Funny story - my mother gave me a review of the album a couple days ago. She felt most of the material was mediocre, but elevated to a higher level thanks to Celine. :pinch:

Her fave tracks:

- It's All Coming Back To Me Now 10/10

- All By Myself 10/10

- I Love You 08/10

- Because You Loved Me 08/10

- Dreaming Of You 07/10

She hated River Deep-Mountain High, Your Light and Declaration Of Love. :sofunny: She also found Fly boring.

Some average tracks:

Make You Happy was described as promising. She loved the reggae verses but found the chorus less appealing.

Call The Man was described as touching but somewhat unearthly. :giggle:

Seduces Me was described as sensual but lacking a hook.

All in all, I found it super funny that her picks are essentially the tracks that the general public loved (IACBTMN, BYLM, ABM) and then ILY that as far as I know is one of the most popular Celine songs in Asian markets. :-D I disagreed with her take on CTM and SM, as I love both songs, but had to give her credit for sensing what the public liked. :giggle:

ILY and DOY are cheesy and bland. I always skip them. And what did she say about the title track? I think, it's one of the highlights of the album.

My fave tracks:

1. IACBTMN

2. ABM

3. BYLM

4. FIY

5. SM

She did not like it very much. That is another song I defended as it is my favourite on the album alongside Call The Man and Seduces Me. To be fair though, she only listened to about 1 minute or 2 of each song, which does not do them justice, as the majority of her songs have a climax that adds to them.

ILY has an old-school quality that I like. Kind of reminds me of Mariah's 'Forever' in Daydream.

DOY is in the same bag as MYH. They start promising, the first has country vibes and the second reggae vibes, but in their respective choruses they become all too popish and bland. I would have loved Celine to go all the way with reggae and country in these recordings. It is as if the choruses drain the emotion and uniqueness.

IMO all the Falling Into You album is simply flawless.

Love it!

All these years later and I still listen from start to finish. I don’t skip not one track!

I wouldn't say it's flawless, but it's her best English album. There is no doubt about it.

Falling Into You is excellent but it has the problem of filler. Most of her english albums are very bloated and the digital/streaming versions make it even worse.

You could take out like 5 tracks at the album would be an incredible 10 track album.

My fave tracks are:

IACBTMN

ILY (very popular in PH)

MYH (could have been a single)

BYLM

SM

ITWIT (though the original french version is better)

ABM

I don't like Fly as much as the french version and her cover of RDMH. FIY is honestly her magnum opus. It's, alongside LMBTL, is my fave album of hers

I think Call the Man gets overlooked sometimes, it truly is so beautiful and her voice sounds divine.

#2 favourite song among CelineDionForum fans, according to the 'Survivor' game we used to play. #1 was IACBTMN.

I have never cared for Call The Man. Always thought it was the worst track on the album.

"People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."

- Céline Dion, 1990

I never cared for “I love You”, sounds like a country folksy song with corny lyrics.

I adore that song! What are a few of your favorite Celine English songs?

The tracks I don't care for, and which I think are the weakest, are "If That's What It Takes" and "I Don't Know" ... something was definitely lost in translation there. I would never listen to those, I'll just go to the French versions.

"Fly" was much more successful as a translated song.

Agreed. Especially the lyrics of ITWIT are extremely bland. The original version is far superior. I think 'Je T'aime Encore' and 'Fly' are the best English adaptions she's pulled. Edited by LukeD

Take them out and it's a near-perfect album imo

I like all the songs but some scream filler and sometimes distupt the flow of the album for me.

Makes You Happy

declaration of Love

dreaming of you.

MYH makes me mad because you have these incredible songs of IACBTM, BYLM, SM, ABM and sandwitched in between is this forgetable filler song. I think they put it as an upbeat song so there wasnt 4 ballads in a row but its jarring to me.

I really like Make You Happy. DoL and DoY not so much.

Funny you say that - Faith Hill released a more country version in 1998 (although both versions owe more to '50s-era doo-wop than country):

Wow. I actually like this version better! I don’t dislike Céline singing it, but this just sounds more natural to me.

I tried to avoid it, but since I’m weighing in now I’ll put in my 2 cents about the other tracks on FIY.

Unpopular opinion: ITWIT and IDK are 2 of my favourite non-single tracks. IDK was a faithful translation, but PQTME would be impossible so I think they did a fine job using English metaphors to capture its essence (though I guess they could have added a reference to Céline burning down her house and walking barefoot through the streets of NYC).

CTM is another great track.

Most of the “hip” songs sounded out of place. DOL is okay, but if she was trying to channel Stevie Wonder, I think it fell a little short (I prefer the Motown-inspired songs from TCOML).

Luckily, my two least favourite tracks weren’t included on the American edition. Natural Woman is so saccharine and over-the-top, it’s pure camp - only I wish her lyrical reading was a little different… edgier, raspier, perhaps…. But I guess that version could’ve come out sounding as contrived as Your Light, which is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. She’s trying way too hard to sound rock, and it just doesn’t work for me. I think it would be especially jarring to hear on this album, but I wonder what anyone outside the U.S. has to say about that…

In short, FIY has never been my favourite English album- though it does contain some good tracks. As far as “listenability” goes, I would place it below CD, TCOML, ATW, ANDHC, OH, LMBTL & Courage - but above LTAL, Unison and TC.
