Hi noar...I don't think many of us speak japanese (I wish I did) so that'll be more difficult.

I'm not sure if there's a japanese section in here....have you tried asking someone there? they're probably the nicest people and if someone speaks English, you're done

bye

Someone in the china section translated the lyrics in it englisch for me,

here they are if someone else is intrested.

Be The Man

(English translations from the Japanese version)

I did not believe love could grow

I choosed loneliness rather than got deeply hurt

more quickly than the snow melts in Sahara

I begin to blend in well with love

and believe you

be the man please

give me the love that never goes away

our hearts beat and will be together forever

our breath will touch each other forever

I used to be scared if somewhere in my heart would feel this love

be the man please

shinier than the stars in the world right now

if so,even death is not fearful

I am not alone any more

I will follow you forever

I will run, I will run to you

our love will become strong

be the man please

deeper than the sea

lying down at night

we gaze at each other and this love will be forever

our hearts beat and will be together forever

always be with me, be the man

As requested, here is a translation of La diva. I would have liked to spend more time on it but I think the idea is there:

The Diva

At night as I awake in the desert of my own glory

I often imagine the diva dressed in black

The one who was loved but who despised herself

The woman whose voice will resonate forevermore

Not a single ovation could save her

The magnificent Maria, who let herself die

I admit that some nights as the audience applauds

It’s her who I think about, her who I thank

Days when I’m no longer sure of anything

If I’m sad or if I’m happy

When suddenly I’m afraid of no longer being able to sing

The love I receive, so strong and so intense

In her despair, she would not have recognised it

Not a single ovation could save her

The magnificent Maria, who knew only suffering,

I admit that some nights when I am on stage

I would like for my voice to mix with hers

To feel the pain of this poorly-loved woman

You have to have climbed to the deserted summits

And for singing from the depths of my very soul

I recognised myself in that woman

And I am no longer alone in my sleepless nights

When I think of what my life was

Not a single ovation could satisfy her

The magnificent Maria, the tortured diva

As I flee the lights at night in Las Vegas

In the desert rises the shadow of la Callas

Well, some of us live so far away from France to travel...

and there's also the money issue

As for learning French..I would love to, but my schedule is too tight right now...work, wife, two kids, friends, a life...so I'm sticking with the translations at the moment

Thank God my good friend tony is an incredible translator

Here is another... Slightly more difficult because of a very strange choice of adjectives to describe the night...! Also an odd use of infinitives... I have made additions which I think the English requires, and these are left in brackets...

A Woman Like Any Other

I would like to grasp in my hands

All these perfumes which blend together

All these echoes which bounce off each other

And which will be no more tomorrow

I would like to press against my lips

The heady moisture of the night

That makes me smile though I can’t see it,

The passing breeze which brushes against me

(I would like to) Hold tight in my arms the indolent and voluptuous night

Murmuring and conspiring, which follows me and seduces me

With her eyes the colour of moonlight

Where I watch dreams pass

At night, a woman like any other

A woman like any other

I want to know where the wind settles

And set out to surprise it

In some glen of tender grass

Where the moss forms a soft blanket

Oh! (I want) To see the colour of silence

To know if it is as deep as it is vast

See the quietened tones it takes

With its multiple nuances

(I would like to) Hold tight in my arms the indolent and voluptuous night

Murmuring and conspiring, which follows me and seduces me

With her eyes the colour of moonlight

Where I watch dreams pass

At night, a woman like any other

A woman like any other

The reason i started this thread is alot to do with my wanting good translations in one place.......and im also impatient to know what some lyrics mean,i would not be able to learn french quick enough to know every word of all her songs :D

so please keep up the translations  :flowers:

Thank you for the translations. She does extremely beautiful songs in French and I wish I could understand it. I have a question though. La Diva means the Diva so does that mean that La means the? If so then what does Les mean? I hope that's not confusing for anyone.

La= The (feminine)

La= The (masculine)

Les= The (plural)

Posted (edited)

Ok...how about straight from a Celine song? ;)

"Apprends-moi, les petites choses..."

"Teach me, the small things..."

The word "les" is used for "the" because it's choses/things (plural) not chose/thing (singular.)

"People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."

- Céline Dion, 1990

En attendant ses pas... One of my favourites :)

Le doux temps de ses bras might have been some weird metaphor about the 'gentle weather' of his arms (warmth etc) but I chose 'time' for all the time she will spend in his arms when/if he arrives...

Waiting for his Footsteps

As I wait for the sound of his footsteps, I’ll turn the music down, so low

It’s stupid, but you never know, will he ring the bell

Will I hear him this time?

Waiting for the sound of his footsteps one morning

Evening or morning, winter or dawn,

Or will he choose spring?

Nothing, I know nothing,

At night, I’ll turn on the lights that border the garden path

As I wait for his arms, I’ll paint flowers around the doors

He’ll like that

Waiting for the gentle time in his arms…

I’ll take care of myself; I’ll paint my lips and rouge my cheeks

So that he cannot see

Sometimes I’m too pale, he must not surprise me like that!

There is fresh water and some wine

I don’t know which he will choose

I don’t know if he will be fair or dark

I have no idea if he will be big or not

But when I hear his voice I’ll know

That all his words, all of them, are for me

Waiting for the gentle time in his arms

I think about that moment all the time, the moment we recognise each other

I will tell him it has been too long, no! I certainly won’t say that to him

As I wait for his footsteps, I will live, dream and breathe for that moment

As I wait for a meaning to all this

Evening or morning, winter or dawn,

Or will he choose spring?

Nothing, I know nothing,

At night, I’ll turn on the lights that border the garden path

As I wait for his arms I’ll paint flowers around the door

He’ll like that

Waiting for a meaning to all this, to all of this

I have a request for an English translation. It's not the whole song, but just a verse from Tonight We Dance, which I love. So uninhibited! Anyway, the verse is:

Autour de nous il tombe des bombes

Plus besoin de creuser nos tombes

On est tous des morts en vacances

Mais on s'en fout, ce soir on danse

Can anyone help me out with this translation? Thanks a lot.

I typed this into the Google Translator and I got this translation back:

Around us it falls bombs

No need to dig our graves

It is all the dead on holiday

But we can fout tonight on dance

I found the word "fou", which means "crazy" and that could fit. So the last line is now translated:

But it will be crazy tonight on dance

Can anybody give a more realistic translation for this?

Many thanks.

Hey wolfepaw! I love that song too! Here is my attempt at a translation... The Google translator did a good job but, as you can see, it is not completely accurate...

Around us, bombs are falling

No need to dig our own graves

We are the living dead on holiday

But what do we care, tonight we dance!

des morts could be corpses or just 'the dead'/'dead people' but I chose 'living dead' because I thought the English needed something extra. I suppose the idea is that with all the trouble around us we don't need to worry or make our own problems etc, we will all die anyway, so let's just dance and have fun. I'd have to look at the whole song to be sure but that's the impression I get from the verse above. Hope this helps :)

ps: on s'en fout means 'we don't care', similarly je m'en fous means 'I don't care'. The verb is s'en foutre which is very familiar. Still, it is used quite a lot in French. Just means to be completely indifferent.
