ugh... i'm a bit late but whatevahhh... i've just listened to it. i'm quite unsure what to feel about the song. i so love the summery vibe of the song. love the hooks, but the vocals sound too processed to me... we all love her raw vocals. i don't see why they needed to kind of "enhance" it. but all-in-all, it's a surefire HIT.

Whoa! Could this be the first time a diva trumps a rapper in a hip-hop beef?

 

Mariah Carey throws some elbows on her new single “Obsessed” – the first track from her upcoming “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” (Island) due out Aug. 25, which debuted on radio this afternoon – and they’re all landing on her tormentor Eminem.

 

“Why you so obsessed with me? Lying that you’re sexing me?” the Greenlawn native sings in the chorus, before delivering the kiss-off “You’re delusional. Boy, you’re losing your mind.”

 

Despite the harsh words – tossing around digs like “You’re a mom-and-pop, I’m a corporation” and referring to his “Napoleon complex” – Carey plays it cool on the track that she co-wrote with The-Dream and Tricky Stewart. She coos confidently, riding the laid-back beat, probably holding back the laughs as she insults again.

 

It plays far smoother than her husband Nick Cannon’s fiery response last month to Eminem’s “Bagpipes from Baghdad,” where Eminem raps about taking Carey back from him and then calls her a “[expletive] *****.” Of course, the Mariah-Eminem flak goes back for years, after he claimed they were in a six-month relationship, which Carey denies.

 

“Your legacy has now been tainted from this day forth!” Cannon wrote (and then retracted) on his blog. “You will now be known as the rapper who lost to corny-*** Nick Cannon!”

 

But “Obsessed” seems to go even farther. Eminem was torn down by Mariah herself. Right now, it’s MC: 1, EM 0.

In case you missed the radio debut, the diva’s own official Website promises to post the song at 4 p.m. ET today. The news comes straight from Carey’s updated Twitter, which not only revealed the “Obsessed” single cover art, which features a drenched Mariah, but also announced that Memoirs will hit stores on August 25th. As for the “Obsessed” video, Rush Hour’s Brett Ratner will once again direct Carey, having already made the “We Belong Together” and “Touch My Body” clips. The video is expected out soon.

 

“Obsessed” was produced by the duo of The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, who also produced the majority of Memoir according to Carey’s official site. “Seriously, this is one of my favorite songs ever. I love the whole album. I’m completely immersed in it. I can’t wait for you to hear it,” Carey previously wrote on her Twitter about “Obsessed,” adding that the song already has a remix all ready to go.

Mariah Carey will release her twelfth studio album, "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel," August 25 on Island Def Jam, the singer announced today (June 16). The debut single, "Obsessed," is co-written and produced by Carey, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart and has shipped to radio, while a music video directed by Brett Ratner is forthcoming.

 

Carey announced the title of her new album back in May via Twitter, writing, "Bcuz I Love U, I want u to be the first to know the title of my new album "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" Its very personal & dedicated to u." The singer followed up on June 9 with an excited Tweet about the first single: "Seriously, this is one of my favorite songs ever," she wrote. "I love the whole album. I’m completely immersed in it. I can’t wait for you to hear it." Since entering the studio earlier this year, Carey has been giving updates about the album with regularity to her 600,000-plus followers on the microblogging site.

 

Island Def Jam mogul Anotnio "L.A." Reid is credited as executive producer on "Memoirs," while Stewart and The-Dream produced the majority of the tracks. The album follows 2008’s "E=MC2," which sold 1,300,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan and spawned Carey’s 18th No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 ("Touch My Body"), as she surpassed Elvis Presley as the artist with the second-highest tally of No. 1 hits in the rock era.

It's as if we are getting ready to watch the new Whitney Houston Comeback movie with people jumping, crying, and screaming, "Welcome back Whitney!" Let's face it: America loves comebacks. Whitney Houston could deliver absolute musical crap and the media will still love it.

 

However, it doesn't sound like Whitney Houston is going to be releasing crap. Music industry insiders say that the most important aspect of Whitney Houston's comeback campaign is to remind people why they fell in love with Whitney Houston in the first place: her great voice, her irresistible ballads, and her fun dance songs. Her new album, which is rumored to be titled Undefeated, will be released on September 1.

2 #1 singles one of which stayed 14 weeks at #1 and the album became the biggest seller of 2005. Whitney won't do that. She's been gone for too long. And I like her I'm actually really excited to hear her new songs.

Personally i love all three "Celine Mariah and Whitney" I´ve loved Whitney since 1985 and if i am gonna compare these two "Mariah & Whitney.

Then i choose Whitney because she is more like Celine.

Both incredible belters of Powerhouse ballads while Mariah keeps it low and ends on wailing high notes...

Mariah Exacts Revenge on Eminem

Mariah Carey is finally getting back at Eminem. Her revenge for his ranting and raving about their alleged "affair" is a witty, biting new single called "Obsessed."

 

Good for Mariah, who's had to put up with Eminem's lunatic name calling for the last couple of years. Then, just to get publicity, Eminem took more swipes at her on his new CD in a song called "Bagpipes from Baghdad."

 

In the "song" – a term used loosely – the execrable Eminem calls Carey the "c word." (This is what your kids are spending millions on, folks. Wise up.) He not only attacks the singer but her husband, Nick Cannon, and long ago boyfriend Luis Miguel.

 

Mariah's comeback is funnier, catchier, and more likely to be a bigger hit. "Why are you obsessed with me?" she sings to one of the best hooks in her storied history. "You're delusional/you're confused/you're losing your mind," Mariah continues. "Lyin' that your sexin' me." Ouch!

 

And the winner is: Universal Music Group. Both performers record for them. And a feud is always good for business! "Obsessed," by the way, is the first single from Mariah's new album, due August 25th, to be called "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel."

I also like Obsessed better than just about anything on Mariah's last album. Touch My Body grew on me but it's a horrible song. Migrate should have been a single, as it's the only song on E=MC2 I actually think is good.
