I never cared for “I love You”, sounds like a country folksy song with corny lyrics.

I never liked ILY, the lyrics are too bland. But I always thought that YL sounds like a Shania Twain country song.

Your Light is awesome! :D I really enjoy the chorus, and the bridge is out of this world!

Unpopular opinion: ITWIT and IDK are 2 of my favourite non-single tracks. IDK was a faithful translation, but PQTME would be impossible so I think they did a fine job using English metaphors to capture its essence (though I guess they could have added a reference to Céline burning down her house and walking barefoot through the streets of NYC).

CTM is another great track.

Most of the "hip" songs sounded out of place. DOL is okay, but if she was trying to channel Stevie Wonder, I think it fell a little short (I prefer the Motown-inspired songs from TCOML).

Luckily, my two least favourite tracks weren't included on the American edition. Natural Woman is so saccharine and over-the-top, it's pure camp - only I wish her lyrical reading was a little different… edgier, raspier, perhaps…. But I guess that version could've come out sounding as contrived as Your Light, which is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. She's trying way too hard to sound rock, and it just doesn't work for me. I think it would be especially jarring to hear on this album, but I wonder what anyone outside the U.S. has to say about that…

In short, FIY has never been my favourite English album- though it does contain some good tracks. As far as "listenability" goes, I would place it below CD, TCOML, ATW, ANDHC, OH, LMBTL & Courage - but above LTAL, Unison and TC.

Oh alright, I've got a few minutes... :D

For the translated tracks:

  • I don't really have strong feelings about ITWIT - it's perfectly enjoyable, but I'd choose the original any day.
  • I Don't Know works just as well in English - I'd still choose the original, but one thing I love is that the translation to "a DYYYYYYYYYYing flame" gives us that tremendously powerful, full-force note because the English word is a more open vowel where the French version is relatively closed ("jour après jour").
  • Sacrilege alert: Fly has never done anything for me, really, in either language. I get it, I know the emotion behind it, I understand why it's personal to Céline and many others; it just doesn't really make me feel anything and leaves me fairly cold. Not that it's bad, but it's nothing I'd ever miss.

Call The Man is a great song - not being remotely religious, I appreciate that it can be interpreted secularly as well (even though at its core it's fairly blatantly non-secular in nature). I was surprised it was released as a single back home, but it did fairly well and at that point they could have released anything and had it achieve some measure of success!

I'm 50:50 with you on your least favorite tracks:

  • (You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman is another abomination in Céline's discography, with Foster giving in to his worst schmaltzy synthetic production tendencies. They should have renamed Céline's version Unnatural Woman since there's nothing that sounds remotely natural or organic about the track. I wish it wasn't on my copy of FIY! Granted, it's not as bad as At Last - I don't generally skip it, but it's a close call.
  • On the other hand, I love Your Light! I think it's a great change-up for Céline and brings a nice bit of energy to FIY - I don't find it jarring in the album sequence at all (although that sequence is how I got to know the album in the first place). The lyrics aren't the best, but I'm all for the song overall. :)

ILY is a bit childish and cheesy for me, but I enjoy it well enough in the flow of the album. I always much preferred DOY, which I feel doesn't get much love from a lot of fans.

Besides all the hits on the album DOY and MYH are my favorites! I also enjoy SM.

I just think most of the album tracks are just cheap and forgettable. Not bad but maybe like 6/10.

8,8 1/2 /10 not perfect or flawless but it's a good album

Her voice is so strong on this album, I give some of the material a pass.

It's All Coming Back To Me Now, Because You Loved Me, and All by Myself are enough to consider it one of the greatest albums among the big divas: Whitney, Celine and Mariah.

I should clarify my 6/10 was for the album tracks. The album itself is a 8/10 or 8.5

Tina Turner passed away RIP She was simple The Best and her life was like River Deep Mountain High.

Very sad to hear about Tina Turner.

Looking back at some of her concernts, I can see how Celine was very influenced by her. She had such iconic stage presence.

this is the best performance

Video wise? Maybe

But vocal wise I rather listen to Lettermen or Birmingham. Every performance after she changed the way she sang the song.

Thank you!!! I’ll take a good 2007 or 2008 performance over 1996-98 any day, the 2 you mentioned are easily the best.

I love the “A New Day…” version the best. All those dancers, her dress, the energy. So freakin good.

The story goes that she sung RDMH when some people at Letterman weren't too keen of her coming on and singing a ballad or something. They wanted some rock'n'roll...I forget the whole details, but it was some sort of a put-down, Celine got wind of it, and she said "alright, you want rock -- watch THIS!"

And her famous Tina cover was born! I had wished Tina had at least a decade more to go, she was such a brilliant performer who worked so hard and deserved many more peaceful day in retirement.

So many great comments here… and many from non-Celine fans.

I love these jewels from Celine’s career. The surprising moments that really made an impact.

True! As far as I know, she was originally expected to perform “Think Twice”, but since the single was never a success in the U.S., they probably thought RDMH would be a much better option.

Im glad we got RDMH but they didnt really push TT in the US did they? The only live performance was Regis and Kathy Lee correct?

That's interesting...

Think Twice is such a powerful song. It's a shame it didn't become a hit in the US.

Maybe it would have if she performed it that night. We will never know
