LukeD Posted May 8, 2024 at 02:38 AM Posted May 8, 2024 at 02:38 AM (edited) We loved each other because, because of the summerthat painted everything in pink, the love and the cityBecause of the great dreams that we builtaround Adam, Eve and their paradise Because of the ambience, of a place and a moment, and the shreds of childhood glued to our twenty years We loved each other because, because, because...But now, you see, we can't ignore that we need to see things a bit differentlyWe loved each other because...We must love each other despite... Despite, despite the rain that falls on our summersDespite the sky of soot and days without clarityDespite all the great dreams that we've returned fromlike Adam and Eve from the lost paradise Despite the clairvoyance of our indulgent heartsDespite the habit knitted over the years We loved each other because, because, because...But now, you see, we can't ignorethat we need to see things a bit differentlyWe loved each other because... Because of the ambience, of a place and a moment, and the shreds of childhood glued to our twenty years We loved each other because, because, because...But now, you see, we can't ignorethat we need to see things a bit differentlyWe loved each other because... Oh we must love each other despite, despite many thingsBut now, you see, we cannot ignoreThat love transforms and its apotheosisis when we love because, because of the 'despites'... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RI_0UquhHGE Edited May 8, 2024 at 02:39 AM by LukeD Quote

JJG has very strange ways to picture some things, sometimes ! You get the whole meaning, but the way to say it is kinda special. "Au plaisir à plus tard et plus tard est si joli", for example. "My pleasure, see you soon, and this 'soon' sounds appealing" Well, it's a tricky way to express she's bored with the man she's talking about in the song. Sometimes, he plays with the words and how they sound, too. "Et s'offrir, et souffrir" is brilliant : "s'offrir" means "make love" and just after that "souffrir", which almost sounds the same, is "feeling bad", so with just a few words, you have all the feelings, the ups and downs, of the relationship she wants to put an end to in the song. 2 Quote

Yeah...JJG's choice of words is tricky sometimes... But I love how this song speaks about different worlds and reincarnation in a uplifting way... we will all die someday,it's no big deal, die with a smile,we'll meet again in another world or in another life. That’s the thing i love from JJG’s writings. His choice of words to tell a story tends to be poetic, hard to understand but once you get the message you’d realize that it’s a beautiful message. Like “Sur le même bateau”, he wrote that rich and poor people are no different but he used a metaphor to describe the situation. I really love the climax where he described that when the boat starts to sink, there won’t be statuses, ranks, and classes anymore as everyone feels the same feeling (in this case, panicking) on the same boat. My personal favorite Celine song that he wrote is En attendant ses pas, it’s really beautiful. Edited February 17, 2026 at 01:08 PM by Unison Addict 1 Quote

I always said to myself that if I had the chance to meet JJG once in my life, I would ask him what he wanted to say when he wrote "Même si dans tes danses d'autres dansent tes heures" ( PQTME) 🤣 2 Quote

It's been 30 years and I still have no idea what is the meaning of this. I remember, some time ago, I asked on Twitter/X what was people's ideas about this and 1/ nobody had a clue 2/ most of them had found out it was "dansent TES heures", they thought it was "dansent des heures". I was like "what does 'danser les danses de quelqu'un' mean to you ?"...well it's still a mystery ! 1 Quote
