied/cheated for the lost ages - so its true with the time we dont love any more[/hide] Céline sang the song during the tribute to René at the Gala de l'ADISQ 2016 on 2016/10/30. She took the stage to pick up the honorary Félix trophy, a posthumous honorary Félix to one of the greatest producers and impresarios in Québec history, René Angélil. During this performance you can clearly see they mimicked the 'video clip' of Léo Ferré.
