Lymon Posted July 6, 2009 at 11:38 PM Posted July 6, 2009 at 11:38 PM (edited) That's crazyyy and it makes me nervous about her performance. The whooole world will watch this... most of the televisions are going to broadcast it live. She must do really well, hopefully the emotion will help her. I feel like she won't sing it with Trey. I'm thinking Stevie Wonder or Jermaine (since they're going to be there) I'd die if she sang with Stevie! I cannot wait for this performance! Why you so obsessed with me Edited July 6, 2009 at 11:39 PM by Lymon Quote http://i51.tinypic.com/2uf4r5f.png

LuisMa Posted July 7, 2009 at 07:25 PM Posted July 7, 2009 at 07:25 PM It's already number 3 in Spain. And 5 in the US!!!!! I didn't really like the performance of I'll Be There. It was ok. Quote
Lymon Posted July 7, 2009 at 07:35 PM Posted July 7, 2009 at 07:35 PM Yay for Obsessed's success! I liked the IBT performance a lot. It was sweet. I didn't really judge it a lot because she was very emotional, and this wasn't some promotional event, it was a tribute to Michael Jackson. It was good for the event. Black Kitten Posted July 8, 2009 at 02:10 AM Posted July 8, 2009 at 02:10 AM i didn't like the performance. my expectation was so high perhaps. it's hard to watch Mariah struggling and she looked huge. but since it's a tribute to the King of Pop, and everybody was in pain, it's still a good performance. celine-addict Posted July 8, 2009 at 05:11 AM Posted July 8, 2009 at 05:11 AM I enjoyed the performance. Was it perfect vocally? No, but I actually felt the emotion from her vocals and that's something I haven't felt in her voice since the 90's. Quote "TAKING CHANCES" World Tour[*] 1/30/2009 - Ft. LuisMa Posted July 8, 2009 at 06:11 AM Posted July 8, 2009 at 06:11 AM "Obsessed" has been passed on iTunes by... Hannah Montana! "He Could Be The One" is within a small distance from "I Got A Feelin'." Mariah's currently at #4. In Spain, Mariah is doing amazingly. Number 2 without any promo!! Quote
Nikosn17 Posted July 8, 2009 at 06:35 AM Posted July 8, 2009 at 06:35 AM (edited) I'm seriously worried about her voice. Of course she was fighting the tears and was very emotional and nervous but you can tell that she really really was giving all she had. I mean she looked like ''Damn I want to make this sound so good'' but I guess that's all she has now. It was a special moment. EW, L.A. Times Talk About Mariah's PerformanceEW's Simon Vozick-Levinson and Missy Schwartz, and Essence.com's Emil Wilbekin live-blogged today's emotional memorial to Michael Jackson and said this during Mariah's performance: Simon: And here's Mariah Carey singing "I'll Be There."Emil: She's breaking down while she sings...Emil: Trey Larenz joining Mariah. He sings back-up on all of her albums and concertsMissy Schwartz Imagining little MJ singing this as a kid is almost too much for me. I imagine it's hard for Mariah, too.Simon: This song is a real tearjerker even in the best of times. Hearing it now...wow.Emil: I think Mariah is choked up...I couldn't do this....Incredible!!!! EmotionalSimon: Yes -- kudos to Mariah and Trey for getting through this song without breaking down in sobs. True professionals.Emil: I'm crying at work!!!Simon: I think people in offices around the world are getting choked up right now. And Los Angeles Times' writers Ann Powers and Todd Martens share their thoughts on Mariah's performance. What: Mariah Carey's 'I'll Be There.' A No. 1 hit for Carey, who covered the Jackson 5 hit on her 1992 "MTV Unplugged" album. The ballad was an early sign of Jackson's strength as a vocalist, a childlike innocence conveyed with near expert phrasing. The Times' Ann Powers is inside Staples Center, and she offers that "Carey's version of the Jackson 5 song symbolizes innocence for her too -- it was one of her early hits, and a curly haired, cherubic Carey has been featured singing it in many televised Jackson tributes this last week. For Jackson's fans, the song recalls a period when the star made history as one of the first black teen idols to find acceptance across color lines." At the memorial: In the very first verse Carey -- in a black, glittery dress -- made it clear that this would be a more restrained, elegant rendition of the song. Singing through the emotions, Carey was at a near-gasp in the song's opening moments. Her partner on the 1992 cover, Trey Lorenz, made an appearance here as well, heightening the performance's gospel undertones. Lorenz, in fact, showed off more vocal dynamics than Carey. But a more subtle Carey is a more graceful one. Inside the venue, Powers noted that Carey's take began in a tiny voice, as if to honor the boy Michael. When Carey found that Lorenz almost bowled her over, that's when she turned her voice up a notch to match her singing partner. Lorenz sang Michael's name in falsetto, and Carey added "Never Can Say Goodbye..." Very tasteful.Source: Entertainment Weekly | L.A. Times | Jason Edited July 8, 2009 at 06:36 AM by Nikosn17 Quote
Nikosn17 Posted July 8, 2009 at 06:47 AM Posted July 8, 2009 at 06:47 AM Mariah on Twitter: ''Just recovering from the day. Still filled w/sadness as we listen to KJLH in LA(Stevie Wonder's radio station)paying tribute to MJ.Trying to sing today was basically impossible for me. I could barely keep myself from crying. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to pull it together and really do it right, but I was literally choked up when I saw him there in front of me. One thing I know is, we will never really have to say goodbye to MJ. His legacy lives on through his music and the millions of people'' Quote
dj4celine Posted July 8, 2009 at 10:17 AM Posted July 8, 2009 at 10:17 AM Glad the reviews are nice and nothing scathing. At least most of them didn't comment about her voice but stuck with the performance. But yes, she has lost her voice unfortunately and I think it's gonna be 'Charmbracelet' era #2 all over again Quote

dj4celine Posted July 8, 2009 at 10:56 AM Posted July 8, 2009 at 10:56 AM I mean her belting voice. She's back to her whispers but for some reason I liked it. And no way she'll have her CB Tour live voice ever again. The damage is clearly done. I don't think it was being emotional that she struggled with the notes but who knows, she may surprise us soon Quote

I don't think it was being emotional that she struggled with the notes but who knows, she may surprise us soon The problem is with mixing her full voice and falceto and in her condition it doesn't sound good. She should try not to switch between these 2 types of singing so often. She should find a proper vocal coach... That's so sad. Turuncan Posted July 9, 2009 at 12:29 AM Posted July 9, 2009 at 12:29 AM Hello everybody! Odd that my very first message on Celine Dion forum is about Mariah, but forgive me, I am really a HUGE fan and when I saw that the last message left was about her, I couldn't resist. She is about to release her new album and I am so excited about it! Though I am not really into the first single, 'Obsessed', my expectations for the album are quite high. I didn't like 'Touch My Body' either, but the "E=MC²" album was basically gorgeous. I am indeed still a little disappointed that she released an album so quickly after that, without promoting it with more singles (there were so many great songs that deserved to be released, even more than some released ones) and a tour. But it's a new era now. For comparing Mariah and Celine, they are both great in their own fields. They are the two of the three ultimate divas, you know. So, I think we should respect their artistries individually. Thanks! Quote
